The Real Exchange Rate in India: Determinants and Targeting
This paper studies the behaviour of the real exchange rate (RER) in India. The first part investigates the role of important macroeconomic (behaviour and policy) variables in explaining the movement of the RER. It is found that the investment-gdp ratio, the overall fiscal deficit of the public sector and the nominal exchange rates are important explanatory variables. The second part of the paper seeks to determine whether real exchange rate targeting has been used in India as a tool in enhancing the competitiveness of the tradable sector. It is found that this is indeed the case, and moreover, the correlation between inflation and nominal devaluations is found to be small.
Low Voltage Floating Gate MOS Transistor Based Four-Quadrant Multiplier
This paper presents a four-quadrant multiplier based on square-law characteristic of floating gate MOSFET (FGMOS) in saturation region. The proposed circuit uses square-difference identity and the differential voltage squarer proposed by Gupta et al. to implement the multiplication function. The proposed multiplier employs eight FGMOS transistors and two resistors only. The FGMOS implementation of the multiplier allows low voltage operation, reduced power consumption and minimum transistor count. The second order effects caused due to mobility degradation, component mismatch and temperature variations are discussed. Performance of the proposed circuit is verified at ±0.75 V in TSMC 0.18 µm CMOS, BSIM3 and Level 49 technology by using Cadence Spectre simulator
Synthesis, spectral and sol-gel behavior of mixed ligand complexes of titanium(IV) with oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur donor ligands
A new route to synthesize nano-sized Ti(IV) mixed ligand complexes have been investigated by the reaction of titanium(IV) chloride with ammonium salts of dithiophosphate and 3(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(4-substituted phenyl) pyrazolines. The resultant complex is then treated with H2S gas to get sulfur bridged dimer of Ti(IV) complex, a precursor of TiS2. The morphology of the complexes was studied by employing XRD which shows that all the complexes are amorphous solid. Molecular weight measurements, elemental analysis in conjugation with spectroscopic (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 31P NMR) studies revealed the dimeric nature of the complexes in which pyrazoline and dithiophosphate are bidentate. Scanning electron microscopic image and XRD indicate that the particles are in the nano range (50 nm). Putting all the facts together, coordination number six is proposed for titanium with octahedral geometry.

Improvements in Blind Image Restoration
We present a revisal of blind image deconvolution technique for the restoration of linearly degraded images, without the explicit knowledge of either original image or the psf- the point spread function. Even the scenes which consist of finite support object over a uniformly black, white or grey background, this technique works fine. Occurrence includes certain types of medical imaging, astronomical imaging, and (1-D) gamma ray spectra processing. The only information that is required are the nonnegativity of the true image and the support size of the original object.
The restoration procedure involves recursive filtering of the blurred image to minimize a convex cost function. The new approach is experimentally shown to be more reliable and to have faster convergence than existing nonparametric ¯nite support blind deconvolution methods, for situations in which the exact object support is known.
This thesis covers the basic implementation of NAS-RIF method, using steepest descent, followed by implementation of swarm optimization technique- ACO, to optimize the results
Brackish water culture fisheries: A comment
Based on the papers and proceedings of The National Workshop on Development of Inland Fishery Resources, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Govemment of India, and held during November 1-3, 1983 at Ahmedabad under the joint auspices of the Centre for Management in Agriculture, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Bomba
Aerosol Characteristics at a high-altitude station Nainital during the ISRO-GBP Land Campaign-II
During the second land campaign (LC-II) organised by ISRO-GBP, extensive
ground-based measurements of aerosol characteristics were carried out over
Manora Peak (29.4oN; 79.5oE; 1951 metres above mean sea level), Nainital (a
high altitude station located in the Shivalik ranges of Central Himalayas)
during the dry, winter season (December) of 2004. These measurements included
the spectral aerosol optical depths (AOD), columnar water vapour content (W),
Total Columnar Ozone (TCO), total number concentration (NT) of near surface
aerosols, mass concentration of black carbon (MB), aerosol mass loading (MT),
and Global Solar Radiation. Based on these measured parameters, we present the
results on the near-surface and columnar properties of atmospheric aerosols at
Nainital.Comment: Published in the Proceedings of the ISRO-GBP Land-Campaign-II

Droplet size distribution in homogeneous isotropic turbulence
We study the physics of droplet breakup in a statistically stationary
homogeneous and isotropic turbulent flow by means of high resolution numerical
investigations based on the multicomponent lattice Boltzmann method. We
verified the validity of the criterion proposed by Hinze (1955) for droplet
breakup and we measured the full probability distribution function (pdf) of
droplets radii at different Reynolds numbers and for different volume fraction.
By means of a Lagrangian tracking we could follow individual droplets along
their trajectories, define a local Weber number based on the velocity gradients
and study its cross-correlation with droplet deformation.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
