Effective Feature Extraction Method for SVM-Based Profiled Attacks
Nowadays, one of the most powerful side channel attacks (SCA) is profiled attack. Machine learning algorithms, for example support vector machine, are currently used for improving the effectiveness of the attack. One issue when using SVM-based profiled attack is extracting points of interest, or features from power traces. So far, studies in SCA domain have selected the points of interest (POIs) from the raw power trace for the classifiers. Our work proposes a novel method for finding POIs that based on the combining variational mode decomposition (VMD) and Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization (GSO). That is, VMD is used to decompose the power traces into sub-signals (modes) of different frequencies and POIs selection process based on GSO is conducted on these sub-signals. As a result, the selected POIs are used for SVM classifier to conduct profiled attack. This attack method outperforms other profiled attacks in the same attack scenario. Experiments were performed on a trace data set collected from the Atmega8515 smart card run on the side channel evaluation board Sakura-G/W and the data set of DPA contest v4 to verify the effectiveness of our method in reducing number of power traces for the attacks, especially with noisy power traces
Evaluation of CNC lathe machine with fuzzy linguistic mcdm methods
CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) lathes have become integral to modern manufacturing and machining industries due to their ability to produce intricate parts with precision and efficiency. Not only do CNC lathes enhance productivity and accuracy, but they also minimize human error and enhance overall safety in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, the current market offers a wide array of diverse types of CNC lathes. Consequently, the evaluation and selection of CNC lathes pose a complex decision-making challenge as there are numerous types available, each with a variety of selection criteria for manufacturers to consider. It is crucial to make an informed choice, as improper evaluation and selection can have adverse effects on the overall performance of the production system. In this study, we propose using the fuzzy EDAS (Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution) model to evaluate and select CNC lathes. Initially, we employ the fuzzy analysis method, based on expert opinions, to establish a set of weights for the evaluation criteria. These criteria consist of seven factors: capital cost, spindle speed, distance between centers, rapid traverse rates in the X-axis and Z-axis, maximum machining diameter, and maximum machining length. Subsequently, the fuzzy EDAS object ranking model is utilized to evaluate and rank the CNC lathes, ultimately aiding in the selection of the most suitable machine for the manufacturer. The results obtained from our analysis reveal that the MICROTURN-300DX machine is the optimal choice, closely followed by the MICROTURN-300X machine. The study's findings serve as valuable guidelines for decision makers in selecting CNC lathes that align with the requirements of factory production. Moreover, the suggested approach can also be utilized to choose various other machine types as production demands become more intricat
Simulating Noisy Quantum Circuits for Cryptographic Algorithms
The emergence of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers has
important consequences for cryptographic algorithms. It is theoretically
well-established that key algorithms used in cybersecurity are vulnerable to
quantum computers due to the fact that theoretical security guarantees,
designed based on algorithmic complexity for classical computers, are not
sufficient for quantum circuits. Many different quantum algorithms have been
developed, which have potentially broad applications on future computing
systems. However, this potential depends on the continued maturation of quantum
hardware, which remains an area of active research and development. Theoretical
limits provide an upper bound on the performance for algorithms. In practice,
threats to encryption can only be accurately be assessed in the context of the
rapidly evolving hardware and software landscape. Software co-design refers to
the concurrent design of software and hardware as a way to understand the
limitations of current capabilities and develop effective strategies to advance
the state of the art. Since the capabilities for classical computation
currently exceed quantum capabilities, quantum emulation techniques can play an
important role in the co-design process. In this paper, we describe how the
{\em cuQuantum} environment can support quantum algorithm co-design activities
using widely-available commodity hardware. We describe how emulation techniques
can be used to assess the impact of noise on algorithms of interest, and
identify limitations associated with current hardware. We present our analysis
in the context of areas of priority for cybersecurity and cryptography in
particular since these algorithms are extraordinarily consequential for
securing information in the digital world

A study on multi-criteria decision-making in powder mixed electric discharge machining cylindrical shaped parts
In life as well as in engineering, many times, it is necessary to choose the best option among many different options. That will be more difficult when the criteria given for the selection contradict each other. For example, when external cylindrical grinding, the minimum surface roughness requirement necessitates a small depth of cut and feed rate. The material removal rate will be reduced in this case, and this requirement will conflict with the maximum material removal rate requirement. To solve the above problem, a very useful tool is multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM). In this paper, for the first time, MCDM results for powder mixed discharge machining (PMEDM) cylindrical parts of SKD11 tool steel with copper electrodes have been presented. In this work, eighteen experiments with the L18 (16×53) design using the Taguchi method were conducted. Six main input process parameters include the powder concentration, the pulse current, the servo voltage, the pulse on time, and the pulse off time. To select an alternative that simultaneously ensures two criteria including minimum surface roughness (RS) and maximum material removal speed (MRS), four different MCDM methods including MAIRCA (Multi-Attributive Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis), MARCOS (Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to Compromise Solution), TOPSIS (Technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution), and EAMR (Area-based Method of Ranking) and two methods of criteria weight calculation including MEREC (Method based on the Removal Effects of Criteria) and Entropy methods were selected. The results of MCDM when PMEDM SKD11 tool steel cylindrical parts with two methods for weight determination and four methods for solving MCDM problem were evaluated. In addition, the best alternative to ensure simultaneous minimum RS and maximum MRS was proposed
Assessing local people’s satisfaction on resettlement arrangements of A Luoi Hydropower project, Thua Thien Hue Province
This study aims to estimate the level of satisfaction about resettlement arrangements for local people who have been affected by A Luoi hydroelectric construction project in the Thua Thien Hue province. This research used the Likert scale method to assess the satisfaction level of 98 households living in two of the resettlement sites. Results illustrate that there is variations in the level of satisfaction of local people in the two resettlement sites, Hong Thuong and Hong Ha. In the resettlement area (RA) of the Hong Thuong Commune, people are dissatisfied with the location arrangement. There is a lack of quality in the houses built, been damaged, cracked and degraded, since the construction design is not appropriate for the customs and practices of local people, with a satisfaction rating of 1.07. Meanwhile, at the resettlement site of the Hong Ha commune, people felt satisfied with the arrangement site of the RA and allocated residential land area with the satisfaction rating of 4.19. Our results will help the government, as well as the project owners, to understand the points of dissatisfaction of local people in order to have accordant solutions, ensuring the stable life for local people in those settlement areas.
