Interobserver Reliability of Tongue Diagnosis Using Traditional Korean Medicine for Stroke Patients
Observation of the tongue, also known as tongue diagnosis, is an important procedure in diagnosis by inspection in Traditional Korean medicine (TKM). We investigated the reliability of TKM tongue diagnosis in stroke patients by evaluating interobserver reliability regarding tongue indicators as part of the project named the Fundamental Study for the Standardization and Objectification of Pattern Identification in TKM for Stroke (SOPI-Stroke). A total of 658 patients with stroke admitted to 9 oriental medical university hospitals participated. Each patient was independently seen by two experts from the same department for an examination of the status of the tongue. Interobserver agreement about subjects regarding pattern identification with the same opinion between the raters (n = 451) was generally high, ranging from āmoderateā to āexcellentā. Interobserver agreement was nearly perfect for certain signs of special tongue appearance (mirror, spotted, and bluish purple), poor for one of the tongue colors (pale) and moderate for others. Clinicians displayed measurable agreement regarding tongue indicators via both observation and pattern identification consistency. However, interobserver reliability regarding tongue color and fur quality was relatively low. Therefore, it is necessary to improve objectivity and reproducibility of tongue diagnosis through the development of detail-oriented criteria and enhanced training of clinicians
Triclinic Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) as a High Redox Potential Cathode Material for Na-Ion Batteries
Two types of sodium cobalt pyrophosphates, triclinic Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) and orthorhombic Na2CoP2O7, are compared as high-voltage cathode materials for Na-ion batteries. Na2CoP2O7 shows no electrochemical activity, delivering negligible capacity. In contrast, Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) exhibits good electrochemical performance, such as high redox potential at ca. 4.3 V (vs. Na/Na+) and stable capacity retention over 50 cycles, although Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) delivered approximately 40 mA h g(-1). This is attributed to the fact that Na2CoP2O7 (similar to 3.1 angstrom) has smaller diffusion channel size than Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) (similar to 4.2 angstrom). Moreover, the electrochemical performance of Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) is examined using Na cells and Li cells. The overpotential of Na cells is smaller than that of Li cells. This is due to the fact that Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) has a smaller charge transfer resistance and higher diffusivity for Na+ ions than Li+ ions. This implies that the large channel size of Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) is more appropriate for Na+ ions than Li+ ions. Therefore, Na3.12Co2.44(P2O7)(2) is considered a promising high-voltage cathode material for Na-ion batteries, if new electrolytes, which are stable above 4.5 V vs. Na/Na+, are introduced.
A Comparative Analysis of Three Major Transfer Airports in Northeast Asia Focusing on Incheon International Airport Using a Conjoint Analysis
Due mainly to the privatization and commercialization of airline companies and deregulation of the aviation rules, the demand for air transport has continuously been increasing. Airport authorities state that transfer passengers, who contribute to the large portion of the airportsā profits, are gaining much more importance, particularly in the Northeast Asia region where the air transport industry is very vital. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the competitiveness of IIA (Incheon International Airport) with other major airports located in Northeast Asia in passenger transfers made between Southeast Asia and China to North America using Conjoint Analysis. Results have indicated that airport brand is the most important attribute for the competitiveness of airport, followed by cost, connectivity and duty free shops. In further analysis focusing on brand value of the three airports measured by the use of transfer passengers, it was revealed that IIA needs more effort in developing their brand identity to become the leading transfer hub airport. Based on the results, recommendations for increasing the brand value have also been suggested
Reliability and validity of a Korean version of the childrenās eating behavior questionnaire in anorexia context
BackgroundAlthough childhood anorexia is a common clinical disorder, there is no established tool for evaluating it. The Childrenās Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) is a parent-reported measure designed to assess the eating behavior of children. We aimed to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the CEBQ (K-CEBQ) for children with anorexia.MethodsParents of children with anorexia aged between 2 and 9āyears participated in a survey conducted twice at 1-month intervals. The general characteristics and K-CEBQ scores of the children were recorded. To assess the reliability of the K-CEBQ, the internal consistency and testāretest methods were used. Furthermore, correlation analysis was performed for each item and factor, and the discriminant validity was determined through comparison with the normal group. Optimal cut-off scores, which are based on the maximum area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic curve, were calculated in two categories.ResultsA total of 336 participants responded to the first survey, and the responses from 171 participants from the second survey were included in the analysis. The K-CEBQ showed relatively high internal consistency reliability (Cronbachās alphaā=ā0.738), and the retest demonstrated sufficient temporal stability. The relationship between each item of the K-CEBQ and the factor to which the item belongs showed a high correlation. There were significant differences between the anorexia and normal groups in two categories of the K-CEBQ: āfood approachā (pā=ā0.0063) and āfood avoidantā (pā<ā0.0001). The optimal cut-off values for the āfood approachā and āfood avoidantā category scores were 39.50 and 58.50 points, respectively.ConclusionThis study demonstrated that the K-CEBQ may be a reliable and valid tool for assessing the eating behavior of children with anorexia
Differential Association of Uncoupling Protein 2 Polymorphisms with Pattern Identification among Korean Stroke Patients: A Diagnostic System in Traditional Korean Medicine
Uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2), a mitochondrial protein present in many organs and cell types, is known to dissipate the proton gradient formed by the electron transport chain. Its function is correlated with predictive parameters, such as obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndromes. We analyzed the distribution of UCP2 polymorphisms in stroke patients diagnosed with one of the following four stroke subtypes based on the TKM standard pattern identification (PI): Qi-deficiency (QD), Dampness and Phlegm (D&P), Yin-deficiency (YD), and Fire and Heat (F&D). We studied a total of 1,786 stroke patients (397/QD, 645/D&P, 223/YD, and 522/F&D, 586/normal). Genotyping for the G-1957A, G-866A and A55V UCP2 polymorphisms was performed using the TaqMan. G-866A and A55V were significantly associated with the D&P and H&F subtypes. The frequency of subjects with the A allele of G-866A was significantly lower than the frequency of subjects with the GG type. The A55V polymorphism was also shown similar effect with G-866A in the dominant model. In contrast, no SNPs were shown to be associated with the QD or YD subtypes in this study. These results showed that the G-866A and A55V UCP2 polymorphisms may be genetic factors for specific PI types among Korean stroke patients
Ultrahigh-efficiency solution-processed simplified small-molecule organic light-emitting diodes using universal host materials
Although solution processing of small-molecule organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) has been considered as a promising alternative to standard vacuum deposition requiring high material and processing cost, the devices have suffered from low luminous efficiency and difficulty of multilayer solution processing. Therefore, high efficiency should be achieved in simple-structured small-molecule OLEDs fabricated using a solution process. We report very efficient solution-processed simple-structured small-molecule OLEDs that use novel universal electron-transporting host materials based on tetraphenylsilane with pyridine moieties. These materials have wide band gaps, high triplet energy levels, and good solution processabilities; they provide balanced charge transport in a mixed-host emitting layer. Orange-red (similar to 97.5 cd/A, similar to 35.5% photons per electron), green (similar to 101.5 cd/A, similar to 29.0% photons per electron), and white (similar to 74.2 cd/A, similar to 28.5% photons per electron) phosphorescent OLEDs exhibited the highest recorded electroluminescent efficiencies of solution-processed OLEDs reported to date. We also demonstrate a solution-processed flexible solid-state lighting device as a potential application of our devices.
