    Strengthening of clay aerogel by use of additives

    The effect of soluble and insoluble additives on the compressive strength of the clay aerogel having a sponge-like texture was studied by measuring the compressive strength of composite aerogels prepared by freeze-drying aqueous sols of the desired composition. A linear relationship between the logarithm of compressive strengths and apparent densities of the composite aerogels was found. The order of the strengthening effect of the additives was : humic acid > water glass > rock wool ~ sericite > glass fibers > kaolinite. The humic acid imparted an increase in compressive strength of 10 to 20 times that of the control. The results suggest that the water-soluble additives have a greater reinforcement effect than insoluble components. SEM observations and pore size meas¬ urements support the conclusion that the effectiveness of an additive in enhancing the compressive strength of clay aerogels is related to the extent to which the additive contributes to a decrease in the pore size of the aerogel.Fujita Taketoshi, Sugiyama Hiromishi, Adachi Masayoshi, Nakazawa Hiromoto.     後腹膜に原発し, vonRecklinghausen氏病の徴候のない孤立性神経線維腫の1例を報告する.診断上, もう一つの神経鞘由来の神経鞘腫との鑑別が問題で, 腫瘍の組織化学染色および免疫組織化学染色が孤立性神経線維腫の診断に有用であった,A solitary neurofibroma arising in the retroperitoneal space without any other stagma of von Recklinghausen's disease is reported. Confusion with another nerve sheath tumor, a schwannoma is a diagnostic pitfall. Histochemical and immunohistochemical stainings of the tumor are useful for the diagnosis of solitary neurofibroma
