Zeeman-type dragging in the Kerr--Newman and NUT spacetimes
In this communication we discuss two distinct Zeeman-type gravitomagnetic
effects deserving attention since they can be easily characterized in their
exact form, not via approximation procedures. Some observations are also made
on gravitoelectric effects.Comment: 5 pages, a talk delivered at the 11th Marcel Grossmann Meeting (2006
IARS SegNet: Interpretable Attention Residual Skip connection SegNet for melanoma segmentation
Skin lesion segmentation plays a crucial role in the computer-aided diagnosis
of melanoma. Deep Learning models have shown promise in accurately segmenting
skin lesions, but their widespread adoption in real-life clinical settings is
hindered by their inherent black-box nature. In domains as critical as
healthcare, interpretability is not merely a feature but a fundamental
requirement for model adoption. This paper proposes IARS SegNet an advanced
segmentation framework built upon the SegNet baseline model. Our approach
incorporates three critical components: Skip connections, residual
convolutions, and a global attention mechanism onto the baseline Segnet
architecture. These elements play a pivotal role in accentuating the
significance of clinically relevant regions, particularly the contours of skin
lesions. The inclusion of skip connections enhances the model's capacity to
learn intricate contour details, while the use of residual convolutions allows
for the construction of a deeper model while preserving essential image
features. The global attention mechanism further contributes by extracting
refined feature maps from each convolutional and deconvolutional block, thereby
elevating the model's interpretability. This enhancement highlights critical
regions, fosters better understanding, and leads to more accurate skin lesion
segmentation for melanoma diagnosis.Comment: Submitted to the journal: Computers in Biology and Medicin
A possible explanation why the Theta+ is seen in some experiments and not in others
To understand the whole set of positive and null data on the
Theta+(1530)-production, we suggest the hypothesis that multiquark hadrons are
mainly generated from many-quark states, which emerge either as short-term
hadron fluctuations, or as hadron remnants in hard processes. This approach
allows us to describe both non-observation of the Theta+ in current null
experiments and peculiar features of its production in positive experiments.
Further, we are able to propose new experiments that might be decisive for the
problem of the Theta+ existence. Distributions of the Theta+ in such
experiments can give important information both on higher Fock components of
conventional hadrons and about structure and hadronization properties of hadron
remnants produced in hard processes. We also explain that description of
multiquark hadrons may require a modified form of the constituent quark model,
with quark masses and couplings being intermediate between their values for the
familiar constituent quarks and the current ones.Comment: 18 pages. Some changes in the text; experimental suggestions

Delocalization to self-trapping transition of a Bose fluid confined in a double well potential. An analysis via one- and two-body correlation properties
We revisit the coherent or delocalized to self-trapping transition in an
interacting bosonic quantum fluid confined in a double well potential, in the
context of full quantum calculations. We show that an -particle Bose-Hubbard
fluid reaches an stationary state through the two-body interactions. These
stationary states are either delocalized or self-trapped in one of the wells,
the former appearing as coherent oscillations in the mean-field approximation.
By studying one- and two-body properties in the energy eigenstates and in a set
of coherent states, we show that the delocalized to self-trapped transition
occurs as a function of the energy of the fluid, provided the interparticle
interaction is above a critical or threshold value. We argue that this is a
type of symmetry-breaking continuous phase transition.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figure
Resonances, and mechanisms of Theta-production
After explaining necessity of exotic hadrons, we discuss mechanisms which
could determine production of the exotic Theta-baryon. A possible important
role of resonances (producing the Theta in real or virtual decays) is
emphasized for various processes. Several experimental directions for studies
of such resonances, and the Theta itself, are suggested. We briefly discuss
also recent negative results on the Theta-baryon.Comment: 6 page
RELATIONAL NATION The Appreciation of Characters in Rizal’s Noli me tángere in Two Philippine Public High Schools
In implementing the Rizal Law, the Department of Education’s K-12 Curriculum Guide emphasizes the study of characters in Rizal’s novels as a means to cultivate patriotism among the youth. In this light, this paper presents ethnographically how students from two public high schools in Rizal Province relate with characters in Noli me tángere. In the classroom, these characters have developed a status akin to “real” historical beings. Concomitantly, students use tropes that connect these characters to their own lives, relationships, and understandings of the social world. The students’ relationships elicit moral standards for imagining the nation and embodying their own patriotism
K*(892)0 Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV
Preliminary results on the K*(892)0 -> pi + K production using the
mixed-event technique are presented. The measurements are performed at
mid-rapidity by the STAR detector in sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV Au-Au collisions at
RHIC. The K*0 to negative hadron, kaon and phi ratios are obtained and compared
to the measurements in e+e-, pp and pbarp at various energies.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, proceedings of Strange Quarks in Matter
