    >p>The Soviet Union's trade with France is of long standing. Even before the First World War there was extensive demand in France for such Russian goods as grain, manganese ore, oil products, flax, and furs. Russia bought French machinery, equipment, ferrous and nonferrous metals, wool and other items. Russian-French trade was fostered by the fact that their export items were non-competitive.>/p>>p>These traditional trade ties created the prerequisites for French trade with the young Soviet republic. Considering the mutual interest of both countries in trade, the Soviet Union tried to extend its trade ties with France.>/p>
