Presenting the checks of dietary supplements by NFCSO
The interest in various dietary supplements, which are considered to be beneficial for human physiological effects, has been growing steadily for years, so the importance of their food safety is increasing due to increasing consumption. Their production and distribution are bound for notification by the law. In the current legislative environment, these products are in the category of foods, and their control is, the responsibility of the food safety authority, among others. In my manuscript, I present the most important results of the inspections carried out by the NFCSO and the Pangea Action carried out internationally in 2018. Inspections were carried out partly by the NFCSO on the basis of own control and monitoring plans, and partly on notifications of public interest. Taurintartalom meghatározása energiaitalokban Ă©s Ă©trendkiegĂ©szĂtĹ‘kben HPLC-MS/MSműszerkapcsolással = Determination of the taurine content of energy drinks and dietary supplements using HPLC-MS/MS
Napjainkban a kevĂ©s alvásnak, a rohanĂł Ă©letmĂłdnak, a sok stressznek Ă©s a vitaminhiánynak köszönhetĹ‘en az emberek kimerĂĽltebbek Ă©s fáradtabbak. Ez is az egyik oka az energiaitalok egyre nagyobb nĂ©pszerűsĂ©gĂ©nek. MĂg kifejlesztĂ©sĂ©nek kezdetĂ©n csak patikában lehetett hozzájutni kis mennyisĂ©gekben, manapság akár 2 literes kiszerelĂ©sekkel is találkozhatunk a boltok polcain. Mivel a termĂ©kekben lĂ©vĹ‘ hatĂłanyagok mennyisĂ©ge Ă©s a kiszerelĂ©s mĂ©rete sokszor nincs összhangban, ezen adalĂ©kanyagok tĂşlzott bevitele akár mindennapos is lehet. Ez hosszĂş távon mindenkĂ©pp ártalmas az egĂ©szsĂ©gre, de akár az egyszeri tĂşladagolás is okozhat panaszokat. Az energiaitalokban a koffein mellett a taurin a leggyakoribb hatĂłanyag, amely - bár megtalálhatĂł a szervezetben - tĂşlzott fogyasztása káros lehet az egĂ©szsĂ©gre. Annak Ă©rdekĂ©ben, hogy figyelemmel tudjuk kĂsĂ©rni a termĂ©kek taurintartalmát, olyan mĂłdszert kellett kifejleszteni, amellyel nagy mintamennyisĂ©g esetĂ©n is gyors Ă©s pontos mĂ©rĂ©seket vĂ©gezhetĂĽnk. Ehhez HPLC-MS/MS műszerkapcsolás nyĂşjtott segĂtsĂ©get. Nowadays, due to the lack of sleep, a hectic lifestyle, lots of stress and vitamin deficiency, people are more and more exhausted and tired. This is one of the reasons of the increasing popularity of energy drinks. While at the early stage of their development, only small amounts could be bought in pharmacies, today even 2-liter bottles are available on the shelves of supermarkets. Since it is often the case that the amount of active ingredients in the prodcuts is inconsistent with the package size, therefore, excessive intake of these additives can be an everyday occurrence. This is definitely harmeful to one’s health in the long run, but even a single overdose can have adverse effects. The most common active ingredient in energy drinks, in addition to caffeine, is taurine whose excessive intake – even though it is found in the body – can have harmful effects. In order to be able to monitor the taurine content of diferent products, a method had to be developed that is suitable for performing fast and accurate analyses, even in case of large sample numbers. This was achieved using HPLC-MS/MS
