The structure and composition of (18-crown-6)\ub7NH4F\ub73H2O hydrate were determined from single crystal XRD data at 173 K. The compound is monoclinic P21/n with unit cell parameters a = 11.913(1) \uc5, b = 7.928(1) \uc5, c = 20.679(3) \uc5; \u3b2 = 105.14(1)\ub0. The ammonium cation is included in the crown-ether and forms three hydrogen bonds to oxygen atoms. The water molecules and the fluorine ions connected by hydrogen bonds form chains consisting of square faces and running parallel to the b axis of the crystal.NRC publication: Ye

Reaction of [Pt(CH3)2(COD)] (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) with Ph2PCCCCPPh2 led to a mixture of [{Pt(CH3)2}2(-Ph2PC4PPh2)2] (1) and [{Pt(CH3)2}3(-Ph2PC4PPh2)3] (2). Reaction of [PtCl2(COD)] with Ph2PCCCCPPh2 led to a mixture of the thermally unstable compounds [{PtCl2}2(-Ph2PC4PPh2)2] (3) and [{PtCl2}3(-Ph2PC4PPh2)3] (4) which transform into [{PtMe2}2{-C8(PPh2)4}] (5) and [{PtMe2}3{3-C12(PPh2)6}] (6) containing 8-membered diene-diyne and 12-membered triene-triyne rings, respectively. Compound 2 can be converted to [{PtMe2}3{C12(PPh2)6}] (7) by heating with CuCl at 80 C, while 1 can be heated without significant cycloaddition.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye

The study of solid p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene and its compounds with a variety of techniques has provided a good understanding of the versatility of this host molecule, how to induce a number of distinct host-guest motifs, its molecular recognition properties, the complex phase relationships and unique properties such as gas adsorption without having obvious channels.NRC publication: Ye

Two tetracobalt cluster complexes: Preparation and molecular structures of Co(4)(mu-dppm)(2)(mu-CO)(3)(CO)(5) and CO(4)(mu-CO)(3)(CO)(6)(eta-C(6)H(6))

The crystal and molecular structures of the title complexes (1) and (2) are described. Each contains a Co4 tetrahedron, one face of which is edge-bridged by three μ-CO ligands. In (1), a pair of mutually orthogonal Co-Co bonds are bridged by the two dppm (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) ligands. The structure of the benzene complex was determined at 153 and 300 K; as with other arene-Co4 clusters, the η6-benzene ligand sits on the apical (i.e. non-CO-bridged) Co atom.Michael I.
