Neutral perfect fluids of Majumdar-type in general relativity
We consider the extension of the Majumdar-type class of static solutions for
the Einstein-Maxwell equations, proposed by Ida to include charged perfect
fluid sources. We impose the equation of state and discuss
spherically symmetric solutions for the linear potential equation satisfied by
the metric. In this particular case the fluid charge density vanishes and we
locate the arising neutral perfect fluid in the intermediate region defined by
two thin shells with respective charges and . With its innermost flat
and external (Schwarzschild) asymptotically flat spacetime regions, the
resultant condenser-like geometries resemble solutions discussed by Cohen and
Cohen in a different context. We explore this relationship and point out an
exotic gravitational property of our neutral perfect fluid. We mention possible
continuations of this study to embrace non-spherically symmetric situations and
higher dimensional spacetimes.Comment: 9 page
Neutron scattering and superconducting order parameter in YBa2Cu3O7
We discuss the origin of the neutron scattering peak at 41 meV observed in
YBaCuO below . The peak may occur due to spin-flip electron
excitations across the superconducting gap which are enhanced by the
antiferromagnetic interaction between Cu spins. In this picture, the experiment
is most naturally explained if the superconducting order parameter has -wave
symmetry and opposite signs in the bonding and antibonding electron bands
formed within a CuO bilayer.Comment: In this version, only few minor corrections and the update of

Amsterdam Museum Linked Open Data
In this document we describe the Amsterdam Museum Linked Open Data set. The dataset is a five-star Linked Data representation and comprises the entire collection of the Amsterdam Museum consisting of more than 70,000 object descriptions. Furthermore, the institution's thesaurus and person authority files used in the object metadata are included in the Linked Data set. The data is mapped to the Europeana Data Model, utilizing Dublin Core, SKOS, RDA-group2 elements and the OAI-ORE model to represent the museum data. Vocabulary concepts are mapped to GeoNames and DBpedia. The two main contributions of this dataset are the inclusion of internal vocabularies and the fact that the complexity of the original dataset is retained
The clustering instability of inertial particles spatial distribution in turbulent flows
A theory of clustering of inertial particles advected by a turbulent velocity
field caused by an instability of their spatial distribution is suggested. The
reason for the clustering instability is a combined effect of the particles
inertia and a finite correlation time of the velocity field. The crucial
parameter for the clustering instability is a size of the particles. The
critical size is estimated for a strong clustering (with a finite fraction of
particles in clusters) associated with the growth of the mean absolute value of
the particles number density and for a weak clustering associated with the
growth of the second and higher moments. A new concept of compressibility of
the turbulent diffusion tensor caused by a finite correlation time of an
incompressible velocity field is introduced. In this model of the velocity
field, the field of Lagrangian trajectories is not divergence-free. A mechanism
of saturation of the clustering instability associated with the particles
collisions in the clusters is suggested. Applications of the analyzed effects
to the dynamics of droplets in the turbulent atmosphere are discussed. An
estimated nonlinear level of the saturation of the droplets number density in
clouds exceeds by the orders of magnitude their mean number density. The
critical size of cloud droplets required for clusters formation is more than

Central-West Siberian-breeding Bar-tailed Godwits (<i>Limosa lapponica</i>) segregate in two morphologically distinct flyway populations
Long-distance migratory species often include multiple breeding populations, with distinct migration routes, wintering areas and annual-cycle timing. Detailed knowledge on population structure and migratory connectivity provides the basis for studies on the evolution of migration strategies and for species conservation. Currently, five subspecies of Bar-tailed Godwits Limosa lapponica have been described. However, with two apparently separate breeding and wintering areas, the taxonomic status of the subspecies L. l. taymyrensis remains unclear. Here we compare taymyrensis Bar-tailed Godwits wintering in the Middle East and West Africa, respectively, with respect to migration behaviour, breeding area, morphology and population genetic differentation in mitochondrial DNA. By tracking 52 individuals from wintering and staging areas over multiple years, we show that Bar-tailed Godwits wintering in the Middle East bred on the northern West-Siberian Plain (n = 19), while birds from West Africa bred further east, mostly on the Taimyr Peninsula (n = 12). The two groups differed significantly in body size and shape, and also in the timing of both northward and southward migrations. However, they were not genetically differentiated, indicating that the phenotypic (i.e. geographical, morphological and phenological) differences arose either very recently or without current reproductive isolation. We conclude that the taymyrensis taxon consists of two distinct populations with mostly non-overlapping flyways, which warrant treatment as separate taxonomic units. We propose to distinguish a more narrowly defined taymyrensis subspecies (i.e. the Bar-tailed Godwits wintering in West Africa and breeding on Taimyr), from a new subspecies (i.e. the birds wintering in the Middle East and breeding on the northern West-Siberian Plain)
Not All Arms of IgM Are Equal: Following Hinge-Directed Cleavage by Online Native SEC-Orbitrap-Based CDMS
Immunoglobulins M (IgM) are key natural antibodies produced initially in humoral immune response. Due to their large molecular weights and extensive glycosylation loads, IgMs represent a challenging target for conventional mass analysis. Charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) may provide a unique approach to tackle heterogeneous IgM assemblies, although this technique can be quite laborious and technically challenging. Here, we describe the use of online size exclusion chromatography (SEC) to automate buffer exchange and sample introduction, and demonstrate its adaptability with Orbitrap-based CDMS. We discuss optimal experimental parameters for online SEC-CDMS experiments, including ion activation, choice of column, and resolution. Using this approach, CDMS histograms containing hundreds of individual ion signals can be obtained in as little as 5 min from single injections of <1 Îźg of sample. To demonstrate the unique utility of online SEC-CDMS, we performed real-time kinetic monitoring of pentameric IgM digestion by the protease IgMBRAZOR, which cleaves specifically in the hinge region of IgM. Several digestion intermediates corresponding to processive losses of F(abâ)2 subunits could be mass-resolved and identified by SEC-CDMS. Interestingly, we find that for the J-chain linked IgM pentamer, cleavage of one of the F(abâ)2 subunits is much slower than the other four F(abâ)2 subunits, which we attribute to the symmetry-breaking interactions of the J-chain within the pentameric IgM structure. The online SEC-CDMS methodologies described here open new avenues into the higher throughput automated analysis of heterogeneous, high-mass protein assemblies by CDMS
MultimediaN E-Culture demonstrator
The main objective of the MultimediaN E-Culture project is to demonstrate how novel semantic-web and presentation technologies can be deployed to provide better indexing and search support within large virtual collections of cultural-heritage resources. The architecture is fully based on open web standards, in particular XML, SVG, RDF/OWL and SPARQL. One basic hypothesis underlying this work is that the use of explicit background knowledge in the form of ontologies/vocabularies/thesauri is in particular useful in information retrieval in knowledge-rich domains
Dust Lifting Through Surface Albedo Changes at Jezero Crater, Mars
We identify temporal variations in surface albedo at Jezero crater using first-of-their-kind high-cadence in-situ measurements of reflected shortwave radiation during the first 350 sols of the Mars 2020 mission. Simultaneous Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA) measurements of pressure, radiative fluxes, winds, and sky brightness indicate that these albedo changes are caused by dust devils under typical conditions and by a dust storm at Ls âź 155°. The 17% decrease in albedo caused by the dust storm is one order of magnitude larger than the most apparent changes caused during quiescent periods by dust devils. Spectral reflectance measurements from Mastcam-Z images before and after the storm indicate that the decrease in albedo is mainly caused by dust removal. The occurrence of albedo changes is affected by the intensity and proximity of the convective vortex, and the availability and mobility of small particles at the surface. The probability of observing an albedo change increases with the magnitude of the pressure drop (ÎP): changes were detected in 3.5%, 43%, and 100% of the dust devils with ÎP 2.5 Pa and ÎP > 4.5 Pa, respectively. Albedo changes were associated with peak wind speeds above 15 m¡sâ1. We discuss dust removal estimates, the observed surface temperature changes coincident with albedo changes, and implications for solar-powered missions. Influence of Anodic Conditions on Self-ordered Growth of Highly Aligned Titanium Oxide Nanopores
Self-aligned nanoporous TiO2templates synthesized via dc current electrochemical anodization have been carefully analyzed. The influence of environmental temperature during the anodization, ranging from 2 °C to ambient, on the structure and morphology of the nanoporous oxide formation has been investigated, as well as that of the HF electrolyte chemical composition, its concentration and their mixtures with other acids employed for the anodization. Arrays of self-assembled titania nanopores with inner pores diameter ranging between 50 and 100 nm, wall thickness around 20â60 nm and 300 nm in length, are grown in amorphous phase, vertical to the Ti substrate, parallel aligned to each other and uniformly disordering distributed over all the sample surface. Additional remarks about the photoluminiscence properties of the titania nanoporous templates and the magnetic behavior of the Ni filled nanoporous semiconductor Ti oxide template are also included
