Different grape varieties in relation with leaf thickness were selected. A positive correlation was observed between biochemical changes in grape berries and yield and quality of grapes. Among the different biochemical parameters thin leaf varieties found highest reducing sugar in Maro Seedless followed by E12/2 (BB-CLB) where as the least reducing sugar was recorded in Madhu Angur. Highest protein content was recorded in Maro Seedless and least amount protein content was recorded in Kishmish, Rozavis. The phenol content in thin leaf varieties were varied significantly and highest phenol was recorded in Kishmish, Rozavis and least total phenolic recorded in Maro Seedless grapes while the highest starch content in the varieties in Maro Seedless followed by E 12/2 (BB-CLB) variety, However the Tas-A-Ganesh exhibited lower amount (2.1 mg/g) of starch. The significant differences were recorded to acidity and total soluble solids in relation to leaf thickness in different varieties. It was also observed that with increase in reducing sugar of berries and the total soluble solids in berries increased but total acidity was decreased. The highest TSS and maximum reducing sugar was recorded in variety Pearl of Csaba and Least TSS in E5-4 variety. TSS in the berries positively correlated with reducing sugar while negatively correlated with total acidity. Considering the above results, it can be concluded that the variety Pearl of Csaba (seeded, medium leaf size) were found to be superior for reducing sugar, average bunch weight, T.S.S. and yield per vine while Saperavi (seeded, thick leaf size) seems to be better in maximum phenolics, starch and yield per vine. Pearl of Csaba (seeded, medium leaf size) variety can be used as breeding line for increasing bunch weight and yield per vine. Not Availabl

The trial was conducted during the season 2016-17 in grower’s vineyard located at Pandharpur (M.S.), India. The experiment was performed on Manik Chaman grape variety which was grafted on Dogridge rootstock. Different treatments of Gibberellic acid tablets (GA3 93%) and powders (GA3 90%) were applied at flowering, 3-4 mm berry stage and 6-8 mm stage of berry development. The observations of bunch weight, 100 berry weights, berry length, TSS, Acidity and yield parameters were taken at harvest. The data showed significant differences in mean bunch weight, berry size, quality and yield parameters. The mean bunch weight was recorded maximum in GA3 tablets when applied @ 40 ppm (372 g) treatments whereas it was found lowest in no application of GA3 (235.7 g). The berry sizes, skin thickness and yield per vine were also recorded significantly highest in GA3 applied plants. No symptoms of any abnormality, toxicity were found either on the leaves, canes, shoot or in grapes berries with the application of GA3 tablets up to 80 ppm concentration. Not Availabl

Not AvailableBerry cracking, a disorder where fruit surface cracks mainly due to heavy irrigation or rain after long dry spell resulting in significant commercial losses in the table and wine grapes production. A research experiment was conducted under field conditions during the session 2016-17 at National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune to evaluate the effect of Silixol (OSA) on berry cracking in Fantasy Seedless grapes. The experiment was performed in the randomised block design, with five replications. Foliar spraying of Silixol in combination of different chemicals was applied thrice at an interval of 10 days before veraison stage. Total rainfall, temperature and humidity were also recorded timely during the experiment. Among the all treatments, T6 (Si + Ca gluconate + Boron) showed significantly lowest percentage of berry cracking followed by T8 (Si Powder + Ca gluconate + Boron) as compared to control. The quality parameters such as T.S.S. and acidity were greatly influenced by the application of Silixol. The highest total soluble solid (21.5 °β) was recorded with the application of T1 (Silixol @ 4 ml/l). Yield per hectare (20.43 t/ha) and Brix yield (234.6 t/ha) were found highest in treatment T1 (Silixol @ 4 ml/l). This approach demonstrated the ability of Silixol to reduce the berry cracking and also improve the quality of grapes. Not Availabl
