Observation of a decoupled band in 123 Cs
The methods of in-beam Îł -ray spectroscopy have been used to study 123 Cs produced by the 115 In( 12 C, 4 n ) reaction. Five coincident stretched E 2 transitions, previously assigned in the literature to 123 Ba, have been identified as members of a decoupled band in 123 Cs.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/45822/1/10050_2005_Article_BF01422105.pd

New focal plane detector system for the broad range spectrometer
A focal plane detector system consisting of a vertical drift chamber, parallel plate avalanche counters, and an ionization chamber with segmented anodes has been installed in the Broad Range Spectrometer at the Holifield Facility at Oak Ridge. The system, which has been designed for use with light-heavy ions with energies ranging from 10 to 25 MeV/amu, has a position resolution of approx. 0.1 mm, a scattering angle resolution of approx. 3 mrad, and a mass resolution of approx. 1/60
Heavy ion excitation and photon decay of giant resonances
Results are presented for excitation of giant multipole resonances by inelastic scattering of 350 and 500 MeV /sup 16/O projectiles from /sup 90/Zr and /sup 208/Pb. The giant quadrupole resonance is excited with large cross sections and a very large resonance peak to continuum ratio is obtained. Extracted cross sections agree with DWBA calculations which use standard collective model form factors. Using 380 MeV 170 to excite the giant resonances, the ..gamma..-ray decay has been measured for the giant quadrupole resonance region of /sup 208/Pb. 10 references
HEAVY ION EXCITATION AND PHOTON DECAY OF GIANT RESONANCES
Results are presented for excitation of giant multipole resonances by inelastic scattering of 350 and 400 MeV 16O projectiles from 90Zr and 208Pb.
