Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between the clothing style of physicians providing service in the Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) clinic and patients' physician preferences. Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out with 250 patients who would undergo open-heart surgery in the CVS clinic of a training and research hospital in Istanbul between April and August 2017. Data were obtained using the questionnaire form including questions about clothing preferences and their effects on patient-physician relations by showing the pictures of different clothing styles of both male and female physicians (classic, white coat, sport, uniform). In the data analysis, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean), as well as the chi-square test for comparisons between the groups, were used. Results: The average age of the participants was 55.37±14.33 years, and 55.2% of them were male. It was determined that white coat was the most preferred clothing style for CVS physicians. Younger patients compared to older patients, and male patients compared to female patients stated that they mostly wanted their physicians to wear a white coat during a routine physical examination and while sharing their private matters. Conclusion: Patients stated that they preferred CVS physicians to primarily wear a white coat. For this reason, the white coat may positively affect patient-physician relations and may help a physician in making a good impression

The burgeoning international concern over environmental sustainability has brought to the forefront the unique challenges climate change poses to global economies and financial markets. In the light of this, the role of International Financial Institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in transitioning towards a green economy is increasingly critical. This study aims to elucidate the influence of climate risk on financial access and stability within G20 countries, spanning from 2006 to 2017. Employing a comprehensive panel data analysis, which accounts for cross-sectional dependence and slope heterogeneity, a fixed effects model is utilized. The Global Climate Risk Index (CRI) scores, provided by Germanwatch, serve as the primary measure of climate risk, with lower scores indicating heightened risk. The investigation reveals a non-linear relationship, where enhanced financial access correlates with diminishing climate risk, underscoring the positive impact of climate change policies on financial system efficiency. However, no significant connection is found between climate risk and financial fragility, a phenomenon potentially attributed to the resilience of countries with advanced credit markets and preemptive risk insurance measures by households. These findings imply that while climate change significantly influences financial access in G20 countries, its effect on financial fragility within the studied period is negligible. The study underscores the potential for policy interventions in climate change mitigation to augment financial system efficiency. Ensuring the consistency of professional terminology, the analysis provides insights into the nuanced relationship between climate risk and financial dynamics in major economies.peer-reviewe

32-39Chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (CS/PVA) membranes containing silver nitrate have been prepared and investigated for antimicrobial properties of prepared membranes. CS/PVA membranes containing silver nitrate have been successfully prepared by solution casting method. The prepared membranes have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) methods. The elemental composition of the membranes is studied by energy dispersive analysis of SEM-EDX. Correspondingly, the EDX analysis confirms the presence of silver ions in the chitosan matrix. The antimicrobial activities of the membranes have been tested with wide spectrum of bacteria. Efficiency of the antimicrobial effect against the selected twelve bacteria type and two yeasts is measured by disc diffusion method. Effect of the concentration of silver solutions to the developed CS/PVA membranes was investigated. It is noticed that the antimicrobial activity of membranes is improved with the increased silver concentration as a bactericidal agent, as expected. Our observations suggest that Chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/Ag (CS/PVA/Ag) membranes have an excellent antimicrobial effect. Thus, developed membranes can easily be applied in various fields such as biomedical sector, tissue engineering and water treatment sector

Abstract Background Due to their modulatory effect on biofilm growth, bacterial gene expressions, and host-modulation effects, fermented foods and probiotic products could potentially have a protective role against peri-implant diseases. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the association of consumption of fermented foods and products containing probiotics, with peri-implant health and diseases. Methods A total of 126 implants were included. The peri-implant health status (peri-implantitis, peri-implant mucositis, and peri-implant health) was assessed through Chicago’s Classification of periodontal and peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the consumption patterns of fermented and probiotic foods and product. One-way ANOVA was employed to compare the 3 peri-implant conditions categories in terms of fermented food and probiotic consumption. Results There were significant differences in the daily and general consumption of yogurt, probiotic yogurt, kefir, ayran, vinegar, pomegranate syrup, whole meal bread, and homemade butter among peri-implantitis, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implant health (p < 0.05). The peri-implant health group consumed significantly more yogurt, kefir, ayran, vinegar, whole wheat bread, and homemade butter than peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Conclusion A higher consumption of fermented and probiotic foods may be associated with peri-implant health. Fermented and probiotic products may be useful for prevention of peri-implant diseases in patients with implants

The purpose of this study is to determine the behavioral consequences of brand hate and moderator effect of perceived brand level and brand attachment on the relationship between brand hate and behavioral outcomes. In this context, the effects of brand hate on purchase tendency, inertia, brand change intention, brand avoidance, negative word of mouth and brand revenge were discussed. In addition, the regulatory role of the level of perceived hate and brand attachment in this relationship has been investigated. In this context, the model of the study was presented in line with the hypotheses created in the light of theoretical information. A survey was conducted with 400 participants in the study.Within the scope of the study, the analysis of the data was carried out with the structural equation model and regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, it has been revealed that brand hate has an effect on purchasing tendency, inertia, brand change intention, brand avoidance, negative word of mouth and brand revenge. It has been found that hate brand attachment have a regulatory role in the relationship between brand hate and purchasing tendency, and brand hate and brand revenge. In other words, brand attachment reduces the negative impact of brand hate on the purchasing tendency and increases its impact on brand revenge. It has been determined that the level of perceived hate does not have a moderator role in the relationship between brand hate and behavioral consequences. Low or high perceived hate level does not affect the effects of brand hate on purchasing tendency, inertia, brand change intention, brand avoidance, negative word of mouth and brand revenge. Evaluation of drug permeability methods recommended by health authorities

The oral route is the most preferred route for drug administration because of patient compliance. Following oral administration, a drug has to cross several biological barriers before reaching the systemic circulation by transcellular or paracellular transports. Oral drug absorption and bioavailability are influenced by the physicochemical, formulation and physiological variables. Oral absorption of drugs is controlled by dissolution from the dosage form, and permeability across the gastrointestinal membrane. Rate limiting step in absorption is the permeability for compounds with low permeability, and dissolution for compounds with low solubility. According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS)-based biowaiver guidance and European Medicines Agency (EMA) Guideline on the Investigation of Bioequivalence, permeability class of a drug substance can be determined using different methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the methods in detail recommended by FDA and EMA for determination of permeability of drugs. We surveyed the literature as to the pros and cons of the methods recommended by the health authorities for assessment of permeability. In general, a single method is sufficient for determination of permeability. When a single method fails to demonstrate a permeability classification, two different methods may be used. WOS: 000589114300001Hypertension is the condition where the normal blood pressure is high. This situation is manifested by the high pressure of the blood in the vein towards the vessel wall. Hypertension mostly affects the brain, kidneys, eyes, arteries and heart. Therefore, the diagnosis of this common disease is important. It may take days, weeks or even months for diagnosis. Often a device, called a blood pressure holter, is connected to the person for 24 or 48 h and the person's blood pressure is recorded at certain intervals. Diagnosis can be made by the specialist physician considering these results. in recent years, various physiological measurement techniques have been used to accelerate this time-consuming diagnostic phase and intelligent models have been proposed. One of these techniques is photopletesmography (PPG). in this study, a model for the detection of hypertension disease in individuals was proposed using chirp z-transform and statistical features (total band power, autoregressive model parameters, standard deviation of signal's derivative and zero crossing rate) of optimal band-pass filtered short-time PPG signals. the proposed method was successfully applied to 657 PPG trials, which each of them had only 2.1 s signal length and achieved a classification accuracy rate of 77.52% on the test data. the results showed that the diagnosis of hypertension can be performed effectively by chirp z-transform and statistical features and support vector machine classifier using optimal frequency range of 1.4-6 Hz

WOS: 000581806700002Purpose Different kinds of sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes have been used for inferring, predicting, and monitoring human activities for various kinds of applications, including human-computer interaction, surveillance, smart home, health care, and security. in this study, we present a novel and robust method to recognize human activities, including resting, squat, and stepper exercises, solely from photoplethysmography (PPG), which is a non-invasive, simple, and low-cost opto-electronic technique that takes measures from the skin surface. Methods the features were extracted in raw PPG segments by Hilbert transform and then classified by the k-nearest neighbor, naive Bayes, and decision tree algorithms. Results the proposed method was successfully applied to the data set recorded from seven subjects and achieved an average classification accuracy rate of 89.39% on the test data. the smaller standard deviation results proved that the proposed method was robust, and the detection of human activities can be effectively performed by Hilbert transform features and decision tree classifier. Conclusions This PPG-based approach could provide human-activity information in addition to monitoring heart rates and early screenings of various atherosclerotic pathologies, such as cardiovascular and hypertension diseases
