    Data Transfer through an Image and Its Recovery Causing Minimum Distortion in the Carrier Image: A Survey

    This paper, tries to address the problem of transmitting the huge amount of data over a communication channel hidden into an image and making sure that there is minimum distortion created into the image carrying that secret data. In this project the sender or the data owner who wants to send his data first encrypts the data and then store that encrypted data in such an efficient way that it required minimum number of bits to be altered to hide the data into an Image. This efficiency is created using the LFSR algorithm which is applied on the secret key which in turn creates a unique set of keys which are checked and used for hiding the data. The data too is not hidden sequentially into an image, it is hidden randomly based on the secret key making it more complicated. Once the data is hidden the image the, it is encrypted using the AES algorithm. Here too it adds the encryption in parallel where the image is divided into equal parts and then the AES algorithm is applied to all the parts of the image simultaneously, thus saving our time in the encryption process. Thus shows a significant time saving in case the large images are used. This image when encrypted is send to the receiver and at the receivers end ,the one who has the correct keys can only get back the original image and the secret data. This makes sure that the receiver get the correct data and the image with minimum distortion

    A comparative study of transcervical foley’s catheter with intracervical PGE2 gel for pre-induction cervical ripening

    Background: To compare the efficacy of transcervical foley’s catheter with intracervical PGE2 gel for pre -induction cervical ripening.Methods: It was a prospective interventional study conducted between April 2012 to April 2013 in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at L. L. R. M. medical college and S. V. B. P. hospital Meerut. A total of 80 pregnant women of ≥28 weeks of gestation with bishop score less than or equal to 4 and with various indications for induction of labour were randomly allocated to receive intracervical PGE2 gel (Group A) or transcervical foley’s catheter (Group B). Bishop score was repeated after 6 hours by the same person and the results were compared.Results: The groups were comparable with respect to maternal age, gestational age, indications of induction of labour and initial bishop’s score. The intragroup results were calculated by Wilcoxon signed rank test and intergroup results were calculated by Mann Whitney U-test. The change in bishop score in PGE2 group was 3 and in foley’s group was 3.25 after 6 hours of induction (interquartile range of median) which is significant. The mean change in bishops score was 2.65 in PGE2 group and 3.1 in foley’s group after 6 hours of induction and was significant, however the bishop’s score was comparable in both the groups and statistically insignificant.Conclusions: Both foley’s catheter and PGE2 gel are equally effective in pre-induction cervical ripening of cervix

    Anti-roll bar, stabilizer or sway bar, is a rod or tube, usually made of steel, that connects the left and right wheels members together to resist roll or swaying of the vehicle which occurs during cornering or due to road irregularities. An anti-roll bar improves the handling of a vehicle by increasing stability during cornering or evasive manoeuvres. The bar's tensional stiffness (resistance to twist) determines its ability to reduce body roll, and is named as “shear stress or Rolling Stiffness”. More vehicles have front anti-roll bars. Anti-roll bars at both the front and the rear wheels can reduce roll further. The other function of anti-roll bars is to tune the handling balance of a car. Under steer or overseer behaviour can be tuned out by changing the proportion of the total rolling stiffness that comes from the front and rear axles. The stabilizer bars contribute thus considerably to the improvement of comfort of the motor vehicles

    Study of interleukin-6 levels in early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis

    Background:Neonatal septicemia is one of the commonest causes of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Interleukin-6 Levels appears to be one of the most promising candidate cytokine for early diagnosis of neonatal septicaemia. The aim and objectives of this study was to study the role of IL-6 levels as an early marker for diagnosis of neonatal sepsis and to compare IL-6 levels with other septic markers.  Methods:This is a hospital based prospective study to evaluate the efficacy of IL-6 as an early diagnostic marker of neonatal sepsis. Eighty neonates, delivered in the hospital, having risk factors for neonatal sepsis, along with those coming to hospital with signs and symptoms of sepsis up to 28 days of life (as study group ) along with normal new-borns admitted to the postnatal ward without high risk factors (control group) were enrolled for this study.Results:IL-6 Levels has shown maximum sensitivity of 95.83%, specificity of 87.50%, positive predictive value of 92%, negative predictive value of 93.33% and accuracy of 92.50 %. E. coli was the most common organism responsible for sepsis. CRP was reported to be highly sensitive (84.21%), and  CBC was highly specific (75.00%), IT ratio has sensitivity of 62.5% and specificity of 56.25% while micro-ESR has shown sensitivity of 50.0% and specificity of 62.5%. Out of 80 cases, blood culture (BacTalert) showed growth in 48 cases in study group while two cases in control group. Thus blood culture positivity was 60%.Conclusion:IL-6 test has maximum sensitivity as well as specificity in comparison with other septic markers. Blood culture is the gold standard for the diagnosis of septicemia. CRP is most sensitive while CBC is most specific marker in neonatal sepsis.

    Pregnancy in rudimentary horn of unicornuate uterus: a rare case

    Congenital malformations of the female genital tract result from embryological maldevelopment of Mullerian or paramesonephric ducts. Mullerian duct anomalies (MDAs) are due to agenesis, defective fusion or resorption during embryological development. Unicornuate uterus results due to defective lateral fusion of Mullerian duct. This report discussed a case of pregnancy in rudimentary horn of unicornuate uterus which resulted in rupture of the horn. A patient 35 year old G2A1 with spontaneous conception with 4 months pregnancy came to emergency room with complaints of pain in abdomen and giddiness. On examination her general condition was moderate with pulse rate of 128 bpm, blood pressure of 90/60 mmHg, pallor was present. On per abdomen examination guarding, rigidity and diffuse tenderness was present. On per vaginum examination, uterus size could not be appreciated. Her haemoglobin level was 6 gm%. Ultrasonography of abdomen showed presence of unicornuate uterus with ruptured right horn with fetus in the abdominal cavity and presence of hemoperitoneum. Immediate resuscitative measures were performed, blood transfusion was started and simultaneously patient was shifted to operation theatre for exploratory laparotomy. Intraoperatively hemoperitoneum with unicornuate uterus with non communicating ruptured accessory horn on right side was present and foetus in peritoneal cavity was seen. Ruptured horn was excised and uterus was repaired. The accessory horn and foetus were sent for histopathology examination which was suggestive of placenta increta with gestational hypertrophy and hyperplasia of myometrium with normal tube and ovary. Patient tolerated the procedure well

    Cirrhosis of liver is a risk factor for gallstone disease

    Background: Gallstones are common clinical finding in general population. Mean prevalence rate in Indian population is 4-5%. The prevalence of gallstones is found to be high in cirrhotic patients compared to the general population in some western studies. Cause of this increased prevalence however is not known. Aim of the study was to evaluate prevalence of the gall stones in the cirrhotic patients, assess risk factors in cirrhotic patients and clinical presentation.Methods: This is the cross sectional observational study, included cirrhotic patients (compensated or decompensated). Risk factors for gallstone formation (age, gender and diabetes mellitus), characteristics of liver cirrhosis (etiology, Child Turcotte Pugh class, hypersplenism and varices) and clinical presentation were assessed in all cirrhotic patients with gallstones.Results: 336 patients with liver cirrhosis are included in this study; 201 (59.80%) male and 135 (40.2%) female. Mean age of the patients is 44.95±13.1 years. Overall prevalence of gall stones was 12.8% (43/336). Out of 43 patients, 23 (53.5%) are male and 20 (46.5%) are female. As child status progresses from A to B to C, prevalence of gall stone increases, with 60.46% (26/43) of gall stones occurring in the patients with CTP class C. Only 8 (18.6%) patients had gallstone related symptoms while rests were asymptomatic. 5 (11.6%) had concurrent CBD stones. Cholecystectomy was possible in only 2 patients with symptomatic gallstones.Conclusions: The prevalence of gall stones in cirrhotic is higher than general population which increases with the severity of liver cirrhosis. Most cirrhotic patients are asymptomatic for gallstones

    The 2008 annual conference of the Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet), Asia's oldest bioinformatics organisation set up in 1998, was organized as the 7th International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB), jointly with the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology in Taiwan (BIT 2008) Conference, Oct. 20–23, 2008 at Taipei, Taiwan. Besides bringing together scientists from the field of bioinformatics in this region, InCoB is actively involving researchers from the area of systems biology, to facilitate greater synergy between these two groups. Marking the 10th Anniversary of APBioNet, this InCoB 2008 meeting followed on from a series of successful annual events in Bangkok (Thailand), Penang (Malaysia), Auckland (New Zealand), Busan (South Korea), New Delhi (India) and Hong Kong. Additionally, tutorials and the Workshop on Education in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (WEBCB) immediately prior to the 20th Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) Taipei Conference provided ample opportunity for inducting mainstream biochemists and molecular biologists from the region into a greater level of awareness of the importance of bioinformatics in their craft. In this editorial, we provide a brief overview of the peer-reviewed manuscripts accepted for publication herein, grouped into thematic areas. As the regional research expertise in bioinformatics matures, the papers fall into thematic areas, illustrating the specific contributions made by APBioNet to global bioinformatics efforts

    Avicin D, a Plant Triterpenoid, Induces Cell Apoptosis by Recruitment of Fas and Downstream Signaling Molecules into Lipid Rafts

    Avicins, a family of triterpene electrophiles originally identified as potent inhibitors of tumor cell growth, have been shown to be pleiotropic compounds that also possess antioxidant, anti-mutagenic, and anti-inflammatory activities. We previously showed that Jurkat cells, which express a high level of Fas, are very sensitive to treatment with avicins. Thus, we hypothesized that avicins may induce cell apoptosis by activation of the Fas pathway. By using a series of cell lines deficient in cell death receptors, we demonstrated that upon avicin D treatment, Fas translocates to the cholesterol- and sphingolipid-enriched membrane microdomains known as lipid rafts. In the lipid rafts, Fas interacts with Fas-associated death domain (FADD) and Caspase-8 to form death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) and thus mediates cell apoptosis. Interfering with lipid raft organization by using a cholesterol-depleting compound, methyl-β-cyclodextrin, not only prevents the clustering of Fas and its DISC complex but also reduces the sensitivity of the cells to avicin D. Avicin D activates Fas pathways independent of the association between extracellular Fas ligands and Fas receptors. A deficiency in Fas and its downstream signaling molecules leads to the resistance of the cells to avicin D treatment. Taken together, our results demonstrate that avicin D triggers the redistribution of Fas in the membrane lipid rafts, where Fas activates receptor-mediated cell death
