Modelling and analysing user views of telecommunications services
User views of calls are modelled by behaviour trees, which are synchronised to form a network of users. High level presentations of the models are given using process algebra and an explicit theory of features, including precedences. These precedences abstractly encapsulate the possible state spaces which result from different combinations of features.
The high level presentation supports incremental development of features and testing and experimentation through animation. Interactions which are not detected during the experimentation phase may be found through static analysis of the high level presentation, through dynamic analysis of the under-lying low level transition system, and through verification of temporal properties through model-checking. In each case, interactions are resolved through manipulation of the feature precedences
The applications of deep neural networks to sdBV classification
With several new large-scale surveys on the horizon, including LSST, TESS,
ZTF, and Evryscope, faster and more accurate analysis methods will be required
to adequately process the enormous amount of data produced. Deep learning, used
in industry for years now, allows for advanced feature detection in minimally
prepared datasets at very high speeds; however, despite the advantages of this
method, its application to astrophysics has not yet been extensively explored.
This dearth may be due to a lack of training data available to researchers.
Here we generate synthetic data loosely mimicking the properties of acoustic
mode pulsating stars and we show that two separate paradigms of deep learning -
the Artificial Neural Network And the Convolutional Neural Network - can both
be used to classify this synthetic data effectively. And that additionally this
classification can be performed at relatively high levels of accuracy with

Caultron of Unwisdom: The Legislative Offensive on Insidious Foreign Influence in the Third Term of President Vladimir V. Putin, and ICCPR Recourse for Affect Civil Advocates
Part I discusses Russian and international statutory law. It briefly outlines the structure of the government of the Russian Federation and discusses relevant articles of its Constitution. It then illustrates the legislative trend in question by discussing select legislation passed and proposed during President Putin’s third term that seeks to restrict non-Russian influence in Russian society. Part I closes with a discussion of Russia’s international human rights obligations, and the international redress available to Russian nationals affected by the laws in question. Part II considers the practical application of the laws discussed in Part I. This includes an examination of potential procedural issues relating to the complaint process a Russian national would have to navigate at one of the international human rights tribunals or treaty bodies founded under the conventions. Additionally, Part II briefly outlines international jurisprudence relevant to the prospect of Russian nationals’ success before the United Nations Human Rights Committee. Based on the interplay between the federal statutes in question and Russia’s international human rights obligations, this Note asserts in Part III that Russian nationals should file complaints to the UN Human Rights Committee. The Note also advocates for a progressive change to Russia’s domestic civil-political environment. But in the absence of such a change, individuals affected by the legislation in question can seek recourse through the Committee’s individual complaint mechanism. Those petitioning would ideally include the heads of targeted civil society and human rights monitoring and advocacy groups
Maximum speed of hypervelocity stars ejected from binaries
The recent detection of hypervelocity stars (HVSs) as late-type B-stars and
HVS candidate G/K-dwarfs raises the important question of their origin. In this
Letter, we investigate the maximum possible velocities of such HVSs if they are
produced from binaries which are disrupted via an asymmetric supernova
explosion. We find that HVSs up to ~770 and ~1280 km/s are possible in the
Galactic rest frame from this scenario for these two subclasses of HVSs,
respectively. We conclude that whereas a binary origin cannot easily explain
all of the observed velocities of B-type HVSs (in agreement with their proposed
central massive black hole origin) it can indeed account for the far majority
(if not all) of the recently detected G/K-dwarf HVS candidates.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, including appendix, in press, MNRAS Letters
