The Faculty Flutie Factor: Does Football Performance Affect a University’s US News and World Report Peer Assessment Score?

Analyzing the peer assessment portion of the US News and World Report’s college rankings, we find that administrators and faculty rate more highly universities whose football team receives a greater number of votes in either the final Associated Press or Coaches Poll. Controlling for unobserved heterogeneity, our estimates suggest that a one standard deviation increase in the number of votes received in either the Associated Press or USA Today Coaches’ Football Poll is viewed as positively as a forty point increase in a school’s SAT score at the 75th percentile

Field experiments with 11 native maize hybrids for grain production FAO maturity group 400-600 were set up over two years at two sites (near the villages of Brzan and Lužnice, Kragujevac municipality) with the aim of, based on the yield over years, recommending hybrids for specific agroecological conditions. The average maize grain yield for all hybrids in 2017 was 4.2 t ha-1, and in 2018 11.1 t ha-1. Hybrids ZP 548 and NS 5051 had the highest average grain yield in 2017, and in 2018 ZP 560 and NS 4051. Higher yields in 2018 are mainly the result of a larger amount and a more favorable distribution of precipitation in the vegetation period. In both years, which differed in agrometeorological conditions during the vegetation period, especially in the amount and distribution of precipitation in the second part of the vegetation, in which the critical phases of maize development take place, the highest yields were recorded mainly in FAO 500 hybrids.Publishe

This paper studied the variability of tree height, grain yield and protein content in different varieties of spring barley. Analyzed characteristics are varied when the investigated barley varieties. Average values of tree height varied from 75.6 cm (itinerary) to 83.0 cm by a cultivar of barley novosadski 488. The highest average yield was achieved double-row spring barley Viktor (5482 kg ha-1) and the lowest average grain yield achieved double-row spring barley novosadski 488 (4890 kg ha-1). The average height of the trees was 79.4 cm. Average grain yield was 5130 kg ha-1.

Organic agriculture as a production system based on ecological production, soil biological activity, biodiversity conservation and use of natural substances and processes is the only certified food production in Serbia. This system provides users of organic products with a guarantee that the end product is the result of consistent farming practices. Since 2010, three laws and a number of regulations underlying the development of this food production system have been adopted. The global organic market has seen a continuous rise in demand for organic products, whereas a relatively slight increase in their supply from organic crop growing areas of Serbia has been recorded. Reasons for the insufficient farmers' interest in organic agriculture include lack of information, lack of intermediate goods, fear of change and, very often, underestimation by conventional producers and professional agrarian circles. An important part of the mosaic-like fear of organic farming among producers is lack of knowledge regarding weed control methods in this production concept. As with other elements of organic farming practices, the basis for weed control rests on preventive action, as well as on direct methods of eliminating undesirable plants from agricultural biotopes.

Articular cartilage is a soft tissue with depth-dependent structure and composition that covers the ends of bones in diarthrodial joints. It transmits loads between bones and minimizes joint wear. The purpose of this work was to implement a large deformation nonlinear model for biological tissues with statistically oriented reinforcing fibres, using a biphasic formulation to model global articular cartilage behaviour. The implemented model takes into account the effect of the depth-dependent variation in the collagen fibre orientation and the influence of the collagen fibres on the overall permeability of the tissue. This model was implemented using Finite Element software to determine the depth-dependent deformation of articular cartilage. In addition, a separate investigation was conducted to determine the remodelling of the fibres in statistically oriented fibre reinforced materials as a response to an externally applied loading, using an arterial sample
