Keywords: correlation, habit in watching English movie with English subtitle, descriptive writing skill Writing descriptive text requires someone to pay attention to some aspects such as content, organization, vocabulary, grammar and mechanics to avoid ambiguity and misunderstanding of meaning between writer and reader. Moreover, to be able to describe a person, place or thing, someone must have a broad knowledge especially knowledge about the thing being described. This could come from being exposed to authentic material such as English movie. Movies can serve as the basis for writing especially when they are combined with various movie resources, they can help boosting ideas in writing descriptive text. Furthermore, watching English movie with English subtitle may improve their comprehension of the language being used rather than only listening to it. The formulation of the research problem was “How is the correlation between habit in watching English movie with English subtitle and ability in writing descriptive text of EFL learners?” The objective of this research was to find out the correlation between habit in watching English movie with English subtitle and ability in writing descriptive text of EFL learners. The researcher used correlational design with quantitative approach. The population was EFL learners who have learned descriptive writing in formal education university level in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the sample of this research selected through purposive sampling technique was 19 learners. The research instruments were questionnaire and writing test. The data of this research was analysed by using Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient in Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.0. The result of this research showed that the mean score of learners’ habit in in watching English movie with English subtitle is 74.8421. This means that the learners’ habit in watching English movie with English subtitle is considered good. Meanwhile, the mean score of descriptive writing test is 76.2632 which is considered good as well. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient (r) between the two variables is 0.446 which means the correlation of both variables is moderate and it has positive correlation. However, the hypothesis testing resulted in p-value 0.056. It means that the null hypothesis is not rejected. Finally, it can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between habit in watching English movie with English subtitle and ability in writing descriptive text of EFL learners. This indicates that EFL learners who have habit in watching English movie with English subtitle do not necessarily have good ability in writing descriptive text
