Disjunct cephalocele (bilateral orbital cystic glial tissue): A clinico-pathologic entity

Congenital orbital extension of intracranial contents is an uncommon entity. A two-year-old girl was referred to the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital for evaluation and management of progressively enlarging cystic naso-orbital lesions. Diagnostic and surgical investigations confirmed the diagnosis of bilateral orbital glial tissues in an intermediate developmental stage. This is a developmental defect in which neural tissue is found outside the intracranial cavity. The process had not advanced to the stage of complete encephalocele formation and is probably beyond the early proliferative choristomatous phase. The term disjunct cephalocele seems appropriate for this intermediate stage
