Symmetric achromatic low-beta collider interaction region design concept

We present a new symmetry-based concept for an achromatic low-beta collider interaction region design. A specially-designed symmetric Chromaticity Compensation Block (CCB) induces an angle spread in the passing beam such that it cancels the chromatic kick of the final focusing quadrupoles. Two such CCBs placed symmetrically around an interaction point allow simultaneous compensation of the 1st-order chromaticities and chromatic beam smear at the IP without inducing significant 2nd-order aberrations to the particle trajectory. We first develop an analytic description of this approach and explicitly formulate 2nd-order aberration compensation conditions at the interaction point. The concept is next applied to develop an interaction region design for the ion collider ring of an electron-ion collider. We numerically evaluate performance of the design in terms of momentum acceptance and dynamic aperture. The advantages of the new concept are illustrated by comparing it to the conventional distributed-sextupole chromaticity compensation scheme.Comment: 12 pages, 17 figures, to be submitted to Phys. Anomalous electronic Raman scattering in Na_xCoO_2 H_2O

    Get PDF
Raman scattering experiments on Na_{x}CoO_2 yH_2O single crystals show a broad electronic continuum with a pronounced peak around 100 cm-1 and a cutoff at approximately 560 cm-1over a wide range of doping levels. The electronic Raman spectra in superconducting and non-superconducting samples are similar at room temperature, but evolve in markedly different ways with decreasing temperature. For superconducting samples, the low-energy spectral weight is depleted upon cooling below T* sim 150K, indicating a opening of a pseudogap that is not present in non-superconducting materials. Weak additional phonon modes observed below T* suggest that the pseudogap is associated with charge ordering.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, for further information see www.peter-lemmens.d

NbS3_{3}: A unique quasi one-dimensional conductor with three charge density wave transitions

Through transport, compositional and structural studies, we review the features of the charge-density wave (CDW) conductor of NbS3_{3} (phase II). We highlight three central results: 1) In addition to the previously reported CDW transitions at TP1T_{P1} = 360\,K and TP2T_{P2} = 150\,K, another CDW transition occurs at a much higher temperature TP0T_{P0} = 620-650\,K; evidence for the non-linear conductivity of this CDW is presented. 2) We show that CDW associated with the TP2T_{P2} - transition arises from S vacancies acting as donors. Such a CDW transition has not been observed before. 3) We show exceptional coherence of the TP1T_{P1}-CDW at room-temperature. Additionally, we report on the effects of uniaxial strain on the CDW transition temperatures and transport.Comment: 16 pages, 18 figure

Algebraic Geometry Approach to the Bethe Equation for Hofstadter Type Models

We study the diagonalization problem of certain Hofstadter-type models through the algebraic Bethe ansatz equation by the algebraic geometry method. When the spectral variables lie on a rational curve, we obtain the complete and explicit solutions for models with the rational magnetic flux, and discuss the Bethe equation of their thermodynamic flux limit. The algebraic geometry properties of the Bethe equation on high genus algebraic curves are investigated in cooperationComment: 28 pages, Latex ; Some improvement of presentations, Revised version with minor changes for journal publicatio

Updated Report Acceleration of Polarized Protons to 120-150 GeV/c at Fermilab

The SPIN@FERMI collaboration has updated its 1991-95 Reports on the acceleration of polarized protons in Fermilab's Main Injector, which was commissioned by Fermilab. This Updated Report summarizes some updated Physics Goals for a 120-150 GeV/c polarized proton beam. It also contains an updated discussion of the Modifications and Hardware needed for a polarized beam in the Main Injector, along with an updated Schedule and Budget.Comment: 30 pages, 12 figure

Weighted ergodic theorems for Banach-Kantorovich lattice Lp(^,μ^)L_{p}(\hat{\nabla},\hat{\mu})

In the present paper we prove weighted ergodic theorems and multiparameter weighted ergodic theorems for positive contractions acting on Lp(^,μ^)L_p(\hat{\nabla},\hat{\mu}). Our main tool is the use of methods of measurable bundles of Banach-Kantorovich lattices.Comment: 11 page

Transport properties of ferromagnet/d-wave superconductor/ferromagnet double junctions

We investigate transport properties of a trilayer made of a d-wave superconductor connected to two ferromagnetic electrodes. Using Keldysh formalism we show that crossed Andreev reflection and elastic cotunneling exist also with d-wave superconductors. Their properties are controlled by the existence of zero energy states due to the anisotropy of the d-wave pair potential.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, revised versio
