Measurement of the analyzing power of proton-carbon elastic scattering in the CNI region at RHIC
The single transverse spin asymmetry, A_N, of the p-carbon elastic scattering
process in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference (CNI) region was measured using an
ultra thin carbon target and polarized proton beam in the Relativistic Heavy
Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). In 2004, data were
collected to calibrate the p-carbon process at two RHIC energies (24 GeV, 100
GeV). A_N was obtained as a function of momentum transfer -t. The results were
fit with theoretical models which allow us to assess the contribution from a
hadronic spin flip amplitude.Comment: Contribution to the proceedings of the 16th International Spin

Search for sterile neutrinos at the DANSS experiment
DANSS is a highly segmented 1~m plastic scintillator detector. Its 2500
one meter long scintillator strips have a Gd-loaded reflective cover. The DANSS
detector is placed under an industrial 3.1~ reactor of the
Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant 350~km NW from Moscow. The distance to the core is
varied on-line from 10.7~m to 12.7~m. The reactor building provides about 50~m
water-equivalent shielding against the cosmic background. DANSS detects almost
5000 per day at the closest position with the cosmic
background less than 3. The inverse beta decay process is used to detect
. Sterile neutrinos are searched for assuming the model
(3 active and 1 sterile ). The exclusion area in the plane is obtained using a ratio of positron energy
spectra collected at different distances. Therefore results do not depend on
the shape and normalization of the reactor spectrum, as well
as on the detector efficiency. Results are based on 966 thousand antineutrino
events collected at 3 distances from the reactor core. The excluded area covers
a wide range of the sterile neutrino parameters up to
in the most sensitive region.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, version accepted for publicatio
Measurement of the analyzing power in pp elastic scattering in the peak CNI region at RHIC
We report the first measurements of the A_N absolute value and shape in the
-t range from 0.0015 to 0.010GeV/c^2 with a precision better than 0.005 for
each A_N data point using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the
100 GeV RHIC proton beam.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
DANSSino: a pilot version of the DANSS neutrino detector
DANSSino is a reduced pilot version of a solid-state detector of reactor
antineutrinos (to be created within the DANSS project and installed under the
industrial 3 GW(th) reactor of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant -- KNPP).
Numerous tests performed at a distance of 11 m from the reactor core
demonstrate operability of the chosen design and reveal the main sources of the
background. In spite of its small size (20x20x100 ccm), the pilot detector
turned out to be quite sensitive to reactor antineutrinos, detecting about 70
IBD events per day with the signal-to-background ratio about unity.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables. arXiv admin note: substantial text

Spin asymmetries for elastic proton scattering and the spin dependent couplings of the Pomeron
This paper serves as a report on the large amount of analysis done in
conjunction with the polarized proton program at RHIC. This comprises elastic
scattering data of protons on protons in colliding beam or fixed target mode
and proton beams on carbon targets. In addition to providing a model for the
energy dependence of the analyzing power of elastic scattering needed for
proton polarimetry, it also provides some significant information about the
spin dependence of dominant Regge poles. Most notably, the data indicates that
the Pomeron has a significant spin-flip coupling. This allows the exploration
of the double spin flip asymmetry A_{NN} for which some data over a wide energy
range is now available, along with a concrete realization of a proposed Odderon
search.Comment: final reference modife
