Thoreau\u27s Civil Disobedience: A Reassessment
Thoreau’s case is easy in one sense and difficult in another. One of the chief attractions of Civil Disobedience, and one of its necessary limitations, lies in its prophetic quality. Recent American history has confirmed Thoreau’s good judgment in abhorring state-supported racism and a questionable war. But in sympathizing with his outrage over these conditions, we are spared the difficult test to our forbearance that arises when others dissent against issues that lack the persuasive moral justification of Thoreau’s case. So in this respect at least, Thoreau presents a comparatively easy case. His case is difficult in that he minimizes the problem which makes civil disobedience interesting in the first place. That is, Thoreau does not present himself as a genuinely loyal citizen for whom civil disobedience is a difficult act fraught with the pain that gives it moral persuasiveness. Thoreau’s solution to the age-old problem of what to do when one can no longer be both a good person and a good citizen is to deny the problem. For Thoreau, one is always an individual before he is a citizen

A History Of The Louisiana Shrimp Industry, 1867-1961
In the latter half of the nineteenth century the Louisiana shrimp industry began in Barataria Bay when canning and drying operations raised shrimping from a local business venture to a small-scale localized industry. The purpose of this study is to trace the economic development of the industry from 1867 through its various stages of growth to the present. Publications of federal and state conservation agencies and personal interviews provided the principal sources of information for this study.
Eighty-six years after its founding the shrimp industry became the most import United States fishery. This was due largely to technological improvements in the production of shrimp and the corresponding growth of initial processed shrimp forms to utilize the increased catch in expanding markets. Shortly after the trawl replaced the seine and led to larger catches, the marketing of shrimp in headless form created new outlets. When offshore discoveries of shrimp expanded production, frozen shrimp became an important marketing form to supply the growing demand throughout the United States. The key to the industry’s future seems to be expansion into new fishing grounds, revitalization of the grounds which have produced sparingly in recent years, and curbing growing imports

Dissolution Kinetics of Alumina Calcine
Dissolution kinetics of alumina type non-radioactive calcine was investigated as part of ongoing research that addresses permanent disposal of Idaho High Level Waste (HLW). Calcine waste was produced from the processing of nuclear fuel at the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center (INTEC). Acidic radioactive raffinates were solidified at ~500°C in a fluidized bed reactor to form the dry granular calcine material. Several Waste Management alternatives for the calcine are presented in the Idaho High Level Waste Draft EIS. The Separations Alternative addresses the processing of the calcine so that the HLW is ready for removal to a national geological repository by the year 2035. Calcine dissolution is the key front-end unit operation for the separations alternative
Aerosol loading over the South African Highveld
The Highveld region of South Africa contributes substantially to the aerosol loading
over southern Africa because of its importance as an industrial, mining and farming
base. Aerosols affect climate by absorbing or reflecting incoming solar radiation, and
by affecting cloud microphysics, cloud albedo and precipitation. The physical and
optical properties of industrial/urban aerosols over the Highveld region of
South Africa were analysed during a 32-day winter sampling period (21 May to
21 June) in 2002; a 32-day summer sampling period (21 October to 21 November) in
2002, and a second 32-day winter sampling period (19 May to 19 June) in 2003.
Synoptic circulation systems were examined in as far as they affect the horizontal
transport of aerosols over the Highveld region. Measurements of aerosol optical
thickness (AOT) from the ground to the top of the atmosphere and aerosol size
distribution characteristics over the Highveld region were taken using hand-held
hazemeters and a CIMEL sun photometer. The AOT observed over the region during
the winter 2002 and 2003 sampling periods and during the summer 2002 sampling
period indicated high turbidity. In the 2002 winter sampling period, the AOT530nm
ranged between 0.05 to 0.7 with an average of 0.14. In the 2002 summer sampling
period, the AOT530nm ranged between 0.05 to 0.6, with an average of 0.24. In the
2003 winter sampling period, the AOT500nm ranged between 0.06 to 0.6, with an
average of 0.21. The Ångström exponent value had a wide range, 0.8 to 2.4 in the 2002 winter and summer sampling periods and also in the 2003 winter sampling
period, indicating that a range of particle sizes was present over the Highveld region.
The Ångström exponent values obtained were derived from the influences of Aeolian
dust, coarse-mode industrial particles and, to a small extent, fine-mode biomassburning
aerosols. Case studies, based on trajectory analysis and meteorology of the
sampling area, were made of the aerosols emanating from the township sites during
each of the three sampling periods to observe the build-up and dispersion of aerosols

membuat pemain jadi mudah lelah.

Tank Farm WM-182 and WM 183 Heel Slurry Samples PSD Results
Particle size distribution (PSD) analysis of INTEC Tank Farm WM-182 and WM-183 heel slurry samples were performed using a modified Horiba LA-300 PSD analyzer at the RAL facility. There were two types of testing performed: typical PSD analysis, and setting rate testing. Although the heel slurry samples were obtained from two separate vessels, the particle size distribution results were quite similar. The slurry solids were from approximately a minimum particle size of 0.5 mm to a maximum of 230 mm-with about 90% of the material between 2-to-133 mm, and the cumulative 50% value at approximately 20 mm. This testing also revealed that high frequency sonication with an ultrasonic element may break-up larger particles in the WM-182 and WM-183 tank from heel slurries. This finding represents useful information regarding ultimate tank heel waste processing. Settling rate testing results were also fairly consistent with material from both vessels in that it appears that most of the mass of solids settle to an agglomerated, yet easily redispersed layer at the bottom. A dispersed and suspended material remained in the "clear" layer above the settled layer after about one-half an hour of settling time. This material had a statistical mode of approximately 5 mm and a maximum particle size of 30 mm
