    Differential Calculus on the Quantum Superspace and Deformation of Phase Space

    We investigate non-commutative differential calculus on the supersymmetric version of quantum space where the non-commuting super-coordinates consist of bosonic as well as fermionic (Grassmann) coordinates. Multi-parametric quantum deformation of the general linear supergroup, GLq(mn)GL_q(m|n), is studied and the explicit form for the R^{\hat R}-matrix, which is the solution of the Yang-Baxter equation, is presented. We derive the quantum-matrix commutation relation of GLq(mn)GL_q(m|n) and the quantum superdeterminant. We apply these results for the GLq(mn)GL_q(m|n) to the deformed phase-space of supercoordinates and their momenta, from which we construct the R^{\hat R}-matrix of q-deformed orthosymplectic group OSpq(2n2m)OSp_q(2n|2m) and calculate its R^{\hat R}-matrix. Some detailed argument for quantum super-Clifford algebras and the explict expression of the R^{\hat R}-matrix will be presented for the case of OSpq(22)OSp_q(2|2).Comment: 17 pages, KUCP-4

    Influence of joint line remnant on crack paths under static and fatigue loadings in friction stir welded Al-Mg-Sc alloy

    The influence of the joint line remnant (JLR) on tensile and fatigue fracture behaviour has been investigated in a friction stir welded Al-Mg-Sc alloy. JLR is one of the microstructural features formed in friction stir welds depending on welding conditions and alloy systems. It is attributed to initial oxide layer on butting surfaces to be welded. In this study, two different tool travel speeds were used. JLR was formed in both welds but its spatial distribution was different depending on the tool travel speeds. Under the tensile test, the weld with the higher heat input fractured partially along JLR, since strong microstructural inhomogeneity existed in the vicinity of JLR in this weld and JLR had weak bonding. Resultantly, the mechanical properties of this weld were deteriorated compared with the other weld. Fatigue crack initiation was not affected by the existence of JLR in all welds. But the crack propagated preferentially along JLR in the weld of the higher heat input, when it initiated on the retreating side. Consequently, such crack propagation behaviour along JLR could bring about shorter fatigue lives in larger components in which crack growth phase is dominant

    The supermultiplet of boundary conditions in supergravity

    Boundary conditions in supergravity on a manifold with boundary relate the bulk gravitino to the boundary supercurrent, and the normal derivative of the bulk metric to the boundary energy-momentum tensor. In the 3D N=1 setting, we show that these boundary conditions can be stated in a manifestly supersymmetric form. We identify the Extrinsic Curvature Tensor Multiplet, and show that boundary conditions set it equal to (a conjugate of) the boundary supercurrent multiplet. Extension of our results to higher-dimensional models (including the Randall-Sundrum and Horava-Witten scenarios) is discussed.Comment: 22 pages. JHEP format; references added; published versio

    Aspects of Two-Photon Physics at Linear e+e- Colliders

    We discuss various reactions at future e+e- and gamma-gamma colliders involving real (beamstrahlung or backscattered laser) or quasi--real (bremsstrahlung) photons in the initial state and hadrons in the final state. The production of two central jets with large pT is described in some detail; we give distributions for the rapidity and pT of the jets as well as the di--jet invariant mass, and discuss the relative importance of various initial state configurations and the uncertainties in our predictions. We also present results for `mono--jet' production where one jet goes down a beam pipe, for the production of charm, bottom and top quarks, and for single production of W and Z bosons. Where appropriate, the two--photon processes are compared with annihilation reactions leading to similar final states. We also argue that the behaviour of the total inelastic gamma-gamma cross section at high energies will probably have little impact on the severity of background problems caused by soft and semi--hard (`minijet') two--photon reactions. We find very large differences in cross sections for all two--photon processes between existing designs for future e+e- colliders, due to the different beamstrahlung spectra; in particular, both designs with >1 events per bunch crossing exist.Comment: 51 pages, 13 figures(not included

    The concentration of three anti-seizure medications in hair: the effects of hair color, controlling for dose and age

    BACKGROUND: This paper assess the relationship between the quantity of three anti-seizure medications in hair and the color of the analyzed hair, while controlling for the effects of dose, dose duration, and patient age for 140 clinical patients undergoing anti-seizure therapy. Three drugs are assessed: carbamazepine (40 patients), valproic acid (40 patients), and phenytoin (60 patients). The relationship between hair assay results, hair color, dose, dose duration, and age is modeled using an analysis of covariance. The covariance model posits the hair assay results as the dependent variable, the hair color as the qualitative categorical independent variable, and dose, dose duration, and age as covariates. The null hypothesis assessed is that there is a no relationship between hair color and the quantity of analyte determined by hair assay such that darker colored hair will demonstrate higher concentrations of analyte than lighter colored hair. RESULTS: The analysis reveals that there is a significant relationship between dose and concentration for all hair color categories independent of the other covariates or the categorical independent variable. CONCLUSION: There does not appear to be any relationship between carbamazepine concentration and hair color. There is a weak relationship between hair color and valproic acid concentration, which the data suggest may be mediated by age. There is a significant, moderate relationship between phenytoin concentration and hair color such that darker colored hair has greater concentration values than lighter colored hair

    Structure and Production of Lambda Baryons

    We discuss the quark parton structure of the Λ\Lambda baryon and the fragmentation of quarks into Λ\Lambda baryons. We show that the hyperfine interaction, responsible for the Δ\Delta-NN and Σ0\Sigma^0-Λ\Lambda mass splittings, leads not only to sizeable SU(3) and SU(6) symmetry breaking in the quark distributions of the Λ\Lambda, but also to significant polarized non-strange quark distributions. The same arguments suggest flavor asymmetric quark fragmentation functions and non-zero polarized non-strange quark fragmentation functions. The calculated fragmentation functions give a good description of all measured observables. We predict significant positive Λ\Lambda polarization in semi-inclusive DIS experiments while models based on SU(3) flavor symmetry predict zero or negative Λ\Lambda polarization. Our approach also provides a natural explanation for the dependence of the maximum of the ξ=ln(1/z)\xi=\ln(1/z) spectrum on the mass of the particles produced in e+ee^+e^- annihilation.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures, minor change

    Role of Vector Mesons in High-Q^2 Lepton-Nucleon Scattering

    The possible role played by vector mesons in inclusive deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering is investigated. In the context of the convolution model, we calculate self-consistently the scaling contribution to the nucleon structure function using the formalism of time-ordered perturbation theory in the infinite momentum frame. Our results indicate potentially significant effects only when the vector meson---nucleon form factor is very hard. Agreement with the experimental antiquark distributions, however, requires relatively soft form factors for the πN\pi N, ρN\rho N and ωN\omega N vertices.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures (available upon request); accepted for publication in Phys.Rev.D, ADP-92-197/T12

    Clinical outcomes of stereotactic body radiotherapy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer using different doses depending on tumor size

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The treatment schedules for stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for lung cancer vary from institution to institution. Several reports have indicated that stage IB patients had worse outcomes than stage IA patients when the same dose was used. We evaluated the clinical outcomes of SBRT for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with different doses depending on tumor diameter.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Between February 2004 and November 2008, 124 patients with stage I NSCLC underwent SBRT. Total doses of 44, 48, and 52 Gy were administered for tumors with a longest diameter of less than 1.5 cm, 1.5-3 cm, and larger than 3 cm, respectively. All doses were given in 4 fractions.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>For all 124 patients, overall survival was 71%, cause-specific survival was 87%, progression-free survival was 60%, and local control was 80%, at 3 years. The 3-year overall survival was 79% for 85 stage IA patients treated with 48 Gy and 56% for 37 stage IB patients treated with 52 Gy (<it>p </it>= 0.05). At 3 years, cause-specific survival was 91% for the former group and 79% for the latter (<it>p </it>= 0.18), and progression-free survival was 62% versus 54% (<it>p </it>= 0.30). The 3-year local control rate was 81% versus 74% (<it>p </it>= 0.35). The cumulative incidence of grade 2 or 3 radiation pneumonitis was 11% in stage IA patients and 30% in stage IB patients (<it>p </it>= 0.02).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>There was no difference in local control between stage IA and IB tumors despite the difference in tumor size. The benefit of increasing the SBRT dose for larger tumors should be investigated further.</p
