The McQueeney Municipal Utility District Project: An Archaeological Reconnaissance
During late March, 1976, the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted an archaeological reconnaissance in the vicinity of McQueeney, in Guadalupe County, Texas. This reconnaissance had been authorized by the McQueeney Municipal Utility District in connection with its plans for sewage lines and waste treatment facilities in the McQueeney area. Survey work was facilitated through contacts with URS Forrest and Cotton (project engineers) and with Mr. M. O. Stautzenberger, president of the utility district. We are grateful to Mr. Stautzenberger for providing the field team with a 1:300 aerial photograph of the project locality, and for making the necessary entry arrangements with local landowner
Some Aspects of Late Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology in Southern Texas
This paper is concerned with the last several hundred years of the prehistoric period in the southern part of Texas. The earlier human occupation of this region, extending back perhaps 11,000 years, has been summarized elsewhere (Hester 197la). The Paleo-Indian period is represented by scattered surface finds of Clovis and Fol6om projectile points, and by a variety of Late Paleo-Indian point styles, such as Plainview, Scottsbluff, Golondrina, Angostura and Merserve.. The following Archaic era is poorly defined, although there are numerous surf ace sites and an abundance of chipped stone artifacts (cf. Weir 1956; Hester, White and White 1969)
Effects of Alcohol and Expectancy Upon Episodic Memory in Individuals Reporting Alcoholic Blackouts
In a within-subject placebo design, 10 heavy drinkers reporting alcoholic blackouts showed significant decrements in episodic memory when receiving alcohol but not on days when a placebo was given. Parallel deficits were observed on recall and recognition measures. On placebo days, self-ratings of intoxication were related to the degree of observed performance decrement. Memory deficits appear to be primarily pharmacologic rather than expectancy effects of drinking
Chandra Confirmation of a Pulsar Wind Nebula in DA 495
As part of a multiwavelength study of the unusual radio supernova remnant DA
495, we present observations made with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Imaging
and spectroscopic analysis confirms the previously detected X-ray source at the
heart of the annular radio nebula, establishing the radiative properties of two
key emission components: a soft unresolved source with a blackbody temperature
of 1 MK consistent with a neutron star, surrounded by a nonthermal nebula 40''
in diameter exhibiting a power-law spectrum with photon index Gamma =
1.6+/-0.3, typical of a pulsar wind nebula. The implied spin-down luminosity of
the neutron star, assuming a conversion efficiency to nebular flux appropriate
to Vela-like pulsars, is ~10^{35} ergs/s, again typical of objects a few tens
of kyr old. Morphologically, the nebular flux is slightly enhanced along a
direction, in projection on the sky, independently demonstrated to be of
significance in radio polarization observations; we argue that this represents
the orientation of the pulsar spin axis. At smaller scales, a narrow X-ray
feature is seen extending out 5'' from the point source, a distance consistent
with the sizes of resolved wind termination shocks around many Vela-like
pulsars. Finally, we argue based on synchrotron lifetimes in the estimated
nebular magnetic field that DA 495 represents a rare pulsar wind nebula in
which electromagnetic flux makes up a significant part, together with particle
flux, of the neutron star's wind, and that this high magnetization factor may

Positive Psychological Wellbeing Is Required for Online Self-Help Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Chronic Pain to be Effective
The web-based delivery of psychosocial interventions is a promising treatment modality for people suffering from chronic pain, and other forms of physical and mental illness. Despite the promising findings of first studies, patients may vary in the benefits they draw from self-managing a full-blown web-based psychosocial treatment. We lack knowledge on moderators and predictors of change during web-based interventions that explain for whom web-based interventions are especially (in)effective. In this study, we primarily explored for which chronic pain patients web-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) was (in)effective during a large three-armed randomized controlled trial. Besides standard demographic, physical and psychosocial factors we focused on positive mental health. Data from 238 heterogeneously diagnosed chronic pain sufferers from the general Dutch population following either web-based ACT (n = 82), or one of two control conditions [web-based Expressive Writing (EW; n = 79) and Waiting List (WL; n = 77)] were analysed. ACT and EW both consisted of nine modules and lasted nine to 12 weeks. Exploratory linear regression analyses were performed using the PROCESS macro in SPSS. Pain interference at 3-month follow-up was predicted from baseline moderator (characteristics that influence the outcome of specific treatments in comparison to other treatments) and predictor (characteristics that influence outcome regardless of treatment) variables. The results showed that none of the demographic or physical characteristics moderated ACT treatment changes compared to both control conditions. The only significant moderator of change compared to both EW and WL was baseline psychological wellbeing, and pain intensity was a moderator of change compared to EW. Furthermore, higher pain interference, depression and anxiety, and also lower levels of emotional well-being predicted higher pain interference in daily life 6 months later. These results suggest that web-based self-help ACT may not be allocated to chronic pain sufferers experiencing low levels of mental resilience resources such as self-acceptance, goals in life, and environmental mastery. Other subgroups are identified that potentially need specific tailoring of (web-based) ACT. Emotional and psychological wellbeing should receive much more attention in subsequent studies on chronic pain and illness

<p/> <p>Tetanus with hiatal hernia was diagnosed in a four-month-old female sheepdog pup. The animal was treated with tetanus antitoxin, antibiotics, fluids and intensive nursing care for three weeks and subsequently made a full recovery.</p
A VLA Search for Water Masers in Six HII Regions: Tracers of Triggered Low-Mass Star Formation
We present a search for water maser emission at 22 GHz associated with young
low-mass protostars in six HII regions -- M16, M20, NGC 2264, NGC 6357, S125,
and S140. The survey was conducted with the NRAO Very Large Array from 2000 to
2002. For several of these HII regions, ours are the first high-resolution
observations of water masers. We detected 16 water masers: eight in M16, four
in M20, three in S140, and one in NGC 2264. All but one of these were
previously undetected. No maser emission was detected from NGC 6357 or S125.
There are two principle results to our study. (1) The distribution of water
masers in M16 and M20 does not appear to be random but instead is concentrated
in a layer of compressed gas within a few tenths of a parsec of the ionization
front. (2) Significantly fewer masers are seen in the observed fields than
expected based on other indications of ongoing star formation, indicating that
the maser-exciting lifetime of protostars is much shorter in HII regions than
in regions of isolated star formation. Both of these results confirm
predictions of a scenario in which star formation is first triggered by shocks
driven in advance of ionization fronts, and then truncated approximately 10^5

X-rays and Protostars in the Trifid Nebula
The Trifid Nebula is a young HII region recently rediscovered as a
"pre-Orion" star forming region, containing protostars undergoing violent mass
ejections visible in optical jets as seen in images from the Infrared Space
Observatory and the Hubble Space Telescope. We report the first X-ray
observations of the Trifid nebula using ROSAT and ASCA. The ROSAT image shows a
dozen X-ray sources, with the brightest X-ray source being the O7 star, HD
164492, which provides most of the ionization in the nebula. We also identify
85 T Tauri star and young, massive star candidates from near-infrared colors
using the JHKs color-color diagram from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS).
Ten X-ray sources have counterpart near-infrared sources. The 2MASS stars and
X-ray sources suggest there are potentially numerous protostars in the young
HII region of the Trifid. ASCA moderate resolution spectroscopy of the
brightest source shows hard emission up to 10 keV with a clearly detected Fe K
line. The best model fit is a two-temperature (T = 1.2x10^6 K and 39x10^6 K)
thermal model with additional warm absorbing media. The hotter component has an
unusually high temperature for either an O star or an HII region; a typical
Galactic HII region could not be the primary source for such hot temperature
plasma and the Fe XXV line emission. We suggest that the hotter component
originates in either the interaction of the wind with another object (a
companion star or a dense region of the nebula) or from flares from deeply

The Crab Nebula's Moving Wisps in Radio
We present three high resolution radio images of the Crab nebula, taken in
1998.6, 1998.8 and 2000.1 with the VLA. These are the best radio images of the
Crab to date. We show that, near the pulsar, there are significant changes
between our three observing epochs. These changes have an elliptical geometry
very similar to that of the optical wisps. One radio wisp in particular can be
unambiguously identified between two of our observing epochs, and moves outward
with an apparent velocity of ~0.24. The similarity in both morphology and
behavior of the present radio wisps to the optical wisps suggests that they are
associated. This implies that the radio wisps, like the optical ones, are
likely manifestations of the shock in the Crab pulsar's wind. This suggests
that the radio emitting electrons are accelerated in the same region as the
ones responsible for the optical to X-ray emission, contrary to most current
