The Influence of Fire and Deforestation on the Floral Symmetry and Fitness of Adenocalymma nodosun (Bignoniaceae)

Burnings and deforestation are severe disturbances to plants and may represent a stressful situation for plant growth, and they can also affect plant-pollinator interactions and the reproductive success of plants. In this study, we verified the variation in floral symmetry of Adenocalymma nodosum (Bignoniacea) in two areas, one post-fire and other after deforestation. We also verified the effects on plant-pollinator interactions and fruit set production. Results showed that A. nodosum flowers were more asymmetric in mowing areas than in fire areas. Asymmetrical flowers presented low nectar concentration and bee visitation rates. Although mowed environments produce fewer fruits and seeds than areas affected by fire, the change was not significant. Soil from the burnt area showed higher nutrient and organic matter concentration and less aluminum than that of mowed areas. Our results showed that A. nodosum flowers in the deforestation area are more asymmetric than those in the post-fire area. This result suggest that Cerrado plants may be less adapted to deforestation than to fire, since they have been facing fire events for thousand years in this biome. We suggest that the effects of environmental stress on the development and fitness of plants may provide an important breakthrough to the understanding of insect-plant interactions in Cerrado savanna, where burnings and deforestation are frequent anthropogenic effects

Psychological Exhaustion and Problematic Use of Drugs in The Nursing Team in A Hospital Environment

Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the relationship between problematic drug use and the occurrence of Burnout Syndrome among nursing professionals in a hospital environment. Methods: This is a study with a quantitative and exploratory approach. 416 professionals participated in the research. The data collection instrument was Sociodemographic and professional information; Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement  Screening Test; Alcohol Use DisordersIdentification Test - Consumption; Maslach Burnout Inventory. The level of significance (p value) was set at 0.05. Results: The consumption of tobacco and alcohol among workers was evidenced, being common to the practice of using alcohol in binge. There was a positive correlation between the use of alcohol and the occurrence of depersonalization and between the use of sedatives and depersonalization. Conclusion: It is essential that there are actions to minimize the occurrence of mental disorders in nursing workers.&nbsp

Juízo Moral Ecológico de Professores do Ensino Fundamental de Porto Velho

Entre os temas de grande preocupação da sociedade contemporânea estão as questões ecológicas. O Brasil tem importante papel na crescente discussão sobre o tema e na construção de uma legislação na área, haja vista a atual discussão do Código Florestal Brasileiro e a realização em 2012, da Rio + 20. Sendo a ecologia um Tema Transversal recomendado pelos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais – PCN’s., é preciso que seja desenvolvido através de projetos pedagógicos que levem os alunos a refletirem sobre o tema de forma global, considerando não apenas os aspectos da natureza, mas essenci-almente a harmonia: homem/natureza, na construção de uma sociedade sustentável. Neste trabalho, baseados na Teoria da Psicologia Moral, postulamos que para que tal se realize, é necessário que estes professores possuam um Juízo Moral Ecológico. Para tanto pesquisamos o juízo moral ecológico de 09 professores de uma escola pública do município de Porto Velho – RO, suas ações cotidianas nesta área, as atividades peda-gógicas sobre a ecologia propostas aos alunos e a ética que as permeia. Tivemos como base as teorias da Psicologia Moral de Piaget (1932/1994), Puig (1998) e La Taille (2009, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1998) e no campo do juízo moral ecológico as pesquisas de Lima (2010, 2009, 2005), Minin e Lima (2010) e Milani, Minin e Lima (2009). Os resultados apontam que os professores pesquisados, embora se interessem pelo tema da ecologia e o tenham adotado como componente curricular e prática pedagógica, não apresen-tam um juízo moral ecológico acerca do mesmo e não constroem justificativa pertinen-te a uma prática pedagógica transversal no tema meio ambiente, como postula os Pa-râmetros Curriculares Nacionais

Computer calculation for the apple ( Pirus malus) cooling process

[POR] Neste trabalho foi feita uma descrição numérica do processo de resfriamento da Pirus malus (maçã) em função dos seus parâmetros físicos e das condições de contorno, relacionando-os com a eficiência no processo de refrigeração. A fruta foi modelada numericamente usando o Método dos Elementos Finitos (FEM) de modo a permitir a análise da propagação tri-dimensional do calor durante o processo de resfriamento. Informações tais como o fluxo de calor, temperatura e gradientes calculados para cada elemento permitiram analisar detalhadamente os aspectos termodinâmicos envolvidos no processo em estudo. Valores calculados pela simulação e medidos em diversos experimentos de validação mostraram excelente acordo entre as temperaturas medida e calculadas (=0,94). Estudos estocásticos realizados permitiram testar a coerência do modelo desenvuelto gerando informações que podem ser usadas para orientar os procedimentos industriais de refrigeração das frutas. [ENG] We used the Finite Element Method (FEM) to simulate the cooling of the apple (Pirus malus) in order to understand the efficiency of this process. Details of the 3D heat transfer, as thermal gradients, heat flux and temperatures, have been obtained from the FEM model allowing to analyze the heat propagation inside the fruit during the cooling process. Validation tests showed very good agreement between model and experiments. Stocastics calculation allowed to test the model internal coherence showing that this type of simulation could be used to guide industrial procedures for cooling fruit

Literatura e memória como farol para o leitor: uma análise de Ainda estou aqui, de Marcelo Rubens Paiva

Dieser Artikel zielt darauf ab, eine Reflexion über die Wichtigkeit der Bedeutungseffekte (ISER, 1996, 1999) zu präsentieren, die Marcelo Rubens Paivas Meisterschaft im Umgang mit dem Potenzial der Sprache in seinem autobiografischen Roman Ainda estou aqui (2015) hervorbringt. Genauer gesagt wollen wir beobachten, wie Paiva durch die Verwendung eines hybriden literarischen Diskurses, geleitet von Figurativen, Emotionen und Metaphern, aber auch durch die Verflechtung von Dokumenten, Zeugnissen und anderen Textgattungen, seine Erzählung an die Leser bringt und dabei kritische Perspektiven auf die Geschichte fördert. Aufbauend auf dem theoretischen Beitrag der Rezeptionsästhetik (JAUSS, 1994; ISER, 1996, 1999) wird die Hypothese aufgestellt, dass sein Werk den zeitgenössischen Leser konfrontiert und eine Mitteilbarkeit sicherstellt.This article aims to present a reflection on the importance of meaning effects (ISER, 1996, 1999) that Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s mastery produces in the management of the potentialities of language in his autobiographical novel Ainda estou aqui (2015). We intend, more specifically, to observe how Paiva, by using hybrid literary discourses, guided by figurative language, by emotions and metaphors, but also by interweaving documents, testimonies, among other textual genres, can bring his narrative closer to readers, encouraging critical reviews of history. Based on the theoretical framework of Aesthetic of Reception (JAUSS, 1994; ISER, 1996, 1999), we hypothesize that his work confronts the contemporary reader, ensuring communicability.Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar una reflexión sobre la importancia de los efectos de sentido (ISER, 1996, 1999), que produce la maestría de Marcelo Rubens Paiva en el manejo de las potencialidades del lenguaje en su novela autobiográfica Todavía estoy aquí (2015). Más específicamente, pretendemos observar cómo Paiva, a través del uso de un discurso literario híbrido, guiado por lo figurativo, las emociones y las metáforas, pero también por el entrecruzamiento de documentos, testimonios, entre otros géneros textuales, logra acercar su narrativa a la lector, fomentando la revisión crítica de la Historia. Oral lactate intensifies insulin toxicity during severe insulin-induced hypoglycemia in mice

We investigated whether oral lactate could prevent seizures and deaths in mice with severe hypoglycemia induced by a high dose of insulin. For this purpose, mice were fasted for 15 h and then given an intraperitoneal injection of regular insulin (5.0 U/kg or 10.0 U/kg). Immediately after insulin injection, the mice received an oral dose of saline (control), glucose (5.5 mmol/kg), or lactate (18.0 mmol/kg). Glucose and lactate levels were measured in the blood and brain before and after the seizures began. Glucose and lactate delayed (p < 0.05) the onset of seizures associated with severe insulin-induced hypoglycemia. Elevated (p < 0.05) brain levels of lactate were associated with an absence of seizures in mice that received glucose or lactate, suggesting that lactate could prevent convulsions associated with severe insulin-induced hypoglycemia. However, the same oral dose of lactate that delayed the onset of convulsions also increased the mortality rate. In contrast, diazepam (3.0 mg/kg) prevented seizures and markedly decreased the frequency of death during severe insulin-induced hypoglycemia. The results demonstrated that in contrast to oral glucose, oral lactate intensifies insulin toxicity

A epidemiologia da COVID-19 na definição de políticas públicas à luz da Teoria Sociocultural e Histórica de Vygotsky/ The epidemiology of COVID-19 in the definition of public policies in the light of Vygotsky's Sociocultural and Historical Theory

O desenvolvimento deste estudo parte do pressuposto da reflexão do avanço epidemiológico da COVID-19 fundamentada na Teoria Sociocultural e Histórica de Vygotsky, considerando as cinco ideias centrais que compõem seus postulados. A partir destes postulados, propõe-se como objetivo a elaboração de um artigo de reflexão sobre a relevância da epidemiologia da COVID-19 na definição de políticas públicas à luz do comportamento humano segundo a teoria vygotskiana. Foi realizado um estudo de reflexão o qual se fundamentou na Teoria Sociocultural e Histórica de Vygotsky e o comportamento em saúde frente à pandemia do novo Coronavírus - SARS-Cov2, causador da COVID-19, e o avanço epidemiológico da doença. Buscou-se discutir estudos no campo da epidemiologia que contemplassem a temática do avanço da COVID-19 e suas repercussões. A mudança de comportamento para o controle do avanço da doença e adoção das medidas de precaução devem resgatar a teoria vygostkyana de que o ser humano deve ser afetado pelo meio no qual está inserido no sentido de transformá-lo.

Estabilidade a longo prazo do tratamento da mordida aberta anterior na dentadura mista: relato de caso clínico

Apresentou-se um relato de caso clínico de mordida aberta anterior, tratada em dentadura mista, demonstrando uma das possíveis formas de tratamento, capaz de interferir no crescimento e redirecionar seus vetores. Os protocolos ortodônticos e ortopédicos utilizados foram a expansão lenta da maxila, utilizando grade palatina soldada a um expansor bihélice, com tração alta na mandíbula, num período diário de 16 horas. Oito anos de estabilidade foram alcançados, explicados pelo fato de o tratamento ter sido conduzido no momento oportuno do desenvolvimento, o que estabeleceu equilíbrio entre os músculos peribucais, em conjunto com o período final do crescimento. A combinação do tratamento ortodôntico e ortopédico foi necessária para se evitar a necessidade de tratamento cirúrgico.A clinical case with anterior open-bite, treated in the mixed dentition, is presented. This approach demonstrates one of the possible approaches of treatment, which is capable of interfering with growth and redirecting its vectors. Orthodontic and orthopedic methods were used, consisting of slow maxillary expansion, through a fixed palatal crib soldered in a bi-helix appliance, and high-pull traction on the mandible for 16 hours a day. After eight years of follow-up, stable outcomes were accomplished. These results may be explained by the fact that treatments were performed at the appropriate period of development, thus establishing perioral muscular equilibrium, matching the final period of facial growth. The combination of orthodontic and orthopedic treatments was necessary to prevent the need of further orthognathic surgery treatment
