Cryopreservation of sheathed third-stage larvae of Nematodirus spathiger
A technique for the cryopreservation of sheathed third-stage larvae of Nematodirus spathiger is described.
It consists of incubating larvae in 5% (v/v) ethylene glycol for 20 min at room temperature,
followed by 1 min of incubation in 40% (v/v) ethylene glycol at 0°C. The average recovery of adult worms
was 28,5% for two adult sheep infected with these larvae.The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

An improved technique for the cryopreservation of Gaigeria pachyscelis (Sandveld hookworm)
A technique for the cryopreservation of third-stage larvae of Gaigeria pachyscelis is described. It consists of incubating sheathed infective larvae at 37°C in 40% (v/v) ethylene glycol for 7 min, followed by 2 min at 0°C in 82,8% (v/v) cryoprotectant mixture, prior to transferring the larvae to liquid nitrogen. The survival rate obtained with this technique is consistently high: 69,1% as assessed by motility.The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

Cryopreservation of sheathed third-stage larvae of Ancylostoma caninum (hookworm of dogs) and Ancylostoma tubaeforme (hookworm of cats)
Sheathed infective third-stage larvae of Ancylostoma caninum and Ancylostoma tubaeforme were
successfully cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen. The survival rates, as assessed by motility, were A.

Cryopreservation of sheathed third-stage larvae of Gaigeria pachyscelis (Sandveld hookworm)
A technique for the cryopreservation of third stage larvae of Gaigeria pachyscelis is described. It consists of incubating sheathed third-stage larvae in 80% (v/v) ethylene glycol as a cryoprotectant for 30 s at 0°C, prior to transfer into liquid nitrogen. The survival rate, as assessed by motility, was 37,6% after 30 d cryopreservation. A sheep infected percutaneously with 700 live cryopreserved third-stage larvae, harboured 41 adult worms (infectivity rate: 5,8%) when necropsied 78 d later.The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

A technique for the cryopreservation of third-stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris is described. Infective
larvae of S. vulgaris were exsheathed in a 0,16% sodium hypochlorite solution and then transferred
into cryotubes containing 0,09% saline. The samples were stored in the gas phase of liquid

Radiolabelled adult Haemonchus contortus obtained from eggs voided in the faeces of a sheep injected with ⁵⁹Fe
The infective larvae of Haemonchus contortus (L3) obtained from an artificially infected sheep injected
with 125 µCi of ⁵⁹Fe, incorporated the isotope and retained it in sufficient quantities to be detectable by
autoradiography in the adult worms which developed.
This is apparently the first report of incorporation of ⁵⁹Fe into adult helminths, of which the L3 originated
