The excitatory action of GABA is considered to be a hallmark of the developing nervous system. However, in immature brain slices, excitatory GABA actions may be secondary to neuronal injury during slice preparation. Here, we explored GABA actions in the rodent intact hippocampal preparations and at different depths of hippocampal slices during the early postnatal period (post-natal days [P] 1- 7). We found that in the intact hippocampus at P1-3: (i) GABA exerts depolarizing action as seen in cell-attached single GABA(A) channel recordings; (ii) GABA(A) receptor (GABA(A)-R) agonist isoguvacine and synaptic activation of the GABA(A)- Rs increase the frequency of multiple unit activity (MUA) and the frequency of the network-driven Giant Depolarizing Potentials (GDPs); and that (iii) NKCC1 antagonist bumetanide suppresses GDPs and the excitatory actions of isoguvacine. In the hippocampal slices at P2-5, isoguvacine and synaptic activation of GABA(A)- Rs evoked excitatory responses at all slice depths, including surface and core. Thus, GABA exerts excitatory actions in the intact hippocampus (P1-3) and at all depths of hippocampal slices (P2-5). Therefore, the excitatory actions of GABA in hippocampal slices during the first postnatal days are not due to neuronal injury during slice preparation, and the trauma-related excitatory GABA actions at the slice surface are a fundamentally different phenomenon observed during the second postnatal week. © 2013 Valeeva, Valiullina and Khazipov

A complex study of the functional state of the sympathoadrenal system and adrenal cortex in 10-15-year-old children of both sexes was carried out using the indices of daily excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline, 17-ketosteroids, and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. A synchronism in the functional activity of the mediator component of the sympathoadrenal system as well as of the androgenic and glucocorticoid functions of the adrenal cortex was observed with age and during pubertal development of children. At the same time, heterochronic maturation was observed in the sex groups: in girls at the age of 10 and 12 years and in boys at the age of 14-15 years. The changes of different direction and intensity in the excretion of the studied hormones and hormonal metabolites were observed in the sex and age groups. A sharp increase in the daily excretion of glucocorticoid metabolites accompanied by a considerable decrease in the age index of noradrenaline secretion was observed in 14-and 15-year-old boys from beginning to end of school year; in addition, an increase in the daily excretion of sex hormones was observed at the age of 15 years. In girls, these indices varied within the age range, which points to a more sophisticated neuroendocrine control of physiological functions in girls during puberty. © 2008 MAIK Nauka

© 2018, Advanced Scientific Research. All rights reserved. Based on the data on the volume of food consumption data according to the results of the actual nutrition study among the adolescents at the age of 15-17 they calculated the intake of chemical contaminants with local food products and food raw materials. They determined the main food products for adolescents, where chemical contaminants occur most frequently: fruits and vegetables, meat, grain, fish, drinks and milk. They determined the systems most susceptible to the total nonspecific effects at 95%: circulatory, cardiovascular, central nervous and reproductive systems. By the influence of imported products on functional systems they revealed circulatory system and the cardiovascular system. With combined intake of pollutants by food intake, the total hazard index for non-carcinogenic effect development by domestic products (HI) made 9.36 (95%), for imported products HI made 3.1 (95%)

Pregnancy Outcomes in Women with Type 1 Diabetes Depending on the Different Modes of Insulin Therapy

© 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York. The aim of the study was to evaluate the features of the effect of different modes of insulin therapy on pregnancy outcomes in women with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) with different levels of albuminuria. The study involved 155 women with T1DM during pregnancy, using various modes of insulin, and 42 infants born to women with T1DM. In order to identify a possible relationship between the level of proinflammatory cytokines and growth factors in pregnant women with T1DM and terms of delivery, we measured the daily urinary excretion of IL-1β, MCP-1, and TGF-β1 in 21 women at different trimesters of pregnancy. The use of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) in pregnant women with T1DM allows to prolong the pregnancy for 2–4 weeks as compared to the timing of delivery of pregnant women with T1DM receiving multiple subcutaneous injections of insulin (MPII). Pregnant women with MPII in 100% cases of the presence of microalbuminuria and proteinuria had premature delivery. Elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and MCP-1) and TGF-β1 may possibly serve as a predictor of pre-term delivery in pregnant women with diabetes type 1, starting with the early stages of pregnancy. The use of insulin by CSII in pregnant women with T1DM reduces the percentage of pre-term deliveries, regardless of the stage of diabetic nephropathy. It improves the condition of infants born at term in women with T1DM using a therapy with insulin pumps compared to that with MPII such as less common manifestation of diabetic fetopathy as macrosomia and hypoglycemia at birth, reducing the need for resuscitation in newborns

First principles study of point defects in titanium oxycarbide

    Get PDF
We have performed first principles density functional theory calculations to study the formation energy of point defects in TiC, TiO and TiCO compounds. The formation energy of isolated vacancies were obtained for different equilibrium conditions. For binary compounds, we have also calculated the formation energy of antisite defects. It was found that the defect formation energies strongly depend on the chemical environment. Our results show that C vacancies are easily formed in TiC and TiCO. For the TiO compound, Ti vacancies are highly probable to occur and O vacancies are also easily formed under titanium rich atmosphere.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) – Programa Operacional “Ciência , Tecnologia, Inovação” – CONC-REEQ/443/EEI/2005, POCTI/CTM/69362/200

The association study of antioxidant status and antioxidant genes polymorphisms in patients with ischemic heart disease in the Republic of Tatarstan

    Get PDF
Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a multifactorial disease caused by the interplay of environmental risk factors with multiple predisposing genes. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the role of genetic polymorphism, oxidative stress and antioxidant status in IHD patients. IHD patients are characterized by a change of the blood serum's antioxidant status, which is expressed in significant increases/decreases of the total antioxidant activity, lipid hydroperoxides and ceruloplasmin indicators in comparison with normal values and also in significant increases of the malondialdehyde for the patients with acute myocardial infarction. This study also showed that the level of some of the examined antioxidant system indicators depends on polymorphism of the genes, which encode the enzymatic antioxidant system pool (genes of catalase, extracellular and mitochondrial superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase). © IDOSI Publications, 2013
