Encoding Candlesticks as Images for Patterns Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks
Candlestick charts display the high, low, opening, and closing prices in a
specific period. Candlestick patterns emerge because human actions and
reactions are patterned and continuously replicate. These patterns capture
information on the candles. According to Thomas Bulkowski's Encyclopedia of
Candlestick Charts, there are 103 candlestick patterns. Traders use these
patterns to determine when to enter and exit. Candlestick pattern
classification approaches take the hard work out of visually identifying these
patterns. To highlight its capabilities, we propose a two-steps approach to
recognize candlestick patterns automatically. The first step uses the Gramian
Angular Field (GAF) to encode the time series as different types of images. The
second step uses the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with the GAF images to
learn eight critical kinds of candlestick patterns. In this paper, we call the
approach GAF-CNN. In the experiments, our method can identify the eight types
of candlestick patterns with 90.7% average accuracy automatically in real-world
data, outperforming the LSTM model.Comment: 18 pages, 20 figures. Accepted by Financial Innovation, June 2020.

Cutaneous Mycobacterium intracellulare infection presenting as multiple asymptomatic papulonodules in an immunocompetent adult: A case report and review of the literature
AbstractDisseminated cutaneous nontuberculous mycobacteria infection is rare in immunocompetent hosts. We report a case of Mycobacterium intracellulare infection in an immunocompetent patient presenting with simultaneously developing multiple asymptomatic cutaneous papulonodules. The possibility of lung lesions as the primary focus is suspected. We review the literature for other cases of multiple cutaneous M avium complex infections in immunocompetent hosts. There are differences in the virulence of M avium and M intracellulare, and hence in the underlying immune status of the hosts
THE VARIATION OF DOMINANT ELBOW RANGE OF MOTION AMONG DIFFERENT MATURE STAGE FOR BASEBALL PITCHERS
The purpose of this study was to examine the variation of elbow range of motion (ROM) in the dominant arm between different maturity levels in baseball pitchers. Sixty-two pitchers, including 17 early-puberty players, 22 later-puberty players, and 23 adult players, participated in this study. A goniometer was used to assess elbow ROM in the dominant arms, including elbow flexion, hyper-extension, supination, pronation and valgus angles. The results showed that smaller ROM was found in elbow flexion, supination, and pronation, and larger ROM in elbow valgue, in pithers of later puberty level (
Sustained Robust Exciton Emission in Suspended Monolayer WSe_2 within the Low Carrier Density Regime for Quantum Emitter Applications
The development of semiconductor optoelectronic devices is moving toward low
power consumption and miniaturization, especially for high-efficiency quantum
emitters. However, most of these quantum sources work at low carrier density
region, where the Shockley-Read-Hall recombination may dominant and seriously
reduce the emission efficiency. In order to diminish the affection of carrier
trapping and sustain a strong photoluminescence emission under low power
pumping condition, we investigated on the influence of Suspending to
monolayered tungsten diselenide, novel two-dimensional quantum material. Not
only the PL intensity, but also the fundamental photoluminescence quantum yield
has exhibited a huge, order-scale enhancement through suspending, even
surprisingly, we found the PLQY improvement revealed far significantly under
small pumping power and came out an exponential increase tendency toward even
lower carrier density region. With its strong excitonic effect, suspended WSe_2
offers a solution to reduce carrier trapping and participate in non-radiative
processes. Moreover, in the low-power range where SRH recombination dominates,
suspended WSe_2 exhibited remarkably higher percentage of excitonic radiation
compared to contacted WSe_2. Herein, we quantitatively demonstrate the
significance of suspended WSe_2 monolayer at low carrier density region,
highlighting its potential for developing compact, low-power quantum emitters
