Charge-transfer induced surface conductivity for a copper based inorganic-organic hybrid
Inorganic-organic hybrids are receiving increasing attention as they offer the opportunity to combine the robust properties of inorganic materials with the versatility of organic compounds. We have studied the electric properties of an inorganic-organic hybrid with the chemical formula: CuCl4(C6H5CH2CH2NH3)2. This material is a ferromagnetic insulator that can easily be processed from solution. We show that the surface conductivity of the hybrid can be increased by five orders of magnitude by covering the surface with an organic electron donor. This constitutes a novel method to dope perovskite-based materials and study their charge transport properties.
DSEARCH: sensitive database searching using distributed computing
Summary: We present a distributed and fully cross-platform database search program that allows the user to utilise the idle clock cycles of machines to perform large searches using the most sensitive algorithms. For those in an academic or corporate environment with hundreds
of idle desktop machines, DSEARCH can deliver a âfreeâ database search supercomputer.

Empirically based assessment and taxonomy of psychopathology: Cross-cultural applications. A review
This paper provides an overview of empirically based assessment and taxonomy, as illustrated by cross-cultural research on psychopathology. The empirically based approach uses standardized assessment procedures to score behavioral and emotional problems from which syndromes are derived by multivariate analyses. Items and syndromes are scored quantitatively to reflect the degree to which individuals manifest them, as reported by particular informants. Although the approach to assessing problems and to constructing taxonomic groupings differs from the ICD/DSM approach, there are no inherent contradictions between either their models for disorders nor the criterial features used to define disorders. Cross-cultural comparisons have yielded relatively small differences in problem rates and syndrome structure, plus considerable similarity in associations of problems with sex and SES, as well as similar correlations between reports by different types of informants. Research on variations in problems in relation to culture, sex, age, SES, and type of informant can contribute to improving both the ICD/DSM and empirically based approaches and to a more effective synthesis between them
Bi-cropping of winter wheat and white clover.
End of Project ReportGrowing cereals in a leguminous living mulch (bi-cropping) could potentially
reduce the need for synthetic inputs to cereal production while preventing losses
of nutrients and increasing soil biological activity. The objective of this project
was to investigate how bi-cropping (a low input production system for cereals)
would compare with conventional winter wheat production systems in terms of
total biomass, grain yield and biological diversity. This study has resulted in valuable information on bi-cropping being generated as
well as identifying the potential benefits that can be expected under Irish
conditions. While the results indicate that winter wheat can be successfully
established in an understorey of white clover if sown early in good conditions,
competition from grass weed species represents a serious impediment to successful bi-cropping in the longer term. Consequently further research is
needed before such a system can be presented to the agricultural community.European Union Framework Programm
A 2:1 cocrystal of 6,13-dihydropentacene and pentacene
6,13-Dihydropentacene and pentacene cocrystallize in a ratio of 2:1, i.e. C22H16·0.5C22H14, during vapour transport of commercial pentacene in a gas flow. The crystal structure is monoclinic, space group P21/n, and contains one dihydropentacene molecule and half a pentacene molecule in the asymmetric unit.
