Analysis of the H-bridge in Carboxyllic Acids in Terms of Stabilization Energy Derived from Bond Lengths. Non-Hammett Properties of p-Substituted Benzoic Acids in the Crystalline State

    Get PDF
Harmonic oscillator stabilization energy (HOSE) is defined as the negative value of deformation energy necessary to transform a molecule from its natural geometry to its Kekule structure with purely single and double bonds. It was found that HOSE-values for dimers of carboxylic acids with centrosymmetric hydrogen bonds are well related (correlation coeff. r = 0.972) to the Ro . . . o distances for 19 species for which measurements were carried out in both the crystalline and gaseous states. Stability of many other Jt- systems, e. g. aromatic and unsaturated hydrocarbons, polymethine systems (e.g. cyanine dyes), EDA-complexes, quinoid systems, etc. are successfully described in terms of HOSE-values

One- and two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis were used to compare the composition of nuclear polypeptides from normal and В-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia mononuclear cells. Against two electrophoretically-specific nuclear proteins with molecular weight of 38/39 and 44/46 kD a from leukemic cells rabbit sera were obtained. As it was analyzed by Western blot technique the available antisera recognized the 38/39 kDa antigen in 53 of the 56 (94.6%), while the 44/46 kDa in 46 of the 49 (93.9%) of examined В-CLL nuclear fraction preparations, but not in normal ones. The pi values of described leukaemia-specific antigens were determined; p38/39 had pi in the range of pH 6.55 -7.00 and p44/46 - in the range of pH 6.2-6.4.Zadanie pt. „Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki” nr 885/P-DUN/2014 dofinansowane zostało ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę

A debate: Can we recommend electronic cigarettes to our patients? Opinion 1

    Get PDF
A discussion about disadvantages of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has recently broken out. There are even opinions that they are as harmful as regular cigarettes. However, this has not been proved, and theoretical premises suggest that e-cigarettes should be definitely less harmful as while using them, tobacco is not burned and harmful substances, in particular carcinogens are not produced. Certain premises assume that e-cigarettes may be used as a new form of nicotine replacement therapy, but this has not been confirmed yet. Therefore, further research into harmfulness and safety of the use of e-cigarettes is required. This paper presents solely reasons for the possibility of recommending e-cigarettes to people addicted to nicotine.A discussion about disadvantages of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has recently broken out. Development of sea port in Gdynia

Seaports operate on a highly competitive global transport market. To retain its competitive position a port (terminal) must strengthen its competitive advantages in all fields of activity. Ports are to expand and modernize their infrastructure and superstructure, and develop links with the hinterland and the foreland. The article describes how the port of Gdynia manages to meet these challenges. The author analyses the period 2007-2015. Special attention is paid to the port development plan for 2020. The EU Structural Funds has provided a good opportunity to strengthen the competitive position of the port by making investments in the port infrastructure and superstructure. It allowed the port to strengthen its links with the hinterland. The author uses a set of fundamental, analytical and technical research methods to analyse materials provided by the port authority and the port terminal operators. By the end of 2015, the port authority had completed five investment projects, including the modernization of th ree wharfs and a rail terminal, the development of the port infrastructure aimed to provide services to ro-ro ships. Strategically important projects for the coming years include dredging and widening of the port channel, fairways and the internal basin. Cooperation between the port and the city authorities allowed the port administration to improve road access to the port of Gdynia. The key investment project aims to link the port of Gdynia to the TriCity ring road. Apart from it, there are plans to improve access to the railroad network. Railway line 201 to Bydgoszcz is to be modernised to transport cargoes from Gdynia further inland. The current and future strategic investments create conditions for growth in handling both container and other types of cargo in the port of Gdynia and significantly improve competitiveness of the maritime sector

Growth Market For Entrepreneurial Education In Poland And In China

In today’s global, highly interconnected and interrelated world a need for entrepreneurial education and training becomes more and more necessary. And it is not only for economic but also for socio-political reasons -- if not for even broader ideals of peaceful coexistence.    Both Poland and China are often cited as fascinating examples and unique case studies of dynamic and successful economic transformation process where educations and skills play an increasingly important role . Both countries have experienced a long period of what has become known as historically  planned  economies ,  both  struggled  maintaining  and  preserving  heritage  and traditions

On some matrix operator and its applications

    Get PDF
The paper focuses on a matrix operator, which maps a square real matrix to a block matrix (called the saddle point matrix), where the left-up block represents the given matrix, the right-down block is zero, and two other blocks are vectors of ones. The operator transforms any symmetric matrix into the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker matrix of standard quadratic program on the standard simplex, which is the intersection of a hyperplane with the positive orthant. There are shown some properties of this matrix operator, connections with game theory and necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of unique interior optimizer of standard quadratic program
