Linpack evaluation on a supercomputer with heterogeneous accelerators

Abstract—We report Linpack benchmark results on the TSUBAME supercomputer, a large scale heterogeneous system equipped with NVIDIA Tesla GPUs and ClearSpeed SIMD accelerators. With all of 10,480 Opteron cores, 640 Xeon cores, 648 ClearSpeed accelerators and 624 NVIDIA Tesla GPUs, we have achieved 87.01TFlops, which is the third record as a heterogeneous system in the world. This paper describes careful tuning and load balancing method required to achieve this performance. On the other hand, since the peak speed is 163 TFlops, the efficiency is 53%, which is lower than other systems. This paper also analyses this gap from the aspect of system architecture. I

Characteristics of Novel Triplet Spun Yarns Made from Fibers of Differing Fineness

In order to reduce the hairiness of ring spun yarns and to develop novel multilayered spun yarns, we investigated the properties of triplet spun yams made from the same size of three rovings with different fiber fineness using an experimental ring spinning frame. The results were: (1) different fiber fineness triplet spun yarn, a new yarn made by combination staple fibers of three different fineness into one twisting process; (2) although triplet spun yarn had a side-by-side structure in the cross-section, the central angle made by the assembly of finer fibers was smaller than that of coarser fibers; and (3) in comparison with single yam, triplet spun yarn had less hairiness and greater strength because of the lower spinning tension of each strand and the twist propagation in each strand.ArticleTEXTILE RESEARCH JOURNAL. 79(10):947-952 (2009)journal articl

Demand for weekend outpatient chemotherapy among patients with cancer in Japan

    Get PDF
Background Advanced cancer therapeutics have improved patient survival, leading to an increase in the number of patients who require long-term outpatient chemotherapy. However, the available schedule options for chemotherapy are generally limited to traditional business hours. Method In 2017, we surveyed 721 patients with cancer in Okayama, Japan, regarding their preferences for evening and weekend (Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday) chemotherapy appointments. Results A preference for evening and weekend appointment options was indicated by 37% of the respondents. Patients who requested weekend chemotherapy were younger, female, with no spouse or partner, living alone, employed, and currently receiving treatment. Among these factors, age and employment status were significantly associated with a preference for weekend chemotherapy, according to multivariate analysis. Conclusion Our findings reveal a demand for evening and weekend outpatient chemotherapy, especially among young, employed patients

Identification of principal factors of fabric aesthetics by the evaluation from experts on textiles and from untrained consumers

One of the important end-use performance measures of fabrics and other textile products is the handle, which measures the quality of fabrics as evaluated by reactions obtained not only tactilely but also visually. The well-known Kawabata Evaluation System includes both an objective evaluation and a prediction method of the handle. However, objective evaluations of the handle based on a visual perception of fabric aesthetics have not been investigated systematically. Thus, as the first step of a systematic study, we attempted to carry out a sensory evaluation of fabric aesthetics by experts on textile and untrained consumers using worsted and spun silk woven fabrics, which have different material effect and structural effect. Thereafter, the mean preference scores were examined by factor analysis to identify the principal factors of fabric aesthetics. From the result, it was found that two common factors-'luster and depth sensation' and 'surface roughness sensation'-were identified tentatively as the principal factors of fabric aesthetics.ArticleTEXTILE RESEARCH JOURNAL. 81(12):1216-1225 (2011)journal articl
