Changes in User Attitudes and User Expectation: A Longitudinal Study of a Thai State Owned Enterprise

    Get PDF
With a paucity of longitudinal studies done in the stream of Technology Acceptance Model, a longitudinal case study research was conducted with a large state Owned enterprise (SOE) in Thailand that has gone through an ERP implementation project. To provide a more comprehensive perspective of the process of user acceptance of ERP, data were collected from two phases of the implementation process in order to capture the change of user attitudes and user expectation and examine how these two constructs are related to intention to system usage. This study presents a prospective combining view of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the expectancy theory to examine how ERP users form their attitudes and expectations throughout the course of ERP implementation

Cognitive Styles and Accounting Information Navigation: A Preliminary Investigation

Interactive information visualization is a new research direction in the area of accounting information systems dealing with the use of technology to interactively visually represent data to enhance an individual’s ability to acquire and use knowledge. One of important topics in this line of research is the information selection and navigation. The present study follows this research direction by attempting to explore the extent to which accounting information is searched and navigated in different patterns of tasks and decision-makers. Following a quasi experiment design, a web application was developed to collect data. Participants were required to perform a task in analyzing ROA data using given financial information of an anonymous fictious firm. The treatment of this study is the navigation strategy. The results of the data analysis have shown that the decision-making performance between two cognitive styles (field-independent and field-dependent) and two navigation strategies (breadth-first and depth-first) was not statistically significantly different. Nevertheless, the time spent in identifying the correct information was found to be significantly different between the two cognitive styles; field-independent and field-dependent. This research is an initial step in investigating the influence of decision-maker characteristics and navigation strategies on the decision-making process. There is still an ample area to further investigate how information technology in information navigation could be benefit in the decision-making process

Innovative Delegation Application in Thai National Digital Identity Platform

The national digital identity platform is a robust scheme that enables individuals and entities to prove who they are to digitally access critical information or services. However, current digital identity systems do not sufficiently consider delegation between entities from the viewpoint of dynamic authorizers and permissions. This study aims to understand the pain points and expectations of end-users and service providers in the Thai national digital identity platform, to design a dynamic delegation model and develop an innovative delegation application to test user acceptance. The research utilizes semi-structured interviews with 3 digital identity experts, two focus groups, one with 6 service providers, and the other one with 6 end-users. Based on results from the data analysis and conceptual prototype design, validated by experts, the proposed prototype is practical and suitable for developing a digital delegation mobile web application that is convenient, safe, secure, and reliable utilizing blockchain technology under the Thai national digital identity platform. The technology acceptance model was used to test the application acceptance with 42 participants. The result reveals that both person and businesses intend to adopt the digital delegation mobile web application. Use cases of the application include users give their power to trusted entities and Government Agency to provide services to the citizens via the authorized delegatee

Haters Gonna Hate? How Removing Downvote Option Impacts Discussion Culture in Online Forum

    No full text
This study examines the implications of a policy to remove the downvote option from an online discussion forum. Our analysis shows that after the downvote option is removed, both the number of posts and replies significantly increase. Interestingly, the average sentiment of the replies does not change significantly, which suggests that the removal of downvote option does not necessarily lead to users expressing negative impressions in their replies instead. We also find that the frequencies of product attribute related words significantly increase after the policy change. Finally, the average Gini coefficient of topics per post significantly decreases, suggesting that the topic distribution in replies became more diverse after the policy change. The latter two results together suggest that after the policy change users tend to post replies that are richer in information content. Our findings suggest that removing the downvote option may positively influence the discussion culture on the platform

Development and validation of a rapid psychosocial well-being screening tool in patients with metastatic breast cancer

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a rapid psychosocial well-being screening tool for metastatic breast cancer patients (MBC-PsySoc-Well-being). Methods: Applying a mixed method approach, the study was conducted in two phases. Phase 1, a focus group method was employed for item development, and three focus group sessions were conducted, with patients, caregivers, and medical professionals, respectively. Phase 2, validity and reliability testing were performed. Five experts reviewed items for content validity. Construct validity, criterion-related validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability were conducted among a sample of 53 patients with metastatic breast cancer. Results: Six themes were qualitatively analyzed based on focus group participants’ responses. Eight items were then developed based on these themes. The index of Item-Objective Congruence scored by the experts ranged from 0.6 to 1.0. An exploratory factor analysis yielded three factors: Being curious and active in information seeking, Enthusiasm to return to a normal life, and Adjusting to positive lifestyle. The total scores of MBC-PsySoc-Well-being and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer’s Quality of Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) were moderately correlated (r = 0.404, P = 0.003). Cronbach’s α coefficient of the overall scale was 0.686. Pearson correlation coefficients of items between two tests within 14-day ranged from 0.410 to 0.673. Conclusion: This study represents an initiative to develop a rapid psychosocial well-being screening tool for patients with metastatic breast cancer. The results from validity and reliability testing indicate that the scale is moderately suitable for application to patients with metastatic breast cancer. However, a larger scale study should be further administered to confirm the validity and reliability of the measurement
