this paper, which is an extended and upgraded version of a conference presentation, we present an algorithm that simulates the stochastic processes associated with the auroral emissions in order to represent the major visual features of the auroral displays. It can be used by both designers and researchers to produce auroral images. Designers can use it to include auroral displays in the synthetic reproduction of polar scenes or in simulations of the night sky at different latitudes.
