Transitions in the Periphery: Funding Film Production in Greece since the Financial Crisis
The article focuses on Greece and explores the extent and ways in which film production funding cultures have changed in the period 2010-2015. It maps out the hybrid modes of funding embraced by filmmakers in this period, and explores the extent to which new models such as crowdfunding were adopted, European co-production opportunities were more fully embraced, as well as how far traditional modes of financing such as, on the one hand, state funding, and, on the other, private, distributor-led, backing have persisted. As a country of the European periphery, and one particularly hard-hit by the recent financial crisis, Greece offers a good example of the processes of an uncertain, but also creatively productive, cultural and financial transition. Set within the broader context of global changes led by technology, the national case study illustrates how state and private top-bottom funding initiatives have begun to co-exist with bottom-up production and dissemination processes, and how some new players have entered the scene. The patterns revealed through this exploration of the new funding cultures for film production in Greece contribute to an understanding of the impact of global economic transformations on a national level, and help us assess the effectiveness and viability of the new funding models for small markets
In this paper some critical reflexions are expressed, concerning tecnical aspectcs of tile-produccion instalations, which could contribute to elucidate partly some of the apparent philological incongruities, traditional detected in the second part of the same chapter where the sanctions are established. In the same manner, the carácter, extremely severe, of such sanctions is discussed, a fact inducing to suspect that legislator was moving from political rather than urbanistic, ecological or financial imperatives
Interoperability and testing in broadband satellite networks
By combining satellite and terrestrial (wireless) technologies, full coverage and high capacity can be achieved for true broadband services. The interoperability of such diverse networks imposes a number of challenges regarding service provision and management. The end-to-end quality of service (QoS) management implies that features such as service scalability between different networks have to be available. On the other hand, wireless QoS capabilities provide a promising diversity for a wide range of seamless applications. However, differences in QoS properties between both the wired and the wireless applications have a considerable effect on the quality level as well as platform and application dimensions of network interoperability. This paper examines the so-called interoperability requirements in integrated uses of satellite communication technology together with terrestrial (wireless) network technology for seamless delivery of broadband services (using ISABEL and CLIX e-learning applications) in rural and remote areas. This is demonstrated with an example of two educational, real-time and recorded, eLearning services. ©2008 IEEE
