Measurement of the semileptonic b branching ratios from inclusive leptons in Z decays
From about 1.3 million hadronic Z decays collected with the ALEPH Detector in 1992 and 1993 inclusive muons and electrons have been analysed to measure the semileptonic branching ratios for primary and cascade decays. The analyses take advantage of the high purity sample obtained using lifetime tagging. A fit to the P_perp spectra gives the preliminary results stat syst models BR(b->l) = 0.1101 +/- 0.0010 +/- 0.0021 +0.0024-0.0017 BR(b->c->l) = 0.0768 +/- 0.0018 +/- 0.0031 +0.0034-0.0043 The model dependence has been reduced by using charge correlations in the event rather than fits to the P_perp spectra. A preliminary value of stat syst models BR(b->l) = 0.1101 +/- 0.0023 +/- 0.0028 +/- 0.0011 has been obtained
Precision Electroweak Measurements at FCC-ee
AbstractThe prospects for electroweak precision measurements at the Future Circular Collider with electron-positron beams (FCC-ee) are discussed. The Z mass and width, as well as the value of the electroweak mixing angle, can be measured with very high precision at the Z pole thanks to an instantaneous luminosity five to six order of magnitudes larger than LEP. At centre-of-mass energies around 160 GeV, corresponding to the WW production threshold, the W mass can be determined very precisely with high-statistics cross section measurements at several energy points. Similarly, a very precise determination of the top mass can be provided by an energy scan at the tt⟠production threshold, around 350 GeV
Data Preservation at LEP
The four LEP experiments ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL successfully recorded
e+e- collision data during the years 1989 to 2000. As part of the ordinary
evolution in High Energy Physics, these experiments can not be repeated and
their data is therefore unique. This article briefly reviews the data
preservation efforts undertaken by the four experiments beyond the end of data
taking. The current status of the preserved data and associated tools is
summarised.Comment: 7 pages, contribution to proceedings of the "First Workshop on Data

QCD corrections to the forward-backward asymmetries of and quarks at the Z pole
Measurements of the forward-backward production asymmetry of heavy quarks in Z decays provide a precise determination of \swsqeffl . The asymmetries are sensitive to QCD effects, in particular hard gluon radiation. In this paper QCD corrections for \AFBbb~ and \AFBcc~ are discussed. The interplay between the experimental techniques used to measure the asymmetries and the QCD effects is investigated using simulated events. A procedure to estimate the correction needed for experimental measurements is proposed, and some specific examples are given
Selection of Single Top Events with the CMS Detector at LHC
The detection of single-top events with CMS is discussed. Two selections are proposed, aimed to measure single top production in the Standard Model t- and s-channel, respectively. The perspectives of the measurements for an integrated luminosity of 10 fb-1 are described. The results are based on detailed detector simulations, either based on GEANT4, or on faster techniques. The reconstruction procedures developed by the CMS Collaboration are utilized
Search for CP Violation in the Decay Z -> b (b bar) g
About three million hadronic decays of the Z collected by ALEPH in the years
1991-1994 are used to search for anomalous CP violation beyond the Standard
Model in the decay Z -> b \bar{b} g. The study is performed by analyzing
angular correlations between the two quarks and the gluon in three-jet events
and by measuring the differential two-jet rate. No signal of CP violation is
found. For the combinations of anomalous CP violating couplings, and , limits of \hat{h}_b < 0.59h^{\ast}_{b} < 3.02$ are given at 95\% CL.Comment: 8 pages, 1 postscript figure, uses here.sty, epsfig.st
A Combination of Preliminary Electroweak Measurements and Constraints on the Standard Model, 1996
This note presents a combination of published and preliminary electroweak results from the four LEP collaborations and the SLD collaboration which were prepared for the 1996 summer conferences. Averages of the results concerning electroweak physics are presented. They are derived from the measurements of hadronic and leptonic cross sections, the leptonic forward-backward asymmetries, the polarisation asymmetries, the \bb and \cc partial widths and forward-backward asymmetries and the \qq charge asymmetry. Almost every measurement including the LEP beam energy calibration has been updated with respect to the summer 1995 conferences. The results are compared to precise electroweak measurements from other experiments. The parameters of the Standard Model are evaluated, first using the combined LEP electroweak measurements, and then using the full set of precise electroweak results
