Hemangiosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm of endothelial origin. When manifested in the cutaneous region, clinical signs are linked to hemostatic variations, such as petechiae and hemorrhages. The definitive diagnosis is obtained by histopathological examination. Surgical management is the therapy of choice, and reconstructive techniques may be necessary depending on the location of the neoplasia. Adjuvant chemotherapy, either metronomic or conventional, can be used. An eight-year-old female, mixed-breed canine was treated with a cutaneous nodule in the abdominal ventral region. The animal was submitted to a metronomic chemotherapy protocol, due to the extension of the tumor that prevented surgical excision at first. The treatment led to cytoreduction, making the tumor excision feasible, disregarding the safety margins, in a palliative character. After surgery, the chemotherapy protocol was resumed and maintained for the next two months. The animal remained free of the disease for the following six months, undergoing periodic reviews. The present work reports the multimodal approach applied in a case of cutaneous hemangiosarcoma, achieving satisfactory quality of life and survival.O hemangiossarcoma é uma neoplasia mesenquimal maligna de origem endotelial.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to relate the main behavioral activities of naked neck broilers in response to weather conditions of the semiarid region in Northeastern Brazil. 220 Label Rouge broilers between 4 and 6 week old were evaluated in Mossoró, RN, Brazil. The thermal comfort indices used were the radiant heat load (R HL ) and enthalpy (H). Scan sampling and 1-0 observation method were used to register the animal behavior at intervals of 1 h, starting at 6 am and ending at 6 pm. The behaviors observed included: sitting or lying, spread-wings, panting, food and water intake. The coefficients of correlation (P<0.05) and conditions of normality by the Shapiro-Wilk test were performed with SAS software. For feed intake, the results showed negative correlation with only the H (r=-0.31, P=0.001). Water intake was positively correlated with R HL (r=0.24, P=0.009). The behavior spread-wings presented the highest correlations (P<0.01) with H and R HL (r=0.62 and r=0.66, respectively). The same occurred for panting and sitting or lying: R HL (r=0.62 and r=0.34) and H (r=0.58 and r=0.49), respectively with P<0.01. It is concluded that in semiarid environment, broilers actuate behavioral mechanisms in situations of heat stress, where the indices studied were effective in predicting behavioral responses

Vertical zonation and functional diversity of fish assemblages revealed by ROV videos at oil platforms in The Gulf

An assessment of vertical distribution, diel migration, taxonomic and functional diversity of fishes was carried out at offshore platforms in The (Arabian-Iranian-Persian) Gulf. Video footage was recorded at the Al Shaheen oil field between 2007 and 2014 using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). A total of 12 822 individual fishes, from 83 taxonomic groups were recorded around the platforms. All the species identified are considered native to The Gulf, although Cyclichthys orbicularis and Lutjanus indicus were recorded for the first time in Qatari waters. Several trends were uncovered in the vertical distribution of the fish community; most species were observed between 20 and 50 m depth and fish abundance decreased towards the bottom, with the highest abundances recorded in the upper layers, i.e. down to 40 m depth. Vertical variation in fish diversity, however, was generally not accompanied by differences in vertical movements. Carnivores and invertivores were the dominant trophic groups, being found at each depth range from surface to seabed. The functional indices showed no significant differences between water depths or diel cycles. The study demonstrates that oil platforms represent a hotspot of fish diversity and interesting sites for studying fish communities, abundance and behaviour. 2017 The Fisheries Society of the British Isleshttps://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85028453292&doi=10.1111%2fjfb.13394&partnerID=40&md5=ec2f575bd38d2fd1a716f3294519bff4Scopu

Effect of Nb doping on NiMnSn Heusler alloys: Mechanical, structural, and magnetic properties modifications

We report a systematic investigation of the mechanical, structural, and magnetic properties of Nb-doped NiMnSn Heusler alloys. Specifically, NiMnSnNb alloys with 1% at Nb doping replacing distinct elements in NiMnSn alloys are explored. Our results indicate that the modification of the structural, mechanical and magnetic properties of the Ni50Mn37Sn13 alloy, with Nb doping, presents sensitivity to the element in which its atomic composition will be reduced by the incorporation of Nb in the alloy. Our findings show an interesting route to tune specific properties according to the technological application

Genomic Variability of Hepatitis B Virus Circulating in Brazilian Western Amazon

The emergence of clinically relevant mutations in the hepatitis B virus (HBV) genome has been a matter of great debate because of the possibility of escape from the host’s immune system, the potential to cause more severe progression of liver diseases and the emergence of treatment-resistant variants. Here we characterized the circulating variants of HBV in Rondônia State, in the north of Brazil. Serum samples of 62 chronic HBV carriers were subjected to PCR assays and clinical data were collected. Mutations and genotypes were characterized through direct sequencing. The findings show the presence of subgenotypes A1 (54.83%, 34/62), D3 (16.13%, 10/62), F2 (16.13%, 10/62), A2 (4.84%, 3/62), D2 (3.23%, 2/62), D1 (1.61%, 1/62), D4 (1.61%, 1/62) and F4 (1.61%, 1/62). Deletions in the pre-S2 region were found in 13.79% (8/58) of the samples, mutations in the S gene in 59.68% (37/62) and RT mutations in 48.39% (30/62). We found a variable genotypic distribution in different locations and important mutations related to immune escape and drug resistance in Western Amazonia, which contributed to genetic surveillance and provided important information to help control the disease
