    Sub-100-as timing jitter optical pulse trains from mode-locked Er-fiber lasers

    We demonstrate sub-100-attosecond timing jitter optical pulse trains generated from free-running, 77.6-MHz repetition-rate, mode-locked Er-fiber lasers. At -0.002(\pm0.001) ps2 net cavity dispersion, the rms timing jitter is 70 as (224 as) integrated from 10 kHz (1 kHz) to 38.8 MHz offset frequency, when measured by a 24-as-resolution balanced optical cross-correlator. To our knowledge, this result corresponds to the lowest rms timing jitter measured from any mode-locked fiber lasers so far. The measured result also agrees fairly well with the Namiki-Haus analytic model of quantum-limited timing jitter in stretched-pulse fiber lasers.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to appear in Optics Letter

    Unsupervised Pre-Training For Data-Efficient Text-to-Speech On Low Resource Languages

    Neural text-to-speech (TTS) models can synthesize natural human speech when trained on large amounts of transcribed speech. However, collecting such large-scale transcribed data is expensive. This paper proposes an unsupervised pre-training method for a sequence-to-sequence TTS model by leveraging large untranscribed speech data. With our pre-training, we can remarkably reduce the amount of paired transcribed data required to train the model for the target downstream TTS task. The main idea is to pre-train the model to reconstruct de-warped mel-spectrograms from warped ones, which may allow the model to learn proper temporal assignment relation between input and output sequences. In addition, we propose a data augmentation method that further improves the data efficiency in fine-tuning. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method in low-resource language scenarios, achieving outstanding performance compared to competing methods.     Tissue-specific down-regulation of RIPK 2 in Mycobacterium leprae-infected nu/nu mice.

    RIPK 2 is adapter molecule in the signal pathway involved in Toll-like receptors. However, there has been no reported association between receptor-interacting serine/threonine kinase 2 (RIPK 2) expression and the infectious diseases involving mycobacterial infection. This study found that its expression was down-regulated in the footpads and skin but was up-regulated in the liver of Mycobacterium leprae-infected nu/nu mice compared with those of the M. leprae non-infected nu/nu mice. It was observed that the interlukin-12p40 and interferon-gamma genes involved in the susceptibility of M. leprae were down-regulated in the skin but were up-regulated in the liver. Overall, this suggests that regulation of RIPK 2 expression is tissue-specifically associated with M. leprae infection
