A small and light weight heat exchanger for on-board helium refrigerator
A small and light weight heat exchanger used for small helium refrigerator has been developed by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. This heat exchanger is a laminated metal heat exchanger which consists of perforated aluminum metal plates and glassfiber reinforced plastic separators. The size is from 100 mm to 28 mm in diameter and about 300 mm in length. The weight is from 2.5 kg to 0.6 kg. Also it can be used between room temperature and liquid helium temperature. The thermal efficiency obtained has been more than 96%. The heat exchanger has been practically used for on-board helium refrigerator in Japanese National Railways' superconducting magnetic levitated trains
The Free Energy and the Scaling Function of the Ferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain in a Magnetic Field
A nonlinear susceptibilities (the third derivative of a magnetization
by a magnetic field ) of the =1/2 ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain and the
classical Heisenberg chain are calculated at low temperatures In both
chains the nonlinear susceptibilities diverge as and a linear
susceptibilities diverge as The arbitrary spin Heisenberg
ferromagnet has a scaling relation between and
The scaling function

Takahashi Integral Equation and High-Temperature Expansion of the Heisenberg Chain
Recently a new integral equation describing the thermodynamics of the 1D
Heisenberg model was discovered by Takahashi. Using the integral equation we
have succeeded in obtaining the high temperature expansion of the specific heat
and the magnetic susceptibility up to O((J/T)^{100}). This is much higher than
those obtained so far by the standard methods such as the linked-cluster
algorithm. Our results will be useful to examine various approximation methods
to extrapolate the high temperature expansion to the low temperature region.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 2 table
Single-crystal growth of underdoped Bi-2223
To investigate the origin of the enhanced Tc ({\approx} 110 K) of the
trilayer cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+{\delta} (Bi-2223), its
underdoped single crystals are a critical requirement. Here, we demonstrate the
first successful in-plane resistivity measurements of heavily underdoped
Bi-2223 (zero-resistivity temperatures {\approx} 20~35 K). Detailed crystal
growth methods, the annealing process, as well as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and
magnetic susceptibility measurement results are also reported.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 27th International Symposium on

Structure of the baryonic flux tube in N_{f}=2 lattice QCD at finite temperature
We study the flux tube profile in the baryonic system in full QCD at finite
temperature on lattice. We fix the maximally Abelian gauge and
measure the monopole and the photon parts of the Abelian action density, the
color electric field and the monopole current on both sides of the finite
temperature transition. We demonstrate the disappearance of the flux tube in
the high temperature phase.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, Lattice2003 topolog
Monte Carlo Study of Supernova Neutrino Spectra Formation
The neutrino flux and spectra formation in a supernova core is studied by
using a Monte Carlo code. The dominant opacity contribution for nu_mu and
nu_tau is elastic scattering on nucleons. In addition we switch on or off a
variety of processes which allow for the exchange of energy or the creation and
destruction of neutrino pairs, notably nucleon bremsstrahlung, the e^+ e^- pair
annihilation process and nu_e-bar nu_e -> nu_{mu,tau} nu_{mu,tau}-bar, recoil
and weak magnetism in elastic nucleon scattering, elastic scattering on
electrons and positrons and elastic scattering on electron neutrinos and
anti-neutrinos. The least important processes are neutrino-neutrino scattering
and e^+ e^- annihilation. The formation of the spectra and fluxes of nu_mu is
dominated by the nucleonic processes, i.e. bremsstrahlung and elastic
scattering with recoil, but also nu_e nu_e-bar annihilation and nu_mu e^\pm
scattering contribute significantly. When all processes are included, the
spectral shape of the emitted neutrino flux is always ``pinched,'' i.e. the
width of the spectrum is smaller than that of a thermal spectrum with the same
average energy. In all of our cases we find that the average nu_mu-bar energy
exceeds the average nu_e-bar energy by only a small amount, 10% being a typical
number. Weak magnetism effects cause the opacity of nu_mu to differ slightly
from that of nu_mu-bar, translating into differences of the luminosities and
average energies of a few percent. Depending on the density, temperature, and
composition profile, the flavor-dependent luminosities L_{nu_e}$, L_{nu_e-bar},
and L_{nu_mu} can mutually differ from each other by up to a factor of two in
either direction.Comment: 33 pages, 16 eps-figs, submitted to ApJ. Sections added: weak

Excited state TBA and functional relations in spinless Fermion model
The excited state thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations for the spinless
Fermion model are presented by the quantum transfer matrix (QTM) approach. We
introduce a more general family called T-functions and explore functional
relations among them (T-system) and their certain combinations (Y-system).
{}From their analytical property, we derive a closed set of non-linear integral
equations which characterize the correlation length of at
any finite temperatures. Solving these equations numerically, we explicitly
determine the correlation length, which coincides with earlier results with
high accuracy.Comment: 4 page
From the quantum Jacobi-Trudi and Giambelli formula to a nonlinear integral equation for thermodynamics of the higher spin Heisenberg model
We propose a nonlinear integral equation (NLIE) with only one unknown
function, which gives the free energy of the integrable one dimensional
Heisenberg model with arbitrary spin. In deriving the NLIE, the quantum
Jacobi-Trudi and Giambelli formula (Bazhanov-Reshetikhin formula), which gives
the solution of the T-system, plays an important role. In addition, we also
calculate the high temperature expansion of the specific heat and the magnetic
susceptibility.Comment: 18 pages, LaTeX; some explanations, 2 figures, one reference added;

NMR Evidence for Antiferromagnetic Transition in the Single-Component Molecular Conductor, [Au(tmdt)_{2}] at 110 K
We present the results of a ^{1}H NMR study of the single-component molecular
conductor, [Au(tmdt)_{2}].
A steep increase in the NMR line width and a peak formation of the nuclear
spin-lattice relaxation rate, 1/T_{1}, were observed at around 110 K.
This behavior provides clear and microscopic evidences for a magnetic phase
transition at considerably high temperature among organic conductors.
The observed variation in 1/T_{1} with respect to temperature indicates the
highly correlated nature of the metallic phase.Comment: 5pages, 6figures to be published in J. Phys. Soc. Jp
