Social media are considered as one of the most significant data source of modern times. Among numerous industries affected by social media impact, tourism emerges as one of the key sectors where social media are progressively relevant. It has the impact on both destinations and enterprises. Data analytic systems help us to make smarter, data-driven decisions. Now that smartphones are broadly used, analytics systems are developed as mobile applications. The main objective of this paper is to examine the increasing role of the social media data analytics in tourism by presenting the case study on country tourism offices of Slovenia and Croatia. Both descriptive statistics and content analysis were used in order to explore, interpret and compare insights from social media provided by data analytics mobile application. Assorted practical implications have revealed from the study report, such as suggestions for content and the time and day of publishing in order to get higher engagement. Furthermore, no one, to the best of our knowledge, conducted similar research, so the paper contributes to the theoretical development of the field as well. With disruptive innovations as a key factor, CE has is reformulated strategies and methods of traditional global commerce and created new opportunities. Tourism and hospitality are the industries in which is CE used the most, especially at arranging accommodation and transportation. CE usage in tourism has been compared to the frequency of internet usage of individuals in European countries to extract knowledge on factors which may influence on CE usage in European countries. In most countries, the percentage of CE usage in tourism is extensively increasing, which indicates that European travellers have recognised the benefits of CE practices such as more personalised offer and diversification. Results showed a correlation between CE usage in tourism frequency of internet usage and the level of digital skills for individuals from European. That could suggest that the biggest issue for CE development in European countries is poverty and infrastructure. Future research should focus on the empirical testing the correlation of the variables as well as extracting themes for CE usage in order to identify the factor of success in a specific country. Get PDF
Background: Information and communication technologies (ICTs) gained prevalent organizational and structural value in the modern economy. E-commerce is one of the sectors directly influenced by technological change. However, not all countries have the same opportunities to develop e-commerce growth; there are significant discrepancies in ICT utilization worldwide, known as the digital divide. Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to explore the level of difference among European countries regarding the e-commerce functionalities in their enterprises using a cluster analysis. Methods/Approach: To accomplish the paper goal, the k-means cluster analysis was conducted on the Eurostat data from 2019. Enterprises from 28 European countries were taken into consideration. The Kruskal-Wallis test is used to explore if the differences among clusters regarding the digital development, measured by the Digital Economy and Society Index are significant. Results: The investigation confirmed that there are significant differences among European countries regarding the development of e-commerce. However, a similar level of e-commerce is not related to economic and digital development. Conclusions: Since the relationship between economic development and e-commerce development in European countries is not linear, country-level policies are likely to be significant factors driving e-commerce development, which leads to the need for further investigation of this issue

    Get PDF
Presentation skills are one of the most important tools that are required on numerous occasions in education and business. In most of the business and economics colleagues, presentation skills are taught as part of the curriculum, of at least several courses. Therefore, it could be expected that presentation skills would be highly developed among business and economics students. However, in practice, people develop numerous fears and barriers to the presentation in public. On the other hand, students do not behave in the same manner taking into account their fear towards the presentation in public. The goal of the paper is to investigate if there are homogenous groups of students according to their attitude towards the presentation, both as sources of success and as a source of fear. Cluster analysis has been employed to fulfil the paper goal. Non-hierarchical k-means analysis has been conducted on data collected by the research instrument about the benefits and fears from the presentations on the sample of students enrolled in business and economics colleagues. Results indicate that there are homogenous groups of students according to presentation perceived benefits and fears, but the composition of these groups indicates that perceived benefits and fears of presentations are not always related in the same direction

    Get PDF
Data mining is an efficient methodology for uncovering and extracting information from large databases, which is widely used in different areas, e.g., customer relation management, financial fraud detection, healthcare management, and manufacturing. Data mining has been successfully used in various fraud detection and prevention areas, such as credit card fraud, taxation fraud, and fund transfer fraud. However, there are insufficient researches about the usage of data mining for fraud related to internal control. In order to increase awareness of data mining usefulness in internal control, we developed a case study in a project-based organization. We analyze the dataset about working-hour claims for projects, using two data mining techniques: chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) decision tree and link analysis, in order to describe characteristics of fraudulent working-hour claims and to develop a model for automatic detection of potentially fraudulent ones. Results indicate that the following characteristics of the suspected working-hours claim were the most significant: sector of the customer, origin and level of expertise of the consultant, and cost of the consulting services. Our research contributes to the area of internal control supported by data mining, with the goal to prevent fraudulent working-hour claims in project-based organizations

Higher education institutions are embracing technology development and innovative teaching methods in order to prepare their students to be future professionals. New teaching frameworks extend existing learning approaches and set students as main characters of the learning process, which shifts the focal point from educators to students developing their abilities and knowledge. Psychology experts distinguished the role of games and play as an important factor in intellectual development a long time ago. Simulation games in education are widely acknowledged as highly effective methods, which produce numerous positive effects such as higher performance, engagement, and learning motivation. In this paper, we aimed to investigate the usage of simulation games in higher education institutions. The survey research has been conducted on a sample of 180 lectures at several faculties of economics in numerous European countries. The main goal of the paper is to investigate what is the level of usage of simulation games at faculties of economics, with the specific goals of comparing simulation games to the other types of teaching and discuss their advantages as well as barriers towards their usage.
