    Methods of coprecipitation (citrate method, oxalate method) and sol-gel precipitation (citrate-gel method) have been applied to prepare tailor-made precursors for massive high temperature superconductor (HTSC) materials of high homogeneity and with improved levitation properties. Precursors suited for the preparation of massive HTSC materials by the flame-melt process were obtained in two forms: (1) as reactive sinter mixture (Y_2O_3 + YBa_2Cu_3O_7_-_x, Y_2O_3 + BaCuO_2 + CuO, Y_2BaCuO_5 + BaCuO_2 + CuO, Y_2Cu_2O_5 + CuO) prepared by the oxalate method or by an improved standard method, and (2) as precursor flakes (YBa_2Cu_3O_7_-_x, decomposition product) prepared by the low temperature oxyhydrogen technique.
