Some Notes on the Pantun Storytelling of the Baduy Minority Group Its Written and Audiovisual Documentation

Baduy pantun stories are part of the larger Sundanese oral tradition of pantun storytelling in west Java. The stories recount the deeds of the nobility of such old Sundanese kingdoms as Pajajaran and Galuh. Although the Baduy still recite the pantun stories in their rituals, in the larger cities to the east of the Baduy village Kanékés pantun recitation almost disappeared. On the basis of short periods of fieldwork in and around Kanékés village between 1976 and 2014, in this essay I shall discuss Baduy pantun storytelling. I shall summarize earlier major publications and analyse some performance aspects of two Baduy pantun stories which I recorded. Although I do not concentrate on the text, I do discuss a few cultural issues arising from the texts. Baduy oral literature also includes children\u27s and women\u27s songs, as well as fables and myths of origin (dongéng) which do not involve music. These will not be discussed here

A statistical treatment of the loss of stiffness during cyclic loading for short fiber reinforced injection molded composites

Injection molded short fiber reinforced composites (SFRC) have different local fiber orientation distribution (FOD) at every point. SN curves of short fiber reinforced composites are known to depend on the fiber orientation distribution. Such materials also suffer from continuous loss of stiffness during cyclic loading. It is not known whether the loss of stiffness is different for SFRC with different FOD. A statistical analysis of the loss of stiffness curves is presented in this paper. Tension-tension fatigue experiments are performed and loss of stiffness is collected for every data point in the SN curve. A systematic method for comparing the loss of stiffness is developed. It is concluded that the difference in loss of stiffness curves for coupons of SFRC with different FOD is not statistically significant. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Full-field stress analysis by holographic phase-stepping implementation of the photoelastic-coating method

In this paper, we describe a system for polariscopic and holographic phase-shifting implementation of the photoelastic-coating method for a full-field stress analysis. The easiest way to build the combined system is to employ a laser light source. However, coherent illumination introduces a signal-dependent speckle noise which worsens the accurate phase estimation and unwrapping. To answer the question of how it affects the phase retrieval of isochromatics, isoclinics and isopachics, we modeled in the present paper the phase-shifting photoelastic measurement in the presence of speckle noise through the calculation of the complex amplitudes in a Mach-Zender interferometer combined with a circular polariscope and made denoising of simulated and experimental fringe patterns. The latter were recorded at pure tensile load for PhotoStress (R)-coated samples with a mechanical stress concentrator

Global energy and environmental security in the current global economic crisis

This article considers the problems of energy sector environmental impact. Further reduction of the global energy sector impact on the global environment can be achieved by two methods. The first, short-term one implies the increase in energy efficiency. In the next 15—20 years, the increase in the efficiency should become a priority of the energy policy of all states. The second, long-term method is based on the gradual expansion of the scope of re-newable energy application. This method is aimed at avoiding further economic and energy crises. At the same time, it has an important environmental aspect. The authors claim that the new field of global energy sector development should be less costly
