アメリカの心理学者ジェームス・ギブソンが提唱したアフォーダンスの概念にたいする古典的な批判のひとつに、人工的、社会的なものには適用できないとするものがある。この小論は、その批判に応ずるべく、アフォーダンスの概念をいまいちど精査したうえで、ありうべき回答を探るものである。まず、アフォーダンスの概念の根底にある、ギブソンの基本の考えを確認する。ついで、アフォーダンスの特異性をしめすために、それを傾向性として捉える。最後にアフォーダンスの概念にたいする批判のどれもが、ギブソンの理論を不用意に読むことから生ずるものであることをしめす。この小論は、これまで不当に狭められてきた、ギブソンのエコロジカルな心理学説を、正しく再評価するものとなろう。One of the classical criticisms against the concept of affordance advocated by the American psychologist James Gibson is that it cannot be applied to artificial or social entities. In order to respond to the criticism, I scrutinize the concept of affordance and find reasonable answers. I begin by describing the basic ideas of Gibson underlying the concept of affordance. I then consider affordance as a kind of disposition to show its peculiarity. Lastly, I demonstrate that all of the criticisms are derived from a careless reading of Gibson’s theory. This paper will rightly reevaluate the Gibson’s ecological theory hitherto suffering from an undue underestimation.論
