TeV Scale Mirage Mediation and Natural Little SUSY Hierarchy
TeV scale mirage mediation has been proposed as a supersymmetry breaking
scheme reducing the fine tuning for electroweak symmetry breaking in the
minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. We discuss a moduli
stabilization set-up for TeV scale mirage mediation which allows an
extra-dimensional interpretation for the origin of supersymmetry breaking and
naturally gives an weak-scale size of the Higgs B-parameter. The set-up
utilizes the holomorphic gauge kinetic functions depending on both the heavy
dilaton and the light volume modulus whose axion partners are assumed to be
periodic fields. We also examine the low energy phenomenology of TeV scale
mirage mediation, particularly the constraints from electroweak symmetry
breaking and FCNC processes.Comment: 44 pages, 14 figures; added references, extended discussions in

Growing and In-Situ Processing of Cells on BEEM Capsule Caps for Scanning Electron Microscopy
A simple technique for processing cells grown on BEEM capsule caps for scanning electron microscopic (SEM) observation is described. The cells adhere to a substratum on the inner surface of caps coated with either an egg white-polyvinylpyrrolidone solution or a polylysine solution in the case of eukaryotic cells and an agar solution in the case of bacteria. The adhering cells are cultured and then processed in situ for SEM observation. Electron micrographs revealed details of the shape of the cells growing on the surface of the substrate. The technique seems to be particularly well suited for observing sequential morphological changes of cells, bacteria, and protozoa cultured under a specified experimental condition as well as of interactions between cells and parasitic microorganisms
Measurement and control of spatial qubits generated by passing photons through double-slits
We present an experimental study of the non-classical correlations of a pair
of spatial qubits formed by passing two down-converted photons through a pair
of double slits. After confirming the entanglement generated in our setup by
quantum tomography using separate measurements of the slit images and the
interference patterns, we show that the complete Hilbert space of the spatial
qubits can be accessed by measurements performed in a single plane between the
image plane and the focal plane of a lens. Specifically, it is possible to
obtain both the which-path and the interference information needed for quantum
tomography in a single scan of the transversal distribution of photon
coincidences. Since this method can easily be extended to multi-dimensional
systems, it may be a valuable tool in the application of spatial qudits to
quantum information processes.Comment: 19 pages, including 10 figures and 2 table
Activation of the Non-receptor Tyrosine Kinase cSrc in Macrophage-rich Atherosclerotic Plaques of Human Carotid Arteries
To determine the involvement of the non-receptor tyrosine kinase cSrc in plaque destabilization in carotid atherosclerosis (CAS), which is responsible for cerebral infarction, we performed quantitative and morphological detection of phosphorylated active cSrc (p-cSrc) and histopathological examination in CAS lesions. We examined carotid endarterectomy specimens obtained from 32 CAS patients. Each specimen was used for immunoblot and immunohistochemical analyses of p-cSrc, histopathological analysis, and image analysis of macrophage content. There was a strong positive correlation between cSrc activation on blots and macrophage content on sections. When we defined the macrophage-rich plaque (MRP) and the macrophage-poor plaque (MPP) as having macrophage content more and less than 5%, respectively, the p-cSrc density and the occurrence of plaque hemorrhage and thrombus formation were significantly increased in the MRP group (n=18) compared to the MPP group (n=14). p-cSrc immunoreactivity was localized in lesional endothelial cells, macrophages, and smooth muscle cells, which contained proinflammatory substances: the upstream oxidized low density lipoprotein, tissue factor and osteopontin, and the downstream active forms of extracellular signal-activated kinase and p38 and nuclear factor-ÎşB. Our results suggest that cSrc activation in lesional cells contributes to plaque destabilization in CAS via persistent inflammation
Numerical studies on the structure of the cosmic ray electron halo in starburst galaxies
The structure of the cosmic ray electron halo of a starburst galaxy depends
strongly on the nature of galactic wind and the configuration of the magnetic
field. We have investigated these dependencies by solving numerically the
propagation of electrons originating in starburst galaxies, most likely in
supernova remnants. The calculations are made for several models for the
galactic winds and for the configuration of the magnetic fields for comparison
with observations. Our simulation of a quasi-radio halo reproduces both the
extended structure of ~ 9 kpc and the subtle hollow structure near the polar
region of the radio halo that are observed in the starburst galaxy NGC 253.
These findings suggest the existence of strong galactic wind in NGC 253.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Proceeding of the conference "The

Non-Abelian Discrete Flavor Symmetries on Orbifolds
We study non-Abelian flavor symmetries on orbifolds, and .
Our extra dimensional models realize , , and

their subgroups such as , , etc. The flavor symmetry can be
realized on both and orbifolds.Comment: 16 page
Heat Stroke as a Cause of Liver Failure and Evaluation of Liver Transplant
Heat stroke is a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome of poorly understood pathogenesis. Exertional heat stroke with acute liver failure is a rarely reported condition. Liver transplant has been recommended as treatment in cases of severe liver dysfunction; however, there are only 5 described cases of long-term survival after this procedure in patients with heat stroke. Here, we present 2 cases of young athletes who developed heat stroke. Both patients developed acute liver failure and were listed for liver transplant. Liver function tests of one patient improved, and he was discharged on postoperative day 13. The other patient showed no signs of improvement and liver biopsy showed massive necrosis. The patient underwent combined kidney-liver transplant and was discharged on postoperative day 17. After a follow-up of longer than 6 years, both patients are doing well with normal liver function and no neurologic sequelae. We also reviewed all published cases of hepatic failure associated with heat stroke and found 9 published cases of liver transplant for heat stroke in the English literature. Conservative management appears to be justified in heat stroke-associated liver failure, even in the presence of accepted criteria for emergency liver transplant
Soft supersymmetry breaking terms from A4 lepton flavor symmetry
We study the supersymmetric model with the A4 lepton flavor symmetry, in
particular soft supersymmetry breaking terms, which are predicted from the A4
lepton flavor symmetry. We evaluate soft slepton masses and A-terms within the
framework of supergravity theory. Constraints due to experiments of flavor
changing neutral current processes are examined.Comment: minor modification, 17page
