Hadron production from quark coalescence and jet fragmentation in intermediate energy collisions at RHIC
Transverse momentum spectra of pions, protons and antiprotons in Au+Au
collisions at intermediate RHIC energy of GeV are studied in
a model that includes both quark coalescence from the dense partonic matter and
fragmentation of the quenched perturbative minijet partons. The resulting
baryon to meson ratio at intermediate transverse momenta is predicted to be
larger than that seen in experiments at higher center of mass energies.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. Figures replaced to differentially address the

Identified Hadrons and Jet Chemistry for p+p and Au+Au Collisions at RHIC
The study of hadron spectra at high in p+p collisions provides a good
test of perturbative quantum chromo-dynamic calculations (pQCD) and baseline
for measurements of nuclear modification factors in Au+Au collisions. Using
events triggered by the Barrel Electro-Magnetic Calorimeter, identified charged
hadron transverse momentum () spectra are measured up to 15 GeV/ at
mid-rapidity ( 0.5) and neutral kaon spectra up to 12
GeV/ in p + p collisions at = 200 GeV. The particle ratios
of , and / in p + p
collisions are shown and compared with next-to-leading order pQCD calculations.
In central Au+Au collisions, we report nuclear modification factors ()
for pion, kaon, proton and and discuss several model calculations:
color-charge dependence of jet quenching and jet conversion. Finally,
centrality dependence of at high ( 5.5 GeV/c) for kaon are

A case for re-inventory of Australia’s plant pathogens
Australia has efficient and visible plant quarantine measures, which through various border controls and survey activities attempt to prevent the entry of unwanted pests and diseases. The ability to successfully perform this task relies heavily on determining what pathogens are present and established in Australia as well as those pathogens that are exotic and threatening. There are detailed checklists and databases of fungal plant pathogens in Australia, compiled, in part, from surveys over many years sponsored by Federal and State programmes. These checklists and databases are mostly specimen-based, which enables validation of records with reference herbarium specimens and sometimes associated cultures. Most of the identifications have been based on morphological examination. The use of molecular methods, particularly the analysis of DNA sequence data, has recently shown that several well-known and important plant pathogenic species are actually complexes of cryptic species. We provide examples of this in the important plant pathogenic genera Botryosphaeria and its anamorphs, Colletotrichum, Fusarium, Phomopsis / Diaporthe and Mycosphaerella and its anamorphs. The discovery of these cryptic species indicates that many of the fungal names in checklists need scrutiny. It is difficult, and often impossible, to extract DNA for sequence analysis from herbarium specimens in order to validate identifications that may now be considered suspect. This validation can only be done if specimens are recollected, re-isolated and subjected to DNA analysis. Where possible, herbarium specimens as well as living cultures are needed to support records. Accurate knowledge of the plant pathogens within Australia’s borders is an essential prerequisite for the effective discharge of plant quarantine activities that will prevent or delay the arrival of unwanted plant pathogens
Equation of state of the hot dense matter in a multi-phase transport model
Within the framework of a multi-phase transport model, we study the equation
of state and pressure anisotropy of the hot dense matter produced in central
relativistic heavy ion collisions. Both are found to depend on the
hadronization scheme and scattering cross sections used in the model.
Furthermore, only partial thermalization is achieved in the produced matter as
a result of its fast expansion
Hadron widths in mixed-phase matter
We derive classically an expression for a hadron width in a two-phase region
of hadron gas and quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The presence of QGP gives hadrons
larger widths than they would have in a pure hadron gas. We find that the
width observed in a central Au+Au collision at
GeV/nucleon is a few MeV greater than the width in a pure hadron gas. The part
of observed hadron widths due to QGP is approximately proportional to

Outcomes and challenges in the management of gestational trophoblastic disease in a tertiary institution in Nigeria
Context: Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases are a spectrum of interrelated diseases disorders that arise from abnormal pregnancy and are characterized by excessive elevation of Human Chorionic Gonadotrophins. They include both benign and malignant forms; hydatidiform mole, Invasive mole, Placental Site Trophoblastic (PSTT) tumour and Choriocarcinoma.Objective: The objective of this study was to present the outcomes and challenges encountered in the management of GTDs in a tertiary centre in South-western part of Nigeria.Study Design, Setting and Subjects: This was a retrospective study of the cases of gestational trophoblastic disease managed at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching hospitals complex, Ile Ife between 2009 and 2013. Data were retrieved from the case records and telephone calls were put across the patients to enquire about the state of health of the patients. Data was analysed using SPSS version 20.Main Outcome Measures: The main outcome measures were the incidence of GTDs, outcomes and challenges encountered in the management of patients with gestational trophoblastic disease.Results: A total of 27 women were managed for GTDs; 22 had hydatidiform moles and 5 were managed for choriocarcinoma. The mean age of the patients was 31.9 years SD 6.94, mean parity 2 SD 1.53; mean duration of amenorrhoea was 15.7 weeks SD 4.92. The most common presenting symptom was vaginal bleeding in 81.5% of cases. Non-adherence to prescribed treatment was high as over half of the patients with molar pregnancy was lost to follow up after molar evacuation. Mortality was also high among patients with GTDs as 60% of the patients with choriocarcinoma died during treatment
Partonic effects on anisotropic flows at RHIC
We report recent results from a multiphase transport (AMPT) model on the
azimuthal anisotropies of particle momentum distributions in heavy ion
collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These include higher-order
anisotropic flows and their scaling, the rapidity dependence of anisotropic

Kaon versus Antikaon Production at SIS Energies
We analyse the production and propagation of kaons and antikaons in Ni + Ni
reactions from 0.8--1.85 GeV/u within a coupled channel transport approach
including the channels as well as and for
the antikaon absorption. Whereas the experimental spectra can be
reproduced without introducing any selfenergies for the mesons in Ni + Ni
collisions from 0.8 to 1.8 GeV/u, the yield is underestimated by a factor
of 5--7 at 1.66 and 1.85 GeV/u. However, introducing density dependent antikaon
masses as proposed by Kaplan and Nelson, the antikaon spectra can be reasonably
