    A Study on Destination Image of Kerala as an Ayurvedic Health Care Destination

    Travel and health are complimentary to each other. Recently there is a demand for stress relieving holidays as people preferred to go for particular holiday destinations where their health was also looked after and where they could rejuvenate themselves. Kerala identified this need and projected itself as a healthcare destination .The Present study concentrates mainly on Kerala‟s holistic healthcare system-Ayurveda. Ayurveda plays a major role in Kerala‟s round the year tourism.  The study is based on the fact that the growth in the health tourism definitely provides sustainable benefits to the Kerala tourism market. Destination image is generally considered as an important attribute in successful destination marketing. This paper aims to identify various destination features which contribute to build a positive destination image about Kerala as a healthcare destination and to understand the relationship between tourist perception and satisfaction. The study explores the destination image enhancement opportunities that exist between the tourist preferences and satisfaction in the desired healthcare service delivery.&nbsp

    A Study on Customer Perception of Medical Tourism in Puducherry

    Medical tourism is the latest trend happening in many countries of the world where tourists in need of medical treatments from the developed countries approach the developing countries imparting treatments at par with the quality of their home countries.  Among the countries practicing medical tourism, India is occupying one of the top positions with respect to the quality treatments as most of the states have recognized its significance.  This study aims at studying the customer perception of medical tourism in the union territory of Puducherry.  The units of the study are the international medical tourists who sought medical treatments in the private healthcare hospitals of Puducherry. The methodology used for the study is descriptive, analytical and inferential. Factor Analysis, T-test and ANOVA are the tools utilized for analyzing the primary data. The study reveals that the facilities provided to foreign patients are customer oriented. The satisfaction level of patients regarding the staff interaction, facilities and amenities and treatment are high. But, there is some need of improvement in the case of formalities and tourism part.  The efficiency of the doctors, their personal touch, their communication skills, the facilities and amenities of the hospitals contributes to the cutting edge experience by the medical tourists. One important drawback is the lack of international accreditation which needs utmost ground work. The study finally suggests strategies for motivating the medical tourists undertaking healthcare treatments in Puducherry.&nbsp

    HRD practices in the classified hotels in Orissa: a study of employee perceptions

    In the present paper, an attempt has been made to measure the employees’ perception of some of the human resource development (HRD) practices prevailing in the classified hotels in Orissa. Orissa is a state in the eastern India which has been heavily concentrating its developmental efforts at the tourism industry in general and the hotel sector in particular since the early 80’s. However, the results do not substantiate the quantum of efforts for which many reasons have been proposed. A key contention made by critics is that these efforts were lopsided in that they gave undue importance to the marketing function and totally neglected complementary aspects like HRDEn el presente documento se ha tratado de medir la percepción de los empleados sobre las prácticas que revalecen en algunos desarrollos de recursos humanos (HRD) en hoteles clasificados de Orissa. Orissa es un estado del este de India que, desde principios de los años 80, ha concentrado sus esfuerzos de desarrollo en la industria turística en general y en el sector hotelero en particular. No obstante, los resultados no se substancian en la cantidad de esfuerzo por muchas razones.     Community and tourists are two inseparable stakeholders that are complementary to each other in many respects in the development of ecotourism destinations. The assessment of perceptions of community and tourists on ecotourism development in the protected areas is a baseline on which ecotourism potential of the park is completely dependent. It is proved in many cases that there is a better understanding between community and tourists in the conservation of protected areas through the development of ecotourism. This paper explores how theecotourism project has brought about considerable changes in the perceptions of community and tourists. The data collected from the residents of buffer area of the park show a positive response towards the promotion of eco friendly tourism in Similpal National Park. Similarly, the results of the analysis of the perceptions of tourists demonstrate a huge responsibility to the conservation of flora and fauna and sustainability of the ecotourism attractions. The outcomes of the research will have immense impact on the park authority to involve the community in all decision making process of ecotourism project in the future. The findings of the paper have practical relevance for park authority and tour operators that are trying to develop low impact tourism or responsible tourism. This research will lay foundation for future research work on the ecotourism in the protected areas
