Ascertaining Users’ Attitude towards Information Technology Application: a comparative study of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and Punjabi University, Patiala
The present study was carried out to ascertain the attitude of library users towards information technology applications in two university libraries, viz. Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and Punjabi University, Patiala. Survey method of research was used based on random sampling. 391 responses were collected from three user categories, i.e., PG Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members in the faculties of Social Sciences and Sciences. Five departments from each faculty were taken further to attain more insight into users\u27 attitude. The simple percentage, Chi-square test, and Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze the data collected through a structured questionnaire. The study reveals that despite having constraints of in-house training facilities and minimal involvement of end-users in the decision-making of IT incorporation, there is positive attitude among the users. In conclusion, the study offers a few suggestions for the success of future IT initiatives

Chondroblastoma of the anterior process of calcaneus: a case report:
Chondroblastoma of the calcaneus is a fairly uncommon tumour. Despite being a benign and indolent lesion, chondroblastoma of the calcaneus can lead to functional limitations, due to its location in such a weight-bearing bone. This report presents a rare case of chondroblastoma affecting the anterior process of the calcaneus, which was successfully treated with extended curettage and synthetic bone graft substitute, resulting in favourable functional outcomes at 13 months post-surgery. This case underscores the importance of timely recognition and appropriate management of this uncommon tumour to achieve optimal patient outcomes
PASSION Runtime Library for Parallel I/O
We are developing a compiler and runtime support system called PASSION: Parallel And Scalable Software for Input-Output. PASSION provides software support for I/O intensive out-of-core loosely synchronous problems. This paper gives an overview of the PASSION Runtime Library and describes two of the optimizations incorporated in it, namely Data Prefetching and Data Sieving. Performance improvements provided by these optimizations on the Intel Touchstone Delta are discussed, together with an outof -core Median Filtering application. 1 Introduction There are a number of applications which deal with very large quantities of data. These applications exist in diverse areas such as large scale scientific computations, database applications, hypertext and multimedia systems, information retrieval and many other applications of the Information Age. The number of such applications and their data requirements keep increasing day by day. Consequently, it has become apparent that I/O performance ..
Calciphylaxis associated with widespread pulmonary calcification
We report a patient with Crohn’s disease and end-stage renal failure, which resulted in severe vitamin D deficiency and hyperparathyroidism. This resulted in the development of calciphylaxis, which initially manifested as pulmonary vasculature calcification; however, the diagnosis was not clear until the classic skin lesions had developed. Calciphylaxis is a rare condition, which is increasing in incidence, and a high index of suspicion is essential for early diagnosis and treatment. This condition is associated with a high degree of morbidity and mortality and, indeed, our patient died within 7 days of diagnosis
PASSION: Parallel And Scalable Software for Input-Output
We are developing a software system called PASSION: Parallel And Scalable Software for InputOutput which provides software support for high performance parallel I/O. PASSION provides support at the language, compiler, runtime as well as file system level. PASSION provides runtime procedures for parallel access to files (read/write), as well as for out-of-core computations. These routines can either be used together with a compiler to translate out-of-core data parallel programs written in a language like HPF, or used directly by application programmers. A number of optimizations such as Two-Phase Access, Data Sieving, Data Prefetching and Data Reuse have been incorporated in the PASSION Runtime Library for improved performance. PASSION also provides an initial framework for runtime support for out-of-core irregular problems. The goal of the PASSION compiler is to automatically translate outof -core data parallel programs to node programs for distributed memory machines, with calls to t..
