Altsandregenerierung unter besonderer Beruecksichtigung der Vermeidung von Emisionen am Beispiel einer mittelstaendischen Giesserei. Teilbericht: Regenerierung von Giessereialtsanden - Altsandregenerierungsanlagen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Studie
2 millions tons of used foundry sands are accumulated for disposal every year in the Federal Republic of Germany. The regeneration of these sands has so far not become a currently practised alternative to disposal. For reasons of environmental and resource protection, the regeneration of used foundry sands should be preferred to disposal. Basic operative obstructions do not hinder regeneration as the project, executed by slr Giesserei St. Leon-Rot GmbH, showed. To put the experience - won within the frame of the project at a specific regeneration plant and a specific foundry plant - on a broader basis, available information has been acquired and summarized as a profile. Main subject of the study presented here is the demonstration of used sand regeneration plants which are in operation in the Federal Republic of Germany and a comparison of the data of these plants. 2 million tons of used foundry sands are accumulated for disposal every year in the Federal Republic of Germany. The regeneration of these sands has so far not become a currently practised alternative to disposal. The project was able to show that: - It is possible to regenerate the greensands, important because of their amount. Negative effects of the regeneration application on the product quality can be limited using suitable measures. - The regeneration can, with justifiable expenditure, be integrated into a medium-sized foundry shop as a new company unit, but currently leads to considerable financial disadvantages. These financial disadvantages are caused by the current or newly revived possibilities or public waste-disposal sites, or their use in road construction. - The regeneration of used sand leads to a distant decrease of residual materials to be disposed of, helps protect resources and the landscape and is not connected with any relevant emissions. For reasons of environmental and resource protection, the regeneration of used foundry sands should be given priority over disposal. Basic operative obstructions do not hinder regeneration.
