Aerobic Exercise Treatment Model as an Attempt to Improve Promotif and Preventive Functions of Pulmonary Capacity
Pulmonary function respiration system as important in the human body, the function provides oxygen (O2) from the outside of the body for the process of cell metabolism and removing carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the body. Function lung capacity is influenced by genetic, age, gender, height, pulmonary disease, smoking habit and custom of the sport. Aerobic exercises are done routinely run will cause the change form on the muscular system, circulatory system, cardiovascular system and ability of lung capacity function.Β Response to aerobic exercise against pulmonary function capacity depending on exercise intensity, duration and frequency of exercise. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of aerobic exercise against pulmonary function capacity. This research is Experimental Quasy Study, with design of Pretest-Posttest with control group design. The sample amounted to 35 people. The results of the statistical analysis show that there is a significant influence of aerobic exercise to increased lung capacity function. The mean FVC after sports increased 1, 10% with p value = 0,017 and average FEV1 after sports increased 0, 23% with p value = 0,005. Time duration of exercise indicates the absence of effect on the changes in pulmonary function capacity (FVC p value = 0,494 and FEV1 p value = 0,805). Frequency of exercise 3 times a week showed the existence of significant influence towards increasing lung capacity function (FVC p value = 0,001 andΒ FEV1 p value = 0,000). Phonitons as a sound-based analogue of cavity quantum electrodynamics
A quantum mechanical superposition of a long-lived, localized phonon and a
matter excitation is described. We identify a realization in strained silicon:
a low-lying donor transition (P or Li) driven solely by acoustic phonons at
wavelengths where high-Q phonon cavities can be built. This phonon-matter
resonance is shown to enter the strongly coupled regime where the "vacuum" Rabi
frequency exceeds the spontaneous phonon emission into non-cavity modes, phonon
leakage from the cavity, and phonon anharmonicity and scattering. We introduce
a micropillar distributed Bragg reflector Si/Ge cavity, where Q=10^5-10^6 and
mode volumes V<=25*lambda^3 are reachable. These results indicate that single

Valley Splitting Theory of SiGe/Si/SiGe Quantum Wells
We present an effective mass theory for SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum wells, with an
emphasis on calculating the valley splitting. The theory introduces a valley
coupling parameter, , which encapsulates the physics of the quantum well
interface. The new effective mass parameter is computed by means of a tight
binding theory. The resulting formalism provides rather simple analytical
results for several geometries of interest, including a finite square well, a
quantum well in an electric field, and a modulation doped two-dimensional
electron gas. Of particular importance is the problem of a quantum well in a
magnetic field, grown on a miscut substrate. The latter may pose a numerical
challenge for atomistic techniques like tight-binding, because of its
two-dimensional nature. In the effective mass theory, however, the results are
straightforward and analytical. We compare our effective mass results with

Daily Preventive Zinc Supplementation Decreases Lymphocyte and Eosinophil Concentrations in Rural Laotian Children from Communities with a High Prevalence of Zinc Deficiency: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial.
BACKGROUND:Zinc deficiency impairs immune function and is common among children in South-East Asia. OBJECTIVES:The effect of zinc supplementation on immune function in young Laotian children was investigated. METHODS:Children (nΒ =Β 512) aged 6-23Β mo received daily preventive zinc tablets (PZ; 7Β mg Zn/d), daily multiple micronutrient powder (MNP; 10Β mg Zn/d, 6Β mg Fe/d, plus 13 other micronutrients), therapeutic dispersible zinc tablets only in association with diarrhea episodes (TZ; 20Β mg Zn/d for 10 d after an episode), or daily placebo powder (control). These interventions continued for 9Β mo. Cytokine production from whole blood cultures, the concentrations of T-cell populations, and a complete blood count with differential leukocyte count were measured at baseline and endline. Endline means were compared via ANCOVA, controlling for the baseline value of the outcome, child age and sex, district, month of enrollment, and baseline zinc status (below, or above or equal to, the median plasma zinc concentration). RESULTS:T-cell cytokines (IL-2, IFN-Ξ³, IL-13, IL-17), LPS-stimulated cytokines (IL-1Ξ², IL-6, TNF-Ξ±, and IL-10), and T-cell concentrations at endline did not differ between intervention groups, nor was there an interaction with baseline zinc status. However, meanΒ Β±Β SE endline lymphocyte concentrations were significantly lower in the PZ than in the control group (5018Β Β±Β 158Β compared with 5640Β Β±Β 160 cells/ΞΌL, PΒ =Β 0.032). Interactions with baseline zinc status were seen for eosinophils (PixnΒ =Β 0.0036), basophils (PixnΒ =Β 0.023), and monocytes (PΒ =Β 0.086) but a significant subgroup difference was seen only for eosinophils, where concentrations were significantly lower in the PZ than in the control group among children with baseline plasma zinc concentrations below the overall median (524Β Β±Β 44Β compared with 600Β Β±Β 41 cells/ΞΌL, PΒ =Β 0.012). CONCLUSIONS:Zinc supplementation of rural Laotian children had no effect on cytokines or T-cell concentrations, although zinc supplementation affected lymphocyte and eosinophil concentrations. These cell subsets may be useful as indicators of response to zinc supplementation.This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT02428647
Pancreatic Epithelial IL17/IL17RA Signaling Drives B7-H4 Expression to Promote Tumorigenesis
IL17 is required for the initiation and progression of pancreatic cancer, particularly in the context of inflammation, as previously shown by genetic and pharmacological approaches. However, the cellular compartment and downstream molecular mediators of IL17-mediated pancreatic tumorigenesis have not been fully identified. This study examined the cellular compartment required by generating transgenic animals with IL17 receptor A (IL17RA), which was genetically deleted from either the pancreatic epithelial compartment or the hematopoietic compartment via generation of IL17RA-deficient (IL17-RA-/-) bone marrow chimeras, in the context of embryonically activated or inducible Kras. Deletion of IL17RA from the pancreatic epithelial compartment, but not from hematopoietic compartment, resulted in delayed initiation and progression of premalignant lesions and increased infiltration of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells to the tumor microenvironment. Absence of IL17RA in the pancreatic compartment affected transcriptional profiles of epithelial cells, modulating stemness, and immunological pathways. B7-H4, a known inhibitor of T-cell activation encoded by the gene Vtcn1, was the checkpoint molecule most upregulated via IL17 early during pancreatic tumorigenesis, and its genetic deletion delayed the development of pancreatic premalignant lesions and reduced immunosuppression. Thus, our data reveal that pancreatic epithelial IL17RA promotes pancreatic tumorigenesis by reprogramming the immune pancreatic landscape, which is partially orchestrated by regulation of B7-H4. Our findings provide the foundation of the mechanisms triggered by IL17 to mediate pancreatic tumorigenesis and reveal the avenues for early pancreatic cancer immune interception. International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force consensus proposal: Medical treatment of canine epilepsy in Europe
In Europe, the number of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) licensed for dogs has grown considerably over the last years. Nevertheless, the same questions remain, which include, 1) when to start treatment, 2) which drug is best used initially, 3) which adjunctive AED can be advised if treatment with the initial drug is unsatisfactory, and 4) when treatment changes should be considered. In this consensus proposal, an overview is given on the aim of AED treatment, when to start long-term treatment in canine epilepsy and which veterinary AEDs are currently in use for dogs. The consensus proposal for drug treatment protocols, 1) is based on current published evidence-based literature, 2) considers the current legal framework of the cascade regulation for the prescription of veterinary drugs in Europe, and 3) reflects the authorsβ experience. With this paper it is aimed to provide a consensus for the management of canine idiopathic epilepsy. Furthermore, for the management of structural epilepsy AEDs are inevitable in addition to treating the underlying cause, if possible
A survey on clinical presentation and nutritional status of infants with suspected cow' milk allergy
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Cow's milk is the most common food allergen in infants and the diagnosis of cow's milk allergy is difficult, even with the use of several diagnostic tests. Therefore, elimination diets and challenge tests are essential for the diagnosis and treatment of this disorder. The aim of this study is to report the clinical presentation and nutritional status of children evaluated by pediatric gastroenterologists for the assessment of symptoms suggestive of cow's milk allergy.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>An observational cross-sectional study was performed among 9,478 patients evaluated by 30 pediatric gastroenterologists for 40 days in 5 different geographical regions in Brazil. Clinical data were collected from patients with symptoms suggestive of cow's milk allergy. The nutritional status of infants (age β€ 24 months) seen for the first time was evaluated according to z-scores for weight-for-age, weight-for-height, and height-for-age. Epi-Info (CDC-NCHS, 2000) software was used to calculate z-scores.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The prevalence of suspected cow's milk allergy in the study population was 5.4% (513/9,478), and the incidence was 2.2% (211/9,478). Among 159 infants seen at first evaluation, 15.1% presented with a low weight-for-age z score (< -2.0 standard deviation - SD), 8.7% with a low weight-for-height z score (< -2.0 SD), and 23.9% with a low height-for-age z score (< -2.0 SD).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The high prevalence of nutritional deficits among infants with symptoms suggestive of cow's milk allergy indicates that effective elimination diets should be prescribed to control allergy symptoms and to prevent or treat malnutrition.</p
Injection Drug Use Is a Risk Factor for HCV Infection in Urban Egypt
OBJECTIVE: To identify current risk factors for hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission in Greater Cairo. DESIGN AND SETTING: A 1:1 matched case-control study was conducted comparing incident acute symptomatic hepatitis C patients in two "fever" hospitals of Greater Cairo with two control groups: household members of the cases and acute hepatitis A patients diagnosed at the same hospitals. Controls were matched on the same age and sex to cases and were all anti-HCV antibody negative. Iatrogenic, community and household exposures to HCV in the one to six months before symptoms onset for cases, and date of interview for controls, were exhaustively assessed. RESULTS: From 2002 to 2007, 94 definite acute symptomatic HCV cases and 188 controls were enrolled in the study. In multivariate analysis, intravenous injections (OR = 5.0; 95% CI = 1.2-20.2), medical stitches (OR = 4.2; 95% CI = 1.6-11.3), injection drug use (IDU) (OR = 7.9; 95% CI = 1.4-43.5), recent marriage (OR = 3.3; 95% CI = 1.1-9.9) and illiteracy (OR = 3.9; 95% CI = 1.8-8.5) were independently associated with an increased HCV risk. CONCLUSION: In urban Cairo, invasive health care procedures remain a source of HCV transmission and IDU is an emerging risk factor. Strict application of standard precautions during health care is a priority. Implementation of comprehensive infection prevention programs for IDU should be considered

An update on vitamin B12-related gene polymorphisms and B12 status.
Vitamin B12 is an essential micronutrient in humans needed for health maintenance. Deficiency of vitamin B12 has been linked to dietary, environmental and genetic factors. Evidence for the genetic basis of vitamin B12 status is poorly understood. However, advancements in genomic techniques have increased the knowledge-base of the genetics of vitamin B12 status. Based on the candidate gene and genome-wide association (GWA) studies, associations between genetic loci in several genes involved in vitamin B12 metabolism have been identified. The objective of this literature review was to identify and discuss reports of associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in vitamin B12 pathway genes and their influence on the circulating levels of vitamin B12. Relevant articles were obtained through a literature search on PubMed through to May 2017. An article was included if it examined an association of a SNP with serum or plasma vitamin B12 concentration. Beta coefficients and odds ratios were used to describe the strength of an association, and a β<β0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Two reviewers independently evaluated the eligibility for the inclusion criteria and extracted the data. From 23 studies which fulfilled the selection criteria, 16 studies identified SNPs that showed statistically significant associations with vitamin B12 concentrations. Fifty-nine vitamin B12-related gene polymorphisms associated with vitamin B12 status were identified in total, from the following populations: African American, Brazilian, Canadian, Chinese, Danish, English, European ancestry, Icelandic, Indian, Italian, Latino, Northern Irish, Portuguese and residents of the USA. Overall, the data analyzed suggests that ethnic-specific associations are involved in the genetic determination of vitamin B12 concentrations. However, despite recent success in genetic studies, the majority of identified genes that could explain variation in vitamin B12 concentrations were from Caucasian populations. Further research utilizing larger sample sizes of non-Caucasian populations is necessary in order to better understand these ethnic-specific associations
Evaluation of ER, PgR, HER-2 and Ki-67 as predictors of response to neoadjuvant anthracycline chemotherapy for operable breast cancer
Primary systemic therapy (PST) for operable breast cancer enables the identification of in vivo biological markers that predict response to treatment. A total of 118 patients with T2β4 N0β1 M0 primary breast cancer received six cycles of anthracycline-based PST. Clinical and radiological response was assessed before and after treatment using UICC criteria. A grading system to score pathological response was devised. Diagnostic biopsies and postchemotherapy surgical specimens were stained for oestrogen (ER) and progesterone (PgR) receptor, HER-2 and cell proliferation (Ki-67). Clinical, radiological and pathological response rates were 78, 72 and 38%, respectively. There was a strong correlation between ER and PgR staining (P<0.0001). Higher Ki-67 proliferation indices were associated with PgRβ tumours (median 28.3%, PgR+ 22.9%; P=0.042). There was no relationship between HER-2 and other biological markers. No single pretreatment or postchemotherapy biological parameter predicted response by any modality of assessment. In all, 10 tumours changed hormone receptor classification after chemotherapy (three ER, seven PgR); HER-2 staining changed in nine cases. Median Ki-67 index was 24.9% before and 18.1% after treatment (P=0.02); the median reduction in Ki-67 index after treatment was 21.2%. Tumours displaying >75% reduction in Ki-67 after chemotherapy were more likely to achieve a pathological response (77.8 vs 26.7%, P=0.004)
