Mammals of Southwestern Arkansas Part II. Rodents
This study investigated the composition and habitat affinities of the mammalian fauna of southwestern Arkansas. The study area was comprised of the 21 counties located south and/or west of and including Pulaski County. The previously existing data set pertaining to the mammals of Arkansas was notably incomplete and this study area in particular, was poorly known mammalogically. Specimens were collected by standard trapping and salvage methods throughout the study area. The mammals considered during this study were limited to those species meeting a set of criteria designed to eliminate species that had been introduced or artificially maintained. This study has accumulated records of 25 species of rodents; over 1500 specimens have been recorded; and a total of 95 new county records have been documented
Lift Enhancement for Low-Aspect-Ratio Wings with Periodic Excitation
In an effort to enhance lift on low-aspect-ratio rectangular flat-plate wings in low-Reynolds-number
post-stall flows, periodic injection of momentum is considered along the trailing edge in this numerical
study. The purpose of actuation is not to reattach the flow but to change the dynamics of the wake
vortices such that the resulting lift force is increased. Periodic forcing is observed to be effective
in increasing lift for various aspect ratios and angles of attack, achieving a similar lift enhancement
attained by steady forcing with less momentum input. Through the investigation on the influence of
the actuation frequency, it is also found that there exists a frequency at which the flow locks on to a
time-periodic high-lift state
Signatures of the collapse and revival of a spin Schr\"{o}dinger cat state in a continuously monitored field mode
We study the effects of continuous measurement of the field mode during the
collapse and revival of spin Schr\"{o}dinger cat states in the Tavis-Cummings
model of N qubits (two-level quantum systems) coupled to a field mode. We show
that a compromise between relatively weak and relatively strong continuous
measurement will not completely destroy the collapse and revival dynamics while
still providing enough signal-to-noise resolution to identify the signatures of
the process in the measurement record. This type of measurement would in
principle allow the verification of the occurrence of the collapse and revival
of a spin Schr\"{o}dinger cat state.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Survey and monitoring of opium poppy and wheat in Afghanistan: 2003-2009
An integrated application of remote-sensing technology was devised and applied in Afghanistan during 2003–2009 providing critical information on cereal and poppy cultivation and poppy eradication. The results influenced UK and international policy and counter-narcotics actions in Afghanistan
