Background and purpose: Patients education should be done according to assessment and determination of their educational needs and their gender. The purpose of this study was to determine and compare educational needs from the view point of men and women with coronary artery bypass at discharge time.Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive-comparative study. Questionnaire was used to determine the educational needs of 100 men and 100 women who had undergone CABG for the first time in six domains (activity, medication, diet, treatment & complication, enhancing quality of life and skin care) and then compared the results. Results: The findings showed that the immediate educational needs of patients were information ٌ about their activity while the least important mensُ need was information about improving quality of life and for women it was information about diet. Findings showed that there was a significant difference ٌ between mensُ and womensُ educational needs except medication (P<0.0001).Conclusion: Accordings to the results of this research there was a significant difference between ٌ mensُ and womensُ educational needs, therefore attention should be paid to the specific educational requirements of different genders. ٌSo it is highly recommended that the educational needs of men and women are determined and adequate and proper education should be given to them at the time of discharge
