SCHMERZ UND EMOTIONALER VERARBEITUNG IM PSYCHOLOGISCHEN TRAUMATA
Extreme psychological and physical traumas cause
dramatic symptom patterns which are insufficiently described
by the psychiatric diagnostic criteria of post traumatic stress
disorders (PTSD). Additionally, due to the neurobiological
proximity and similarity of processing mechanisms of physical
and psychological pain stimulation and extremely negative
emotions, the patients often suffer from persistent pains even
after the somatic healing process is completed. Epidemiological
studies confirm the joint occurrence of pain and PTSD.
The close relationship and the etiological and behavioral
similarities of both disorders have led to the development of
joined vulnerability and mutual maintenance models. The
particular suffering of patients with PTSD due to chronic pain
necessitates pain-therapeutic interventions. On the other
hand, in chronic pain patients, the etiological role of severe
traumas should be considered.
der Symptome (vulnerability and mutual maintenance
models). Daraus folgt die Notwendigkeit das Schmerzleiden von
Patienten mit PTBS spezifisch schmerztherapeutisches zu
behandeln. Andererseits sollte der ätiologischen Bedeutung von
traumatischen Ereignissen für die Schmerzentstehung und –
aufrechterhaltung bei Schmerzpatienten beachtet werden

Once Upon a Time in New Zealand: Library Aspirations and Colonial Reality in the Early Years of European Settlement, or; 'The Tone and Character to Civilization'
Nineteenth Century New Zealand Novels and Novellas Published as Serials in New Zealand, Australian and British Newspapers and Periodicals and Never Published as Monographs: A Checklist
“It is to the old newspapers that we must go if we want to see the beginning of colonial fiction … there are in the dusty files of these and other journals many stories of colonial life which have never struggled out of the papers into book form.” Clara Eyre Cheeseman, “Colonials in Fiction,” NZ Illustrated Magazine 7 no. 4 (1 January 1903): 274
Hocken: Prince of Collectors
Dr Thomas Morland Hocken (1836-1910), born and trained as a medical practitioner in Britain, settled in Dunedin in 1862 and built a very successful medical practice. He soon began researching early New Zealand history and by 1880 was delivering public lectures on the subject. At a time when there were no publicly available collections of primary sources or publications relating to New Zealand in the country, and where the best resources for historical research were in London, Hocken began collecting ephemera, maps, newspapers, pamphlets and books, paintings and drawings, seeking out and copying original documents and saving the reminiscences of old colonists to support his research and publications. Over time his collecting became more comprehensive and he turned his attention to creating a full bibliographical record of New Zealand publications, culminating in the publication of A Bibliography of the Literature Relating to New Zealand in 1908. His last act was to gift his collection to the nation to be held in trust by the University of Otago and available for anyone with a definite purpose of study
Submerged Below the Codex Line: New Zealand's Neglected Nineteenth Century Serial Novels
The compilation of a checklist of nineteenth-century New Zealand novels and novellas published as serials and never issued as monographs, which provides the core evidence on which this paper is based, was inspired by Lydia Wevers’ article in Pacific Highways in 2013. What I found down there in the newspapers was far more than I had expected
Beyond negative humanism: subjectivation, the lived body and human rights
The social production of subjects has been a longstanding matter of scholarly dispute in the social and educational sciences. In the second half of the last century, the prominent contribution of the human sciences to the shaping of modern selves was discovered through discourse studies. By and large, this critical description of the human sciences has itself become part of such sciences, contributing to a permanent critique of its metaphysical and anti-emancipatory moments. However, in the 21st century, a visible erosion of the institution of the modern subject leads not to emancipatory transgressions of modernity but to regression into authoritarian mentalities. We suggest taking one step back, appreciating critical moments in the human sciences, and two steps forward to discover the connexion of violence and human rights in the social production of the subject
