Fast wavelength thermal tuning of DFB lasers for ultra dense WDM-PONs

    Get PDF
Thermal tunability for distributed feedback lasers is generally done at slow tuning speed. We study laser current boosting and implement a pre-equalization stage for short wavelength jump, improving the tuning time to the half. A wider jump is also done under a more practical context. This work was supported in part by the Spanish Comision Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CICYT) Project Versatile Coherent Dual Optical Network (VERSONET) under Grant RTI2018-097051.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Practical fast and non-intrusive ONU activation procedure in coherent udWDM-PON

The development of coherent high density WDM PONs, forecasted as one of the promising technologies to increase the spectral efficiency and reduce the energy consumption, can be obstructedbythe limited tunability, high wavelength drifts and tuning transients of the DFB lasers used in PONs. In this work, a new non-intrusive, colorless and scalable channel allocation procedure is experimentally validated using simple EML lasers as transmitters and local oscillators.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
